Model Reviewed: Toyota Corolla basic coverage

Strength:

its insurance and i cant drive w/o it my sister turned when pulling out of the garage in my moms car and busted the front light/fender/bumper and State farm was pretty good when my parents had to file the claim.

Weakness:

This crap ive heard about them refusing coverage on modified cars especially lowered cars. My corolla is lowered but hopefully this wont be a problem for me since i only have liability. They are WAY to expensive considering my coverage, driving record, and discounts, not to mention im on my families plan instead of my own which further reduces cost

Well i am 17, almost 18 been driving for about 1 1/2 years w/ no tickets or accidents. I also have the good student discount and defensive driving discount, yet i still pay a little over $900 every 6 months for liability coverage only

Strength:

Good customer service, from what I hear.

Weakness:

A total rip off -- they are WAY out of the ball park in pricing. I've been overpaying for 22 years. (Who's the fool?)

STATE FARM ROBS THE POCKET BOOK! I have been with them for 22 years. I supposedly have the "highest" customer rating, which supposedly equates to the lowest price rating. Hah! They are charging me $2,400.00 for 2 vehicles per year. Excellent driving records. I finally started looking around and just saved myself $1,000.00 per year! Every single company I compared them with saved me a minimum of $400.00 per year. So much for commitment. They just lost a 22 year customer! I have my house insurance with them, too! Bye Bye! You want customer service. You can have it. It costs $1,000.00 per year. Problem is -- I haven't needed their service in many, many years.

Strength:

Reasonable rates Agents seem friendly Many agents/offices in the area Great to deal with until you have a claim

Weakness:

They smile when they take your money for premiums, but be prepared for a fight when you you have a claim.

I had been with SF for 15 yrs or so. I was involved in an accident where someone ran into my rear and pushed me into the car in front of me. They were also insured with SF. SF insisted on repairing using "aftermarket" repair parts for my grill and bumper. My vehicle had all original parts on it and the inferior quality was unacceptable. After many phone calls I got them to agree to use an original grill, but they still refused on the bumper. I ended up having to sue to get them to pay. I believe that they will do the minimum that is absolutely required by law to settle a claim. Laws in other states apparently require them to use original parts, but not here. Somewhere along they way they changed their auto policy so that it says they can use aftermarket parts. This had no bearing in my case, though, because it was not my fault and so the other partie's policy was paying for my damage. They thought they could get away with patching my vehicle back together with inferior parts, and I'm sure they do get away with this all the time because people don't know any better. I have a feeling that this practice may not be unique to SF, but hope that I never get the opportunity to find out. SF no longer gets my premiums because of this experience.

Strength:

Diligent service and fair recompense

Weakness:

Haven't found one nationwide. These are good people.

My family has uses Allstate Insurance for home, auto, and umbrella coverage. They have been helpful and responsive dealing with our needs over the years. When I needed towing twice in one month for different problems, there was never any question of who would pay when I told the rollback operator, State Farm. Repaired windshield chips in both our vehicles with just a phone call. Don't fall for bait and switch tactics.

Good customer service.

Weakness:

Rates are higher than others.

I have been with State Farm over 10 yrs. I have had no claims and or speeding tickets, this also is true with my wife. I got a atta boy letter claiming a 15% reduction on one of my vehicles. Then the renewal came in with higher premiums. I called them and explained that I found insurance cheeper with same coverage. I was told that I would always come back. Well this week my premium expires. I went with the cheeper company with the same coverage. Today State Farm calls wanting me to come in and talk to them about my coverage. I have given them a chance with my phone call 4 months ago, guess they did'nt think I would do it. Well 350.00 a year savings is alot to me. I can now pay 6 months at a time instead of 3 months with State Farm.

I had just turned 17 and was driving home from school in my parents 6 month old Ford Explorer when i slid on a wet road and rolled 4 or 5 times down the hill. I was very lucky and walked from the accident, but the explorer was totalled. State Farm, whom we had been with for over 30 years, said our 30,000 six month old Ford Explorer was now worth 19,000. I know cars depriciate but that much in 6 months?! State Farm wants us to pay for another year on a car we no longer have....

Agents and assistants have been great.

Weakness:

Claims deplartment has been slow, disagreeable, obtuse and reluctant to pay a claim despite the fact that this is our first claim in over 30 years with State Farm and it is less than $1000.00!

We have been with State Farm for 30 years and as long as we are paying premiums everything is OK. Recently we had a small claim and they have been terrible to deal with.

Strength:

They are wonderful for minor damages or theft (if the car itself hasn't been stolen.)

Weakness:

If you total your car and the bank has the lien on it, you will not get the loan payoff. I can assure you of this.

I was under State Farm for 11 years and paid approximately $10,000 in premiums. They are fantastic for dings, nicks, etc... They are quick and courteous and will get the job done. But, if you total your car they will obtain the cars worth through the National Auto Dealers Association. In other words, the wholesale price. And you....the person that pays State Farm premiums every month, will be stuck with making up the difference. So if you are covered under State Farm I hope that your car is either paid off or it is worth the same amount or more than auto dealers would pay for it. Some food for thought. (Personal experience).
