The RT/S was original equipment on my '98 Cherokee. I commute long distances that have translated to 90,000 km (55,000 miles) as of this week. While washing it I noticed the tires seemed worn, and this being a high snow area, I replaced the 4 RT/S tires with the same again. Inspecting the old tires I saw that they still had 1/8" tread left and were not yet down to the wear bars. They were on a Jeep with 190hp and very often in four-wheel drive. I have never had tires last that long. Taken to the limit I feel 95,000 km would have been achieved.
Weakness:
None Used on the Jeep Cherokee, These tires offer a good mix of highway and off-road capability, so much so that I went to the dealer and had the same installed again-"if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Similar Products Used: None |

Nice looking tire, handles good on dry roads and loose dirt.
Weakness:
Almost impossible to accelerate on wet roads, back end will slip out without warning. I only have 25,000 miles on them and they seem to get worse wet traction every month. I've also had a hydroplaning incident on the highway that moved the vehichle a good 2 feet to the right before I got control back. One more thing, they don't work as good in the snow as my other tires have. I would only recommend them to people who live in a desert, because they don't like the rain or snow. Oh well what do you expect from OEM tires anyway :)? Similar Products Used: BF Goodrich A/T, General Grabber A/T, Bridgestone Dueler M/T. In my own on and off road experience all these tires were superior to the Goodyear RT/S. |

Very nice on-road ride, very good handling. Wet handling is okay, felt confident though.
Weakness:
NO "real" off-road ability. Goodyear's "were a great tire company, buy from us" attitude. Don't go anywhere off-road that you wouldn't with a car! I've never gotten stuck with them, but I'm not an idiot. They are mainly a road tire! Period I would recommend these to replace OEM, or if you have cheap tires. I WAS impressed with their on-road feel, b/c I never liked Goodyear. I would Recommend BR Goodrich all the way for ANY application! Similar Products Used: BF Radial A/T is far more superior! great on-road, okay wet traction, and GREAT off-road! I would have bought BF's but i needed my truck the next day and the Goodyears were discounted! |

Looks good. I like the raised lettering used. Seem to last a long time, over 40K miles.
Weakness:
Had to be careful on wet pavement as they would loose traction. I never felt they were unsafe however. I only used these tires on the road. They were pretty quiet and had good traction in dry weather. I had to be careful, however, when it rained, but I never felt unsafe. I maintained them and they lasted to over 40K miles. When I replaced them I bought Michelin’s instead, what a great tire! I recommend these tires over ANY FIRESTONE tires. Otherwise buy Michelin’s. Similar Products Used: Michelin, great tire and Firestone, never buy Firestone!!! |

Strength:
It is a quiet tire and semi good dry handler. Pretty good in the wet.
Weakness:
Forget about off road use with these tires. I strongly recommend the Wrangler GSA's as the better tire here. These RTS's are just a try to do all OEM tire for new suv's. I got rid of these tires and LOVE the GSA's. They handle better and have a special tread that deals with cornering, dry, wet, and offroad. The tread is aggressive on the inside and more hwy like on the outside. True best of both worlds. They are a wee bit noisier than the rts - but not obtrusive. I do not reccomend the RTS unless you only use your SUV on road or maybe an occasional trip on an old gravel road. Forget mud and sand. I strongly suggest checking out the GSA's. They are great and look great. Similar Products Used: I have used Wrangler AT and MT also. At is decent to very good. The MT is a beast for off road use mainly. |

Good on the highway, very quiet at all speeds, nice aggressive look without giving up car like ride. Seem to be wearing very well they still have little rubber teats @ over 14k miles! They were free! (original equipment tire) ;)
Weakness:
They don't instill much confidence as an off-road tire. They don't seem to want to "self clean" as well as most "all-terrain" tires in mud. Snow traction was probably average at best. It's difficult to rate this tire, simply because you're not sure what it wants to be! As an OEM offing on most sport utes it's acceptable, but on the other hand I probably wouldn't replace mine with another set. I think it tries too hard to be the best of all worlds, but fails to excell in any particular area. I have been off-road with these tires and they performed well on dirt roads, rocky terrain, and stream crossings. They DO NOT seem to work well in mud as they tend to load up too easily. I recently took a 7-hour trip on them and found them to be pleasant on the highway, quiet and stable @ highway speeds.(and above!);) If you're looking for a good all around tire and HAVE to run Goodyears these may be for you(although I would prefer the AT/S) otherwise there are definitely better tires to be had, for less money! Similar Products Used: Hoosier A/T : No comparison...the Hoosier was far superior in almost every area, except maybe road noise. |

Weakness:
no traction in the wet and no sidewall strength How many ways can you say these things are terrible. Maybe acceptable for $40 tires and that is iffy. No traction in the wet, I pulled past the end of driveway at about 2 miles an hour and slid. They got squirrely in the rain a couple of times and I was not pushing or anything. The sidewall shredded a couple of minutes after going over a 6 to 10 inch rock at 10 miles an hour. With 4,000 miles on them I am about to replace all four rather than replace the blown out one. Similar Products Used: Michelin LTX, vastly better and a little cheaper. |

Strength:
Still have usable treadlife after 50,000 miles
Weakness:
noisy, not suitable for any off road driving except smooth dirt roads The RT/S tires have lasted a long time, but after about 30,000 miles they became rather noisy. The factory tires on my truck are P metric tires which don't have the sidewall strength or load capacity of LT tires. They are made for suburban highway commuters. Similar Products Used: Bridgestone duelers, Sears Trailhandler - There are other less expensive tires that perform better |
