They know how to screw you over!!!!!
Weakness:
Customer service skills are lacking. They don't inform you of safe insurance coverage. They are not honest. USAA Sucks!!! If you're ever in an accident, don't say anything without seeking advise from a lawyer. USAA coded an accident of mine "at fault" for an accident I was found "not guilty". I've been trying to resolve this with USAA for over two years and they won't budge. On top of that, my premiums quadrupled from $500 to over $2000 ever six months. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GETTING ANY INSURANCE FROM THEM. Similar Products Used: American Family. Very inexpensive premiums and friendly service. Recommend them over USAA any day. |

Direct writer. You're on your own if you have a dispute. Most people do not know much about what they are buying when they get auto insurance, or any insurance for that matter. There are many legal issues at work with any claim. I am an agent(I am NOT selling anything), and I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. NO ONE COMPANY HAS A LOCK ON HAPPY CLAIMANTS!! Every time you make a claim---you are asking the insurance company to pay you money. THEY WANT TO PAY OUT AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. That is the job of the adjuster. If it was painless, easy, and fast to make claim and get it paid, there would be a lot more claims. They want it difficult to a point. When you buy from a direct company like USAA, there is not an agent involved. Believe it or not, an agent can be a powerful ally in you getting what you want. I have many times intervened on behalf of a client. I represent over 20 companies. Who do you think I want to keep happy---the insurance company or the client??? If you answered "client" you get a gold star. If you are happy, I get to keep selling you your insurance and get paid. And if you think that because you have been with your company for a while that they have "loyalty" to you and that if you have a couple of claims in a short period of time that they stil like you and value your business---THIS IS NONSENSE! As soon as your company thinks that you will cost them money, THEY WILL NON-RENEW YOU. You can bet on it. I know this industry well and this is just reality. My suggestion--find yourself an agent that you feel you can work with and that you feel you can trust, and that also represents several companies. This is important because a company may decide not to do business in your state or area anymore and an agent that has several companies can always find you a competitve rate with a company that wants your business. The agent can also help in getting a claim going or push it along if it is for some reason stalled. There are many gray areas with insurance and you need all the help you can get from someone with experience and insight. Again, I am not selling anything. Please do not email me with any requests for a quote. I am just trying to be helpful. That all being said, I have found that USAA is probably the best of the direct writers (like Geico, nationwide, progressive) and a hell of a lot better than the big three of state farm, allstate and farmers. NONE!!!!
Weakness:
They are greedy vicious criminals. Be very careful of this company I had USAA'S Homeowners insurance for 15 years before my fire. We lost everything thanks to their HMO company that destroys your home instead of fixing it. If you have their homeowners watch out when they go to fix everything. This HMO that they own does not know how to paint a home no less fix it up....but it is cheaper for them to use their own HMO service then for them to do the job right. Be careful of these people, they are very, very, bad. I am still in the lawsuit 7 years later! We had to sell our home for nothing because of the asbestos that they put around our home, and exposed my 4 children, my sister , my husband and myself to levels of asbestos NY city hasn't seen! |

Great Rates - Great Service - No Hold Times - Rapid Response - There employees smile while on the phone
Weakness:
Not all services are available for everyone I do not usualy write reviews, and the norm is if you have great service you may only tell a few friends, but if you have bad service you tell everyone. I understand that some people might have had bad experiances (hey it happens). I have been a USAA Member for over 18 years. I currently have my Car insurance, Homeowners Insurance, My Banking, IRA, and Mortgage all through USAA, They just can not be beat. They have a Great Self Service web site, and awsome phone support. I have never had Isurance through anyone else, so I only know I have great service by hearing others complain about their service. USAA has one call resolutions to claims. A1 Top notch fantastic service. I feel sorry for those who can not get the all the services they provide (Some of there services are available for non military personel) I am a Member, and they treat me like a Member, not like a customer Similar Products Used: Never had to |

USAA CIC Auto Insurance

Weakness:
Impolite, non-responsive, abusive, rude and arrogant. What a terrible company to deal with. Following an auto accident with a hit-and-run driver for which my family member was found to have no fault, we pursued insurance benefits from USAA-CIC. The claims agent was rude, shouting at my daughter and interrupting her and making fun of her comments back to him, and the service was just terrible. Better service than most. Not the cheapest rates As owner of a repair shop, I view USAA as a company that is fairer than most. The stories from people with bad auto claims experience are usually the result of their ignorance of how to fight any insurance company, or just beleiving that their car is more valuable than every other one just like it. Remember, there will always be a negotiation before a settlement. Every insurance co emloyee settles things for a living. They are ususally better at it than their clients. Be suspicious and demanding of the insurance company as well as the repair shop, car dealer, tow company, car rental company, etc. Maybe it isn't just the insurance company. If an insurer is that bad, then the vendor would stop doing business with them. Similar Products Used: GEICO, progressive |

Poor people skills. Waited 10 days for me to call them, never even notified me by mail. Claims agent never in, when calling her voice mail the hello today is was 4 days old. check your voice mail once in awhile. I wish there was a zero rating I could give them but none is available. This company is a joke !!!!! I have been hit by one of their insured, here it is 10 days later and the repair shop has even to hear anything from them. Not once have they called me, wrote me, etc or contacted me in any way shape or form. After finally calling them, the claims agent assigned to my to me was expectedly unavailable, and I end up speaking to someone who knows nothing. I was also informed all contact with them would more than likely be done via phone. Since the shop where they took my car has said my car is a total loss, I was informed I would have to accept what the offer as a fair market value. Also I had major surgery 5 weeks prior to their moron insured running a stop sign and having a 50mph collision with him. As I spoke with their agent I informed him of this (I had back fusion w/ a bone graft) and that i was treated in the emergency room, as was my wife who was my passenger. I a calm manner he tells me to get a lawyer. I informed him I don't intend to sue them or their insured, but feel my wife and I should get something for pain and suffering. I had to take Peracet and Flexoril for 3 days after this accident, and the wife was prescribed Napercin for her swelling of her arm and pain. Well they treat this as a joke, say get a lawyer, well if thats how you dummies feel (USAA) I guess you leave me no choice. This company is a joke, and I feel for anyone that has to deal with a claim from them. Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
making insureds feel like they should never have made a claim. I was a devoted USAA employee for over 8 years when I decided to leave the company in 1996. I had insurance with USAA all that time and continued the full-coverage insurance on my car even after leaving and being switched down to their "CIC" companies. (Since I was no longer an employee, I did not qualify for regular USAA insurance). In June 1996, I had my first car accident. A woman hit me from the side after running a red light and she fled the scene. I was injured and my car had (thankfully) minor damage. However, since there was no one to go after, the claim had to be placed under Uninsured Motorist coverage. Well, that was the beginning of a never-ending saga. I ended up having to retain an attorney who wimped out on me because of USAA's powerful corporate attornies only offering $1000.00 for the claim after I received over $5000.00 in medical treatment and expenses. THE CLAIM IS STILL OPEN! Working at USAA I heard more than once that they treat their employees unfairly with handling claims. Well, try being an ex-employee with a UM claim.... They never cancelled me (I guess because I still had an open claim?)but I chose to cancel myself due to the fact that they wouldn't fairly settle the one and only claim I had with them. I have friends and family members that have worked there and have quit since I did. The other reviewers that mentioned that USAA is on a decline are all very correct in their statements. USAA is firing and "laying off" great and dedicated employees just to avoid giving them raises and so they can hire people at lower rates of pay. There is a high turnover rate and has been for a few years now. I really used to believe in this company, but with the claims experience I had, as well as, knowing how the employees are treated now, I would never recommend this insurance to anyone. Strength:
Cheaper then most.
Weakness:
Very poor claim service. USAA always refused to get my deductible back. I had to go to small claims court myself and obtain settlements. USAA always low balled the repairs and substituted non-standard parts. Windshields were reinstalled using glues which did not meet NHTSA standards and reduced the strenght of the car for rollovers. USAA is just like dealing with any other insurance company. No longer treats a member like a member vs just a another number. I had been a member of USAA since 1968. When I turned 50 and 55 USAA began to cancel my umbrella, home owners, auto, and renters insurance. At first they stated that they were cancelling becuase I still had three children at home and the children were unacceptable risks. As each of the kids moved away to college, USAA insured each of the children. Later they stated that I was now too high of a "risk". I moved my insurance to Country Companies. Country Companies insured me under their premier company which is reserved for the best "risks". Similar Products Used: Country Countries. One of my children was hit by another car. Country Countries had the car repaired within 3 days and completely recovered the deductible with 10 days. |

Great rates.
Weakness:
Will drop you at the slightest opportunity, even if the reason for a claim is valid and beyond your control. Go elsewhere for a more reliable company. I have used USAA inusrance for over 17 years, both auto and homeowners. I live in Houston and last year there was a big storm that caused the wind to blow rain into the house. USAA was very nice and fixed the problems, I had to submit 2 claims, at the advice of the adjuster, to fix the problem. I am now moving to Virginia and called today to transfer my insurance to my new home and was told that due to the claims I filed that they would not, under any circumstances, insure my home in Virginia. My adjuster called and explained the whole thing was done under his advice, to no avail. It seems if you acutally have a need to use USAA, and then move, they will not continue to insure you. I was told that I am too high a risk as a result of 2 claims from a storm that I could not control. If they will do this to a 17 year customer with no prior claims, if you are young and just starting out with them, you are really screwed. I am writing to the Texas and Virginia state insurance boards and to the Better Business Bureau. Similar Products Used: None. |
