"I had very bad experience with Geico, my car insurance. I pay so muh for this insurance but they didn't want to recognize my claim for my 1st accident with another driver who was completely wrong (parked in non authorize double lane, with no light and who entered in my car) and gave me 50% of the responsibility while this other driver was at Geico too... Only 50% of the repair is covered by Geico now. I'm really furious that they couldn't defend my claim objectively after months of exchange and interviews with them. I will change for another insurance asap. I suggest you to never use Geico, they are not serious, only a money business."

To anyone on this board-- I know a journalist working on a piece on buying auto insurance online for a national magazine. If anyone has a good Geico story you'd share with her, contact her here-- acm0327@gmail.com to find out more.

Strength:

None that I can see.

Weakness:

Failure to pay claims.

I would like to tell you about an accident involving my mother-in-law and a rural mail carrier. On March 25, 2008, my mother-in-law saw the mail carrier stop at her mailbox and pull away from her box. She proceeds to cross the road to get her mail. The mail carrier pulled up the road about 150 to 200 ft and realized that he had missed some mail for my mother-in-law's box or the box beside her mail box. He BACKED down the road and did not see my mother-in-law until he had already hit her with the car and heard her hollow. I understand that it is a policy of the Post Office that a carrier not back up. She has four cracked ribs, a torn rotator cuff on her right shoulder and a crack in her left leg just below the tibial plateau. Surgery was required on her left leg - a plate with eleven (11) screws. We have moved her from the hospital to a healthcare facility for therapy. The mail carrier is insured through GEICO Insurance. They are refusing to pay because the carrier was using his car for business. In the meantime, my mother-in-law is in the healthcare facility for rehab and no money to pay for her care. She is 83 years of age and only has Medicare. Medicare will pay for the first 20 days of rehab and who is going to pay for the continued time she is going to require therapy? The doctor has said she cannot have weight on the leg for 8 to 12 weeks. We have been told that my mother-in- law will have to pay. She has a little over $5,000 in a savings account in the bank. The co-pay at the health care facility is $128.00 per day after the first 20 days. The little savings she has will be gone in a month. How is this fair to her when she did not ask to be hit by the mail carrier? The mail carrier received a citation for unsafe movement. She will be affected by this accident for the rest of her life and may not be able to live independent again. How is she supposed to pay for the care that she is going to require for at least 8 to 12 weeks? Do you really want to consider an insurance company that will not pay when an elderly lady is ran down by a person insured by GEICO Insurance?

Strength:

Good pricing for the package and lying about their road side service

Weakness:

Limited coverage. Going back to AAA who stands behind any vehicle their customers drive and would not leave us stranded!

We switched from AAA to Geico over a year ago. Great rates. Then we had to use their road side service. They denied us coverage while stranded on the side of the road because the vehicle we were in was not the insured. Would have paid the little extra...AAA insures the person not the vehicle..switched all our insurances to a more reliable company

Weakness:

reps don't know enough about insurance

Though we have been happy with our Allstate policy and agent, we wanted to check the rates that were out there. As a basis of comparison, we got quotes for 100/300 bodily injury liability. The quote came back quite a bit lower than Allstate. I called to verify how an umbrella policy for additional liability would begin to cover us and I was told that it was 300,000. That part is true. When I asked if there would be any gaps in coverage because of the 100/300 BI, I was told there was not a gap. That is not true. I called back a second time and was very specific and asked if there were damages between the 100,000 per person amount and the 300,000 per occurrence amount, who would pay and the rep told me I was covered. Wrong again. It was only after I sent an email to customer service that I got the correct answer. To be adequately covered with the umbrella the BI limits would have to be 300/300 so there would be no gap. This obviously changes the initial quote I received. The reps are either lying or they don't know what they are talking about. We'll be staying with Allstate.

Strength:

Low rates; good customer service; good product offerings

Weakness:

None that I've found...in 12 years as a customer.

I've been insured by GEICO for the past 12 years and I find them to be the best car insurance provider in the marketplace. I've had 1 major and 3 minor claims and NUMEROUS roadside assistance claims. My premiums have NEVER gone up unless I changed my coverages or vehicles. And I've found that no other insurer can touch GEICO's rates. There is no other insurance company for me.

Strength:

Great at taking your money.

Weakness:

Unfriendly (not rude, just unfriendly) the moment you need something from them. Don't seem to care in the slightest about giving prompt, efficient service.

I've been a Geico customer for over 10 years. In all that time, I've never had an accident, until 2 days ago. I guess this is the only way to really find out what kind of company they are, and I can tell you, they have failed miserably.

They assigned a claims adjustor to me who isn't even available this week and probably won't have time for me until the middle of next week. The claims department doesn't seem to care or think that waiting a week for an adjustor is anything unusual. They also refuse to assign a different adjustor. Maybe Geico only has one adjustor in the LA region?!?

The worst part is, I'm paying a rental out of my own pocket, while waiting for these bozos to do their job. I suspect that if I had rental coverage on my policy, the adjustor would have had time for me the day of the accident.

Weakness:

Bad Business
Poor Customer Support
Lead you to believe that your getting a good deal

I got a quote on the internet from Geico that said one price, then when I called in they ran my DL and said I had seatbelt tickets from years ago. SO they said my rate would be higher. I am with State Farm now, alot better company than Geico. They have no knowledge of any tickets and I am a mutual customer. Meaning I get the best rates from them. I think Geico should let people be aware that when you call in that you will pay more money. This company is the worst. I am glad now to see what I am dealing with. Bad Business

Strength:

Good at giving lame excuses for premium increase

Weakness:

Bad customer service, worst at customer retention

I was reading the other reviews on thsi site and just like many others, i have had auto insurance with Geico for more than 3 years. My insurance rates went up every time I renewed it and they always have an explanation for it, like the revious rate was calculated as a discount for new customers, I do not have enough driving history, blah blah blah. I tried to tell them that I have more driving history now than before, and do not understand how my rates can go up this year when comapred to the previous. This time, when I renewed my insurance, my premium went up by 60%. And their answer? Because I changed my address. I called again after a few days and another person told me that it was because I had another driver in my insurance (I have had hte additional driver in my insurance for more than 5 months, but they relaized it only now I guess). I'm sure if I call again, they will have a different answer for me.

I would just say that Geico is very good at LYING, treating existing customers badly and on the wole, making things difficult for you when they should not be.

Weakness:

no customer service; made it difficult for me to even cancel my policy once i had shopped around and found every other major company would beat my current policy by at least $176 Dollars...

i have been a geico customer for nearly 10 years, purchasing Geico at the same time i bought my new volvo, in cash. i have a clean driving record, no accidents or tickets. my insurance rate increased until it reached nearly $400...geico in the last years failed to recognize that i probably did not need comprehensive and collision since the value of my vehicle after 10 years didn't warrent the level of coverage they were charging.
if you like being fleeced, go with Geico.
