Strength:

Low cost and great service and discounts for age/non-smoking

Weakness:

None that I know of.

I enrolled with GEICO early in 2003 after coming back from overseas and not being able to get insurance with State Farm after being with them for 20 years. 3 months after going with GEICO, my car was stolen. Fortunately it was found 2 days later with surprisingly little damage except for the bumper. GEICO arranged for an adjuster to look at my car at noon near my work site. The adjuster made a thorough examination and actually found more damage that I hadn't seen before before. He gave me a check on the spot (minus the deductible) and also a list of qualified body shops they had experience with to take it to for repair. I was pretty impressed with their overall service. I haven't had any other accidents since then and have stayed with them.

Strength:

Overall good customer service, with occasional illogical people (maybe instructrd to behave so). Decent rates, but beware! They are sneaky!

Weakness:

Rising rates unexpectedly, some delays in processing, using some dobtful cheap body shops instead of genuine parts.

I was a GEICO customer forever.... more than 10 years. Never had any trouble with them, that is, until lately.
I recieved my most recent statement and they raised my premiums $245 per year out of a blue. About a year ago my brand new car was rear ended by guy in a truck. he has an insurance, the car was fixed, not to my 100% satisfaction, but fixed.... Other than that - no tickets, no nothing, clean as a whistle driving record. Anyway, I call Geico and ask them about the increase. Well, the lady said, you had an accident. But it was not my fault....! But, she said, statistically it proves that your vehicle is more "exposed" to the accidents.... It took me a few minutes to try to dive to the bottom of that thought.... Couldn't do it, I ran out of breath... Well, I said, I will then switch to another company. But remember, she said - they can increase your premiums... Isn't that what you just did, I said. And, she added - we have a unique forgiveness policy for you because you are such a loyal customer. What!!?? Lady, you just used an accident which was not my fault against me and you telling me about the forgiveness policy? Ok, maybe you are not there all together in the brain department, so I got a quote from another insurance company which amounts to MUCH less premium for MORE coverage and called Geico again.... Sorry, we cannot match the offer... but... we will welcome you with an open arms if you decide to come back...of course you will...and will swiftly raise my premiums again.
Bottom line: Noticed how many reviews are for Geico, compared to other companies? Why? Because Geico has a lot of customers? Correct...But also because Geico has a lot of UNSATISFIED customers. Even if we take half of that as ligid and true unsatisfaction as opposed to customer's fault - it's still a lot. All insurance companies are somewhat similar. They play games with you and you play games with them.... They want your business, but keep rising your premius - they won't get your business any longer period. Again, I was quite happy with them for a long time, but time change, I guess

Terrible Service

I was a very happy Geico member for years and really loved it. Then, without warning, our insurance went up by about $600 when we had not had any accidents or tickets. When I called to find out why, the only answer they could give me was that we moved so it went up. However, it had never been this high and we lived in many high insurance cities. Finally the answer given was that because we were no longer new customers, our insurance was going up because we no longer qualify for a discount any longer. (But we had this insurance 4 years. At what point are we no longer new customers?) So, we switched to Liberty Mutual and have lived happily ever after. We went online and tried to apply for insurance through Geico as "new" customers, and it was $600 lower (like it was before the mysterious rate hike). How can they think it is right to raise your rates like that when you have been a loyal customer! We paid our insurance a year at a time and had it four years. It is ridiculous to treat new clients better than ones that have been with you and been trustworthy. Horrible Service!

Bad service!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had my car insurance with Geico for 1 year aldready. I was expecting a reduction in my policy after one year since I had no accident. The company rises the price without any reason. I called in and talked to many people on the phone. They just explained that was a change in price from the company. NO SENSE!!! Im so disappointed. Im thinking about changing to another company and I will!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Value and customer service.

Weakness:

None that I've experienced.

I am shocked at all of the negative reviews on here of Geico. Perhaps I have just been lucky, but I have always received wonderful service from them in the four years I have been a customer. Granted, I have never had an accident, but I have had to deal with them several times for other types of claims, and they have always been great. For instance, I have had two different nicks in my windshield repaired, a service they provide for free. They even come to your house or workplace to do it, which I thought was fabulous.

But Geico has really saved me in the past two days. Last night I broke down on the side of the road, but since I have their roadside assistance coverage, they came out and towed me at no cost. Today I found out that the repair (to a car that just barely came off the factory warranty) is going to cost $612. But thanks to the Mechanical Breakdown Coverage that I carry on my Geico policy, I only have to pay a $250 deductible. Geico called the shop for me to verify the estimate, and they pay the balance directly to the shop -- I don't even have to submit any paperwork. The whole process took maybe half an hour.

I have been extremely pleased with Geico from the beginning. Not only are they extremely affordable, but their customer service people are always very polite (almost too polite!) and they get answers for you quickly. I have recommended them to friends and family, and will continue to do so.

Strength:

Fair Pricing

Weakness:

None that aren't symptom of the overall illness of the auto insurance industry

My boyfriend's car was hit by a female college student that saw a squirrel and in her attempt not to hit the squirrel hit my boyfriend's car instead. She was insured with geico.

The claims process went pretty smoothly, though they didn't let us keep the rental car as long as some insurance companies we have no major complaints.

The car was appraised fairly, and the price was appropriate for other used cars in the area. They even provided a list of the cars they used to price the money they gave us.

Unfortunately we still had a loan on the car so we didn't get much back. It would be nice if the cost of the car was calculated as a cost to replace the car (including paying off loans) as opposed to just the value of the car.

Strength:

Cheap monthly rate. Cheap for a REASON.

Weakness:

Undervalued my car by $10k, been a month and still no check!

I had a car accident on 4/28/07 in Beverly Hills California. A Honda Civic pulled in front of me as I drove down the street and I t-boned it in my Porsche Boxster. Even though it was obviously his fault (the police report even said so) he denied responsibility so his insurance company (USAA) told me I would either have to go through my insurance (Geico) or wait the 1-2 months for the investigation to complete. Of course I chose the latter.

I bought the car 5 months ago for $34,000 and added a $7,000 bodykit and had Geico insure my aftermarket items (they charged me for it). The Geico adjuster (Jason Wood) offered me $31,000. When I challenged the adjuster's offer, he told me that the bodykit only offered a $850 increase in the resell value. He simply could not understand that I didn't insure my car for resell, but REPLACEMENT in case of an accident, which I thought was the purpose of car insurance in the first place. I ended up having to call his supervisor (Mario), which was no help, so I called his supervisor (Manuel) too. After explaining my situation over and over he finally realized what I was getting at and offered to pay for the bodykit reimbursement. He said he would pay the full value of the kit because it was only 5 months old. Jason Wood (adjuster) came back with another value, which again needed to be corrected because he failed to notice I had litronic (HID) headlights. Luckily for me it only took 24 hours for them to correct the amount I was owed, $39k.

I was told I needed to contact Geico in Georgia to receive my check. They told me that since I was in a rush and I owned the Boxster I could simply go to my adjuster and exchange my car's title for the check. I called Jason and he said he didn't have checks. Geico Georgia told me that I could overnight my title to them and have a check overnighted back. I paid the $20 and overnighted my title to Geico Georgia. I called Geico to make sure they were sending me my check, and the girl told me that they were sending me a check for $31,000! I notified her that she was incorrect, so she said she'd call my adjuster but since he didn't answer they'd have to get back to me. I called them back 30 minutes later and they told me that they got the correct amount verified but that they RAN OUT OF CHECKS and that I would have to wait until Monday (it's Thursday). I told her that that was ridiculous and asked for her supervisor. The woman came back online after 5 minutes and told me that they were sending me out a check today, and that they would call me back soon with a tracking number. I waited an hour then called them back. She said they didn't have checks and that someone was looking for some. I asked her what time it was in Georgia and she said 5pm. Then I asked her how they were going to overnight me as check at 5pm, and she said "I guess it won't be."

The people at Geico behave as though they are paying out the claims out of their own pockets. They are irrational and they lie. This experience has become a nightmare. I have had to be on the phone with Geico pretty much every day for a month, fighting with them. Having airbags deploy in my face and bruising up my arms was not nearly as bad as dealing with Geico. I would highly suggest that you STAY AWAY from Geico. Especially if you are located in the Los Angeles area. The local representatives here are HORRIBLE and you will never get them on the phone, they will call you back EVENTUALLY. I cannot stress enough the pain you may endure if you have an accident and have to deal with Geico, whether it's your insurance or that of the person who crashes into you.

Strength:

Absolutely None. They should be investigated.

Weakness:

Dishonesty, Lack of follow up, Incompetent, Full of excuses and not willing to pay for their mistakes.
They spend millions of $ on stupid TV commercials but are unwilling to pay people who their clients run into.
They are ripe for a class action Law Suit.

One of Geico's customers slammed into me and nearly took off my left arm and front driver's door of my 3 week old car when I was legally parked at a service station.
Geico's claim dept dept contacted me and admitted it was their client's fault. That's when the fun began.
They fought me over the rental car reimbursement even after they agreed to pay for it. After several hours on the phone talking to various supervisors, I convinced them to pay for a car with air conditioning and cruise control ($34 vs. $25). Geico also told me to take my (undrivable) car to another body shop for estimates. Later they admitted this was a mistake since the body shop I was in was indeed authorized. They refuse to pay me anything for my time and my employee's time they wasted.
They are clearly dishonest and incompetent. Everyone I spoke with there was more interested in CYA than in offering service.

Strength:

Easy to pay online. (can't thingk of anything else at this time)

Weakness:

Customer service. Eagerness to find their customers at fault and pay out so that they can increase rates.

I've been with Geico for close to 10 years (probably more out of laziness to change). I am about to change, even if I have to pay more. There customer service, and eagerness to pay out regadless of any investigation or details provided should be considered criminal. Recently a second incident occurred with my wife driving, the other driver admitted guilt, the damage was on the passenger side of the car - someone decided they wanted to change lanes at the last minute and get in to the left turn only lane, well, they should have waited for our car to have passed (or at least looked to the left and they would have seen us). Anyway, Geico was just as eager as could be to want a claim to pay so that they could increase our rates again. Speaking to them was frustrating, they would say they can't do anything, so we called the other insurance company, and got them to agree to an appraiser's investigation... at least that. Still nothing good came of it, but I was appaled at their service. This was the secong incident. The first one, 2 years prior, they decided, against state law, that the suicide lane is in fact, a lane that can be used for passing and one can establish themselves in it for the sake of an accident.
My wife, in stopped traffic, decided to get in to the suicide lane to turn in to the parking lot accross the street, someone else decided they would come flying up the suicide lane, passing a bunch of cars so that he could get to the left turn only lane further ahead. Geico said they "established themselves in their lane" and my wife was at fault. Regardless of telling them that the suicide lane is in fact, not a lane for passing (and so not a lane that one can "establish oneself" they didn't care... I'm tired of their eagerness to pay out and to increase our rates.
