Very poor wet traction, very poor cornering ability, very high noise, very poor braking and finally very very expensive( I doubt if these worth half the price they sell!?) I have seen very widely varying reviews on this tires. It looks like it is suitable to certain cars. These tires came with my car P195/65R15. I am a moderate driver. Never accelerate too much, never try hard conerning. These are the tires I feel very unsafe at least on Honda Accord. They slip even in slight rain at stop lights, with moderate(even slow) acceleration, even on slight braking. At 30 MPH when I applied brake near a traffic light after seeing Orange(atleast 40 feet before light), I was in the middle of the junction!. From that time onward I am very careful with these tires. I keep pumping brakes, and apply brakes much ahead. And about turns, forget taking any hard turns. It squeals somuch, you feel it's gonna burst. About noise, these are smooth only very smooth tarmac, any thing other than that, it will drown you in so much noise, you have to increase radio sound to its top. About life of tire, it looks like good. I have 21k miles until now, the tire guy said, based on current wear(still 8/32, new one comes with 9/32, thread wear indicators at 2/32), it going to last over 80k. Fuel economy wise, I could not say anything, reason? On highways I get least 32MPG, city driving not more than 20MPG(despite many techniques). - Quiet ride - Smooth, Comfortable Ride, while also offering very good Performance.(Cornering/handling) - Excellent Highway manners. - Very good Treadwear
Weakness:
- possible susceptibility to flats/punctures - a little "pricey" These tires were 50% more $$ than my last set of tires, yet I received 50% more treadwear for my money ! An Excellent combination of ride comfort, and Performance ! Best treadwear on any tire I've owned, except the Michelin X-1' s !! I did suffer THREE road hazards, so it IS "possible" that they are susceptible to Flats/Punctures . Excellent dry & Wet traction, and 7/10 in snow, although I'd ALWAYS recommend Snow Tires if you live in areas of constant Snow during winter . Costco was excellent on the Road Hazard repairs ...... which made the "cost" of these tires actually cheaper, since Costco doesn't charge for re-balance/mounting . Strength:
Ride, Smoothness, Grip and Performance
Weakness:
Price - Worth every penny. I have to say that I am shocked! I thought that I tire was a tire. I now know difference!! I bought this car used and the previous owner had replaced the standard tires with (PepBoys) Futura 2000 LTE (S rated). Well with the Futura the car was not so good in the wet, not as quite as I had hoped, the ride also was jerky but more that anything I could not get good standing start acceleration as the cars traction control would come on (due to lack of grip), this sometimes happend when I attempted to accelerate for overtaking. In the wet - forgedabouit. The remaining tread was about 7-8/32 not at all worn down. The LTE 2000's blew out on me a couple of days ago so I did some research (mainly on this site) and settled on the Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus - P235/60R16 V rated tires. Pot holes seem smaller, the ride is smoother with almost no road noise. I could not make the tires loose traction and cornering is a dream with predictable understeer. I did not realize what a powerful car this is. Similar Products Used: Futura LTE 2000 |

None Yet My 2002 VW Jetta came with the Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus and I love them. I have driven in horrific down pours, dry roads, bumper to bumper traffic, pretty much everything but snow and they grip the road great. These are by far the best tire I have ever had on one of my vehicles. |

Fairly quiet (over the life of the tire, not just when new), handle well, tread life.
Weakness:
Price - V rated are going for around 170 per. H rated are around 140. This was from America''s Tire. I am unsure as to whether this is the right place for my review. I have energy MXV4 V rated - not the plus. Anyway. They came stock on my 99 Saab 9-5. These tires have been quiet, responsive, provided excellent traction in the dry, rain, and snow, and have lasted 55K miles - actually it''s just the outside edge thats worn - so most likely if I had maintained them properly, I would be getting a yet few more miles out of them. Having owned yoko''s, bridgestone, goodyear, dunlop, and pirelli - I will say that these tires have converted me to michelin. |

Anyone who has been in the tri-state area in the past week or so knows how much rain we''ve received. These tires have stuck like glue through my 35 mile commute around corners, changing lanes, accelerating and braking. These have noticably reduced understeer. An excellent product and worth the investment. |

Surely they''re better made than all the other stuff, right? (think firestone). The following observations seem to bear this out: * My sets have always aged well (we rotate frequently & drive them down to the bars, and they stay balanced, round and relatively un-noisy) * They always feel/behave like the previous set * They always balanced out nicely (you can tell on Benz) * They look good and make you look good (I always plus size them out to the widest allowable width - helps w/ looks AND softer ride - may not be good for braking/wet weather, so be forewarned) * They ride soft and quiet and are semi-stable in turns, moreso if you up the pressure to the max allowable. Touring tires that they are, they''re not for the angst-ridden teen spare with a screaming date and a tricked up jetta/eclipse/etc. - or anyone still acting like that. * We''ve gone over 40000 mi on our sets - they look/feel/sound good even at the end.
Weakness:
* High price is a fact, not a weakness. * These are, I believe, bi-directional tires so, on a cross rotation, I''ve noticed some pulling to one side that subsides as you progress thru your rotation period. It could be addressed, I guess, by unmounting and reversing the tires on cross-rotation as if they were unidirectional. Yes, nomenclature is important - I''m talking about the MXV4+ Energy H rated (225/60/15 benz, 235/60/16 chrysler). They are worth the money for our larger cars - reasons below. I''m purchasing 4th set w/o compunction. Similar Products Used: * Whatever Chryslers came with in 96 - hard riding, noisy, and went out of round * Pirelli - again, didn''t like the way they aged (became noisy, out of round) |

Great rain/snow traction. Corners well. No matter how fast I take a turn I still haven''t been able to get them to slip.
Weakness:
Price I''m not sure what the conflict is over this particular tire. Where I live we get everything: snow, rain, and extreme heat in the summers. This tire has been able to handle it all. True, the price on these Michelins is pretty high but it seems that having tires this well-rounded might entail a price that is a bit higher. Fuel economy, I have read.
Weakness:
Road harshness (0 on a 1-to-10 scale), turn-in & lateral stability, traction in wet & dry. These tires were so bad that I thought something was wrong with my suspension. the road shock transmitted to the driver must be similar to driving on rims with no tires. I installed new shocks and looked for broken components. I did not realize it was the tires until I installed my studded snow tires and the ride improved dramatically. I never reinstalled them but purchased Bridgestone RE730''s which ride much more smoothly. These tires also handle very poorly. The sidewalls are almost as soft as the old original Michelin Z (maybe the first radial). I understand that these improve fuel economy but I would rather drive a lesser car with good tires. Strength:
Great traction in rain, better than expected in snow. Very good lateral grip on turns.
Weakness:
Not a performance tire. Reasonably quiet, but transmit a lot of road feel on sports suspensions. I believe, based on the conflicting reviews here, that this tire suffers from model name confusion. There are several MXV4 models, the Basic MXV4 being a true compromise tire (noisy, average wear, average wet and snow traction, non-performance) These reviews are for the Energy PLUS. Regarding my personal experience, I find these to be exceptional tires. Very good traction in rain and since I live in an area that has rain 175+ days a year, I should know. Beyond that, the roads here are worn out by all the stud tires these idiots put on 6 months out of the year. As a result, even the three lane highways have troughs that fill with water. When you can do 70+ mph during a driving rainstorm on these kind of roads and feel secure, you know it''s a good rain tire! For performance I don''t like them as much as the Toyo Proxes I had previously on another car, but they are exceptional for a semi-performnce tire. As for all the wheel squealers, I really think you are the type who never check their air pressure and haven''t the foggiest idea how to change a tire, much less rate one. I take corners and turns very fast, usually, since I drive a sports car, and have yet to hear any squealing. Even on fast acceleration from a stop, I have yet to hear even a squeak. Maybe that''ll happen in warm weather, but I doubt it will outside of intentionally. I can''t speak about treadwear yet, but in general, those quieter tires are softer and thus don''t wear as long. All tires that are not rated as strictly performance, or snow, etc. are compromises. Similar Products Used: Toyo Proxes, Goodyear Eagles, Firestone Affinity (poor tire...talk about compromises!) |
