Strength:

nothing

Weakness:

they still treat employees like slaves, Bob Davis is horrible should resign and they treat customers like numbers.

I worked for USAA for almost 5 years before I was let go. Accused of doing something I did not do. Many people blame the employees for how claims are handled however keep in mind that the employees are treated like slaves. always going to work in fear. Also getting a claim paid when you are an employee is difficult. You have to fight and call and complain (at the risk of losing your job) then they will pay. My father had an accident and he was also insured with USAA the police officer even stated that witness came forward to say that the other driver turned to hit my father. Since my father had the stop sign even though he was already on the other side USAA ruled it his fault. They stated they could not use the police report due to conflict of interest since my father worked for the Police Department. Our rates went from $672 to $1452 due to that accident. They did not even bother to question that the other driver had been in 6 accidents in 1 1/2 years.

Strength:

Availability, professional service, dividend checks---what other insurance company does that!

I'm really surprised at the negative reviews I have read. I have been with USAA since 1987, insuring both my vehicles and my house. I have never had any claims with them until last year. Returning from a trip, I found my 1999 Silverado with a scratch down the entire left side. It happened in the airport parking lot with no witnesses. A call to the police got me a police report. A call the next morning had me set up to have it painted. When I arrived at the body shop, I signed the paperwork and was then taken to the car rental place. The paperwork was waiting for me, I signed and left. Took less than two hours, including my drive time to the body shop. Three days later I had my truck back with a great paint job. All I paid was my deductible. I have bought vehicles over the weekend and have gotten great service from USAA. Always curteous, always professional, and always friendly. $1750 a year for two new vehicles with a rebate check at the end of the year. Same thing with the house. A rash of thefts of yard equipment hit us. USAA wanted proof of what was stolen, but who keeps the receipt for a riding lawnmower? No problem. A statement from the next door neighbor that we indeed have the stuff we claimed and we received our check. For my money, you can't beat USAA.

Strength:

Unknown.

Weakness:

I believe there are some strong unethical practices. I would never invest my money in this company.

We are not a USAA member but we are being sued by them. We had a very minor read-end collision with a member 23 months ago at which time insurance info was exchanged. A police report was filed. No damage was noted on the USAA insured vehicle from this accident, but there was significant damage from prior accidents as was noted in the police report. Our insurance agency never heard from the USAA customer. Now 23 months later they send us a letter telling us after a thorough investigation they've determined we owe them $1,059 to cover the damages. They return none of our phone calls. Two weeks later they turn it over to a collection agency who is going all guns after the money. We've had to hire an attorney to clean this up. From our perspective USAA is an incredibly incompetent company who has used bullying tactics to get money for a client who has filed a false claim. Their "thorough investigation" didn't even involve getting a police report or contacting us. Our great citizens in the military deserve a better and more ethical operation that USAA.

Strength:

None, unless you count incompetance as a strength.

Weakness:

1. Customer Service. 2. Following through on their contractual responsibilies.

I am third generation USAA member. Have insured my automobiles through USAA for 26 years. Every month I paid my premimum on time for those 27 years. No accident, but had a bad blowout on my car that did over $2500 of damage. It was like pulling teeth to get them to act on processing my claim. The damage was such that the vehicle could not be driven and yet it took 3 weeks of repeated phone calls on my part to get them to act. I guarantee had I been three weeks late with my payment, they would of been calling me. At the renewal date immediately following, my rates shot up 25%. I've found another insurer that is hopefully better. Unfortunately, you are ignorant until you have to make a claim with any insurer. Fortunately, I am no longer ignorant of what type of insurer USAA is.

Strength:

Customer service, competitive rates.

Weakness:

Long distance service, no local branches.

I am a 3rd generation USAA member, and have had USAA insurance since I was a teenager. I have them for auto, home, life and I do my banking with them. I have only had to file one auto claim and one homeowners claim in 19 years, and both were handled quickly and without any problems. I have shopped around and have never found another insurance company that can come close to the rates I get with USAA, and I have received a dividend check every year from them, which is unheard of in the insurance community. I recommend them highly.

Strength:

Customer service.

Weakness:

Only military can join

This is not a good place to get information regarding insurance companies. I am in the insuarnce industry and know that USAA is top notch. Claims service is exxceptional. The stories posted here and many others including other ins. co's sound terrible. But not everyone deserves "prefered" rates, although they think its owed to them. So when risky, young drivers bring the whole household down, insureds get upset. I bet they offered to exclude the son prev mentioned and allow parents to keep rates, if not, then they were part of the problem. Insurance is more complicated than most realize. Most importantly, times have changed. It used to be an Officer only co. it is now open to all enlisted. Rates have been modified but are still are the best around.

Strength:

Zero - only fools think USAA is a good company.

Weakness:

The employees at USAA especially Bob Herres.

I agree USAA is a company in decline. Their rates stink as does their pompus 1-800 talk-to-aUSAA Moron. Armed Forces Ins. is smaller and has real customer service agents who really care. Early in 2002 USAA was fined several thousands of dollars for licensing violations. I'm sure the company bosses never said anything to the "membership?". USAA Sucks the big one!

Strength:

Customer service

Weakness:

No face-to-face contact

I think USAA is great. I can't imgine people complaining that a company raises rates after multiple accidents as you have increased your risk. We have never had a problem with USAA and I am a third generation USAA member, my husband is a 2 generation USAA member. We insure our home and cars with USAA, bank with USAA and plan to mortage soon with USAA.
