This is a start to fileing a claim w/ mercury ins. To date I have been accused of fraud, threatened to loose my good driver discount and forced to take my car to their facility as luck would have it the closest body shop to my home is a authorized mercury repair shop prior to filing the claim I had an estamate.total 5300.00.then when I had no choice but to use my insurance I was sent to the same facility for an estamate this time they came up with 3800.00 So I have a feeling they are crooks but I can not verify this untill my ford dealer gets involved I will keep posting untill the black and white gets settled and if they continue to conduct theirselves in this type of manner we may have a class action lawsuit pending so if you are having the same type of problem let me know.. My lawyer would love to include your case

Weakness:

Can't talk to anyone on the phone until you hold a few hours first. Can't fax anything because they never recieve it.

Mercury went from cheapest to the most expensive. It started out with $1200 for 6 mos. Then after 4 months I find out I don't have the type of coverage that is required because I'm leasing my car. Now my lease can be defaulted. That raises my price by $1000. Then they send me a bill for $650 because they need to switch me over to Mercury Casualty for an accident which I never had. They are "looking into it." But in the mean time if I don't pay they will drop me. So I am currently looking for another company. It went from $1200 to $2200 plus they want me to pay $650 for something that never happend.

Strength:

Their ablity to delay, switch adjusters, lose documents, require multiple recorded statemetns, confuse, lie to and frustrate ligitmate claiments. Their preference to litigate every case, putting their insured and their credit records at fiscal and financial risk, and do any kind of evil to keep their rates lower than their competitors.

Weakness:

They lie, they cheat, they take advantage of thier customers "good will" and they prey on the weakness of claimants. And by God's grace they will eventually be run out of business for it!

Luckily, I do not have Mercury Insurance as the protector of my financial interests. But, I was rear-ended by someone who is unfortunate enough to have them as their carrier. My problems with Mercury have brought us to litigation. Litigation in which I have prevailed. And I hope that Mr. Sarouddi, who rear-ended me will follow suit (pun intended). THREE TIMES, I had to give them my tape-recorded version of the accident! THREE TIMES, I had to re-establish my claim with a new adjuster! They KEEP CHANGING the adjuster to frustrate you and make you give up. I have a severe pre-existing condition with my back, that required me (at my doctors insistance) to attend physical therapy. We sent Merucury all the documentation they asked for. Much information we had to re-send because they lost it. These are simply evil, dishonest, irresponsible DELAYING TACTICS! They tried to delay (all the while promising to help, make good, and pay our medical) until the statue of limitations ran out for filing a law-suit in small claims court. Once we got an attorney, they finally sent us a letter telling us what their position was. Basically; "It was a low-impact accident and we're not paying for any medical expenses". If you really believe you (Mercury) are correct in denying a claim, then SAY SO, and DEFEND YOUR POSITION !!! Trying to run-out the statute-of-limitations is a dishonest, time-wasting, breech of good faith. And speaking of "good faith". Mercury has an obligation to protect Mr. Sarouddi and his fiscal reputation. In fact, Mr Sarouddi has paid Mercury Ins. to do exactly that. That's what automobile insurance is for. But now Mr. Sarouddi has a judgement (I won in small-claims court) against him that will show on his credit record for the next SEVEN YEARS !!!! And why? Because Mercury plays a legal game that many insurance compaies play to increase their profits. Only they often do it at the expense of the very people who pay them for protection! There is a similar concept taught in business schools. It's called "The Rational to Pollute", and it goes something like this: If the profit you make by being a polluter is more than they fine you have to pay when you are caught polluting, then it makes financil sense to pollute the environment and pay the fine. You make more money that way. Mercury is a LEGAL POLLUTER!

Progressive wasw $580, Mercury was $499. so 15 percent cheaper.

Weakness:

I am scared of filing a claim. Hopefully, they will not raise my rate if I do.

Thse guys are a hassle! First they promise a good rate, then they find something in your record to try to triple it! I made a big stink, and then they lowered it again. Unfriendly letters always threatening to charge you more. Cannot recoomend.

Very good company. I caused an accident where I ran a red light and hit another car in the front end. Both of our front ends were damaged. They took care of the other driver - she was happy her car was fixed quickly to her liking. I had about $1200 in damage, the deductible was $1,000. So they offered to pay for the damage of course, but also said they would not raise my rates and would keep me as a good client if I did not file the claim (thus paying the additional $200 out of pocket). Since I caused an accident with a BMW, and would not be penalized, I thought that was a good deal and have remained with Mercury ever since. No problems.

Strength:

Low Rates. Less paper work!

Weakness:

Took almost four months to close a claim.

I've had them for five years. I've only had to call them once concerning an accident, when I was side swiped. They took care of it. It did take a while before the other party finally gave in and admitted fault and I recieved my deduction back.

Since I go through an insurance broker, I'm always asking about other insurances. So far Mercury has the lowest rates and the agents have only good things to say about them. Plus being with them for five years has it's advantages, like low rates!

I would recommend going through a broker first.

Low rates

Weakness:

Cannot reach the claims adjuster .. are they EVER in the office? Also, when your premium is due, they will bombard you with notices.

Would recommend if you don't plan on submitting any claims to them. I was at a complete stop and was rear-ended, causing damage to the bumper. 3 months later, my claim was finally approved, even with a police report of the accident proving the other driver was at fault. During the 3 months, I found myself always talking to the claim adjuster's voicemail. When the adjuster did call back it was always a few days later and at hours not convenient for me. Thus, we played 'phone tag' for 3 months. I only spoke to this person 'live' once the entire time.

Strength:

Cheapest I could find.

Weakness:

Awkward customer communication - if your bill is close to due they send you threatening letters. I found some of their letters to be unnecessarily non-customer friendly.

Mercury is rough around the edges but if what you're looking for is the cheapest insurance around and you don't mind mediocre customer communication they are a good choice. You get what you pay for!

Strength:

Cheap.

Weakness:

Poor communication with their customers.

I've been using this insurance company for close to 3 years. I've had trouble with the line of communication. I've had to request names to add and delete from the account at one time. They would get the request right with the next bill, yet future bills would show up with the old account information. I guess they lost it. I had to repeat the whole process over again. In fact, there was a short period when they cut my insurance off for both of my cars because I requested one car to be removed from the policy. When I didn't receive a bill for a while I called to question it. I was told that I was driving without insurance for several months since they didn't understand my request. I don't know about you, but I get kind of concerned when my insurance company "loses" some of my updated account info or just cancels my policy without clear confirmation.

I am not very pleased with their billing cycles. I'm never really sure when my next bill will come - and I was told that I can't just be billed monthly. Bottom line, I'll probably be changing providers soon. Cheap insurance isn't necessarily worth the hassle.
