Weakness:

See above.

When I got into an accident and totaled my car that I'd had for 2 months, the claims people at State Farm treated me like a panhandler. The accident wasn't my fault (the person who caused it--also a State Farm client--was issued a ticket, and it was pretty cut and dried) and my driving record is spotless. I paid outrageous premiums for my insurance, but when I actually had to use it, they behaved as if I had crashed my car on purpose, then spent my free time dreaming up ways to scam them out of money. Not one claims adjustor was anything close to nice or helpful--the first one who called me after the accident spent five minutes reciting a list of things that they would not do for me. When they finally called me with the settlement, which was considerably lower than the blue book value on the car, I was told that I was not entitled to the full value of the car, this is what they offer and that was all I was going to get. The claims adjustors all behaved as if I were trying to scam them out of money, when all I ever wanted was the value of my car, which I only drove for two months. I am out close to a thousand dollars thanks to State Farm. By far, the worst part of the entire experience was dealing with these people--I would rather have that (very scary) accident every day for the next month than experience the frustration of dealing with them again.

Strength:

Thousands of agents nationwide - most if not all of who have never talked with company executives evidently.

Weakness:

They don't get it, and certainly don't give a hoot how much their customers pay for premiums.

Premiums now boardering on $3000.00 per year for our three 9 year old vehicles. All of which are driven much less than 6000k/year! We continue to be penilized, do to the fact that we have two sons that are under the age of 21 who have always carried a minimum of a B average and above in school students with no moving violations. Thanks StateFarm - Like a good neighbor? Sure.

AGENT DOES NOT TAKE CARE OF EACH INSURER THE SAME. SOME GET MORE ATTENTION THAN OTHERS.

WE HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE ADDED TO OUR POLICY. THE AGENT ADDED A BINDER. HE DID NOT FOLLOW UP WITH ADDING IT TO OUR POLICY. OUR DAUGHTER GOT INTO A WRECK AND WE THOUGHT IT HAD BEEN ADDED ON BUT IT HAD NOT. I FEEL AS IF OUR AGENT SHOULD HAVE CONTACTED US IF OUR BINDER WAS OUT. I WONDER WHAT IS THE AGENTS JOB? HE COULD NOT EVEN FINDER THE COPY OF THE BINDER HE SENT US.

Strength:

State Farm agent. He is great, I can talk to him about all of their insurance and financial services, knowing that he will give me the best advice possible.

Weakness:

They sometimes are a bit too busy, yet always try hard to make me happy.

I have found State Farm to be the best value in car, home and life insurance. They are not the cheapest, have never been. If you look at the service you get versus the premiums you pay, you are gettting a great deal. All of these people screaming about State Farm, are just discruntled due to nit picky stuff. They are great. I will say this, my agent makes all of the difference.

Strength:

Low rates for good drivers Nice agents] Professional claims staff Little perks for customers, such as dividend checks, free products (Atlases, books when you get married, pregnant etc).

Weakness:

In my experience, they will pay claims that they may not owe because unscrupulous people file complaints with insurance divisions--the increase in paid claims will also increase the premiums honest customers pay.

I have been w/ State Farm for many years. I have had only one at-fault accident and one that wasn't my fault, as well as one homeowner's claim that wasn't my fault. My rates are very fair, my agent is very professional, and the claims staff is very professional. On our homeowner's claim, they pursued the contractor who damaged our home for two years, and in the end, although State Farm only recovered 50% of what they paid in damages to us, they reimbursed us 100% of our deductible. Although we have one at-fault accident, they still give us an accident-free discount for being w/ the company for as long as we have. I work in insurance and can tell you that you must do your own investigation into your policies--read your policies carefully so you know your duties and rights as an insured. The policy is a contract that has to be abided by--you wouldn't believe, also, how many dollars are spent by insurance companies having to defend against unscrupulous attorneys and "injured" people. Know the law, know the policy, educate yourself, and be honest if you are ever in an accident or injured and you will be treated fairly. This has been my experience at each insurance company I've worked for, and I've worked for three, including State Farm many years ago.

Low offerings on totalled vehicles High rates on auto and home insurance Disrespectful Claims department Unwilling to Listen to reason Unwilling to work with the client Unwilling to help settle claims for the client

Perfect State Farm Insurance carrier for over 15 years...never a lapse in coverage...never a claim....never an accident...perfect driving record...etc..etc..etc... Husband was hit by another State Farm insured party in a head on collision. Totalled our 1994 Geo Tracker. This vehicle had 60K miles on it, 4x4, hard top, premium wheels, tinted windows, interior was like new, only mark on the exterior was golf ball ding in the drivers side behind the drivers window. They offered $4,136.00 for the vehicle. I can find them on the web all day for between $4,995.00 and $8,900.00. I have provided them with over 15 listings for comparable vehicles in this range. They provided me with 4 which they considered comparable...all of which had much higher mileage (8K-40K more than mine), no hard top, no premium wheels, no tinted windows...and to top it off all were 181 to 381 miles from my home town. These "comparable" vehicles they offered me ranged from $3,995.00-$4,150.00. The only thing comparable was the price they had offered...it certainly was not the vehicles. We have been fighting with them for going on over two months now and we seem to be at a stalemate. Originally I had told them I would settle for $5,500.00, as if I were to sell the vehicle that is what I would ask. They scoffed at me and proceeded to have four of their claims representatives tell me that it was a "fair" offer that they had made. Like they know my vehicle and I don't. I would have never sold my vehicle for the amount they offered...just as I cannot find a vehicle to replace mine for the amount they have offered. I feel like this is extortion...they have told me they are buying my vehicle for $4,136.00 and that I basically have no choice but to sell it for that amount. Wonder how they would like me to offer $5,000.00 for one of their brand new cars and then tell them ...well you have to sell it to me for that because the is what I am paying now give me the keys. It is just wrong. It is disgraceful to treat such a perfect client for over 15 years, as they have done. I have all of my insurance through State Farm...add me to the list of people who will no longer be with State Farm after this claim is settled. At this point, I feel like anyone who carries State Farm Insurance ought to have to exhibit a skull and crossbones sticker on their vehicle to warn people to stay as far away from them as possible! To top it off everyone whom my husband and I have spoken with, whom have ever had any dealings with State Farm, have confirmed similar atrocities with their claims. Fortunately I am a stay at home mother so we can afford to be without a second vehicle while the claim is settled, however there are plenty of families out there who depend on their vehicles to make it to work every day. It's been over two months since we have had a second vehicle...so basically those who could not have afforded to be without the second vehicle would have had to settle the claim with them for the lower amount. I have thought about that so much during this time and how often State Farm must get away with this. I hope this note can help someone else before this happens to them.

State Farm customer for 9 years and getting shafted. I have my house, car, auto loan and other policies with State Farm Insurance. They are ripping me off. No accidents in 9 years. No claims in 9 years. Rates go up and up. I was told by my agent "I need to understand how insurance works" they need to understand/learn how to not talk down to people. Only leaves me with one choice. See YA

Strength:

~Quick and easy resolution of claims.

Weakness:

~Seemingly overpriced. ~Quality of service seems directly related to who your agent is.

My husband and I have had State Farm for about six years. We liked that we could bundle insurance and that State Farm was nationwide. Never suspected that we were overpaying. When we recently bought our first house, I priced them for homeowners and they came in high. Now that we've moved, I'm shopping around for auto and are finding that State Farm's premiums are fairly high in comparison. They have been excellent with our minor claims -- when one of our windows was broken, without our mentioning it, they cut us a check compensating us for a rental car that we opted NOT to rent. We've had good service with State Farm, but I think we'll try another company simply because the premiums are so different. I'm hoping that this isn't a "you get what you pay for" situation. If so, we may be back.
