Strength:

Communication and taking care of actual business.

Weakness:

Might be a few dollars more, but worth the difference in customer service and things actually getting done.

I have had State Farm since I was 16. I am now 29. My dad talked me into getting Farmers insurance, because they were a whoping $30 cheaper. I am having so many problems with Farmers now. I really wish I had State Farm again (home and car) State Farm is VERY fast at getting back to you, and they don't jack you around like the other companies. However, I agree some agents are better than others. Do your homework prior to switching companies. If State Farm is a few dollar higher, they are still worth keeping in my eyes. Oh, about 5 years ago, I totalled my car. They were the best at handling my situation. Not only that, they cut me a good check in less than 4 days. VERY good company

Strength:

Never have strenghts.

Weakness:

Worse of the Worse!

I would not recommend anyone to State Farms Insurance. They have the worse service and especially with their staff. Please do shop around with other Insurance and you will defenitely get a lower prices with every good service.

Strength:

???

Weakness:

Rude staff, slow payment of claims, no one will call you back, no one takes responsibility, they will pay you next to nothing for your car and they can get away with it somehow.

My car was stolen in October of 2006. I am still waiting for my check from State Farm as of Feb 7th, 2007. The check I am getting is about $1000 less than it will take to buy the same car. But it doesn't really matter, because I still don't have the check. I have been insured with state farm for 17 years and it used to be a good company. Now, though, they will not budge. They do not return your phone calls, they say they will call you and they never do. I am starting to feel like they are the legal mafia or something. They turn total loss claims over to their office in Colorado, and once that is done, your agent is worthless. They won't even call the main office for you. Run away!!!

Terrible service! Our brand new car was involved in an accident that was not our fault. We went through hell with the "Service First" body shops we had to use. Our brand new car was in the body shops for 4 months and we were given subcompact rentals. We had to sue the insurance company because the driver of the other car had no insurance. State Farm made the whole experience a nightmare. They left our car in a mess and after arguing with the body shops and State Farm for 4 months we just got tired and gave up fighting. As soon as we settle we are cancelling our State Farm account. I recommend that anyone with a new car NOT use State Farm as their insurance. You will regret it.

Strength:

Good customer service, had no trouble talking to reps.

Weakness:

Use of used parts.

I have had state farm insurance for over 15 years. I have has great service most of this time. The only trouble I have had was when my agent retired and they gave me a new agent, she was not so good. So I switched to an agent I knew, and have had no problems.

I have had just a few claims, and the only problem was with one where they did force me to use a used car door on my one year old vehicle. But it has a lifetime warrantee on all repairs, so if it starts to rust or anything I will have it replaced.

I was recently involved in an auto accident. Someone who is insured by State Farm Insurance backed into the side of my car as I was driving through a parking lot. They hit my passenger door, rear quarter panel, and bumper.

I received an estimate from State Farm. State Farm uses “recycled” parts to repair vehicles. I’ll go into this later, but a recycled part comes from a vehicle that has already been in an accident. State Farm only guarantees “recycled” parts for a year. Pretty tough to swallow when your car is like new and you are going to get something back that could have been damaged previously and is not guaranteed for very long.

In any event, when State Farm did the original inspection, they missed a few repairs. This is standard I guess. Wait a minute…it is standard for State Farm to miss repairs that they should be paying for? That’s what I was told over the phone anyway. The additional repairs forced me to drive the rental car longer than I expected.

Oh, and did I tell you about my rental car? State Farm would not pay for something comparable to what I have. I tried to convince them this was not fair but after a half hour of bad customer service, they would not help me. So I got:

• A car that smells like smoke and has cigarette burns
• No power locks
• No power windows
• Paper floor mats that interfere with the gas and brake pedal

Did I mention I sometimes have clients in my car? It is part of my job. I’m sure they appreciated the amenities I mentioned above. But I guess I can’t have something comparable to my damaged car, even though the accident was not my fault.

And guess what I just found out? One of my recycled parts came in damaged! Luckily, the body shop is honest, has great customer service, and told me about it. Otherwise I would have received a damaged part that is only guaranteed for a year by State Farm. The body shop sent it back, but further delays were caused, forcing me to drive my lovely rental even longer.

Now, to top it all off, State Farm has decided that they won’t pay for my rental car anymore. I have to pay for it. State Farm will not compromise. They feel the repairs have taken too long. Never mind that State Farm missed repairs and required the body shop to order “recycled” parts that were damaged and had to be reordered. Oh, and weekends, Christmas and New Year’s count towards the days that I’ve had my rental. Most insurance companies and body shops don’t work on holidays, but it is a penalty when it comes to how long you have a rental car!

The bottom line is State Farm has treated me like crap. They are unfair and unreasonable. DO NOT purchase State Farm insurance. Good luck if you are involved in an accident with someone who has State Farm. You will need it.

Strength:

Great agent.
Large discounts.
Quick and helpful claims department.

Weakness:

Prices may be a little higher than one could get elsewhere, but some may find it worth it.

I've had State Farm now for two years. I'm under age 25, and have two cars insured, renter's insurance, and life insurance through State Farm. I also live with my girlfriend, who is a few years younger than me.

I pay a pretty high premium to State Farm, but I'd have to say it's worth it. My agent really *is* willing to go to bat for me. I've had to switch agents twice now, giving me a total of three agents. My first agent was mediocre, but my last two agents have been spectacular. With my current agent, when I call him or his staff up at their office, I become their #1 priority. They tell me about every discount, tell me when and why not to report that my girlfriend lives with me, make sure that my policies are and stay 100% valid, etc. When I call, they know me by my first name, where I work, what policies I have, all off the top of their head. This is huge, because I live in a city of 500,000 people.

I know a lot of others reviewing State Farm have given them horrible reviews, but I have to say if you find a good agent, things are a lot different.

Recently, two expensive cameras were stolen out of my house. I filed a police report and called State Farm the next day, which was a day when my local office was closed, so I talked to a call center rep. The rep. was great, he filed my claim, and I got a call back within 24 hours. From top to bottom, my claim was complete and a check in my hand within three business days. On top of that, when I called my local office about a buying a new car, the girl actually mentioned my cameras and said she was so sorry, and that she had personally called up the claims office and expedited my claim.

I've moved twice with State Farm, and had my renter's insurance moved and evaluated twice, and each time it's been a breeze.

For the life insurance, I had to take a health exam and answer a few questions. The whole thing was setup from inception to signing in 30 minutes! The health exam came later, but I was even insured before the health exam. The health exam was easy, a lady came to my house, took my blood pressure, a urine sample, and a blood sample, weighed me, and that was it. That might come across as a lot to some people, but I really didn't mind it.

I've never been in an auto accident, so I can't report about how they handle that, but I really can say that they're an excellent insurance company for me.

I would recommend State Farm, or at least my particular agent. I get a student discount, a good driving discount, and an extra discount for each policy I have with them, totaling 5+ discounts. The service is great, and working with them is quite enjoyable.

State Farm has horrible service. My mother got in an accident when her tire blew on the freeway. Some guy hit her and sued. State Farm took 2 1/2 months to go out and take a picture of the guys claims. The guy was claiming $65k for car and equipment damage for his business. However State Farm didn't even take any pictures of the damaged equipment and actually started harrassing us. The claim representative was very rude and sarcastic. Don't get State Farm. It's expensive and un-reliable.
