Excellent customer service Fast Claims Paid me more than I expected for totalled vehicle

Weakness:

Cost (ironic considerring how they repeatedly say "15 minutes could save you money..."

I came to this site initially to review State Farm and Allstate. However, after reading some of the reviews, I thought I'd read comments about Geico for a comparison (of the types of reviews here). First of all, if you take a look at the overall ratings for all the insurance companies, you'll notice that they range from 1.33 to 3.24. On a scale of 1-5, no one rates above 3.24? Obviously, people who have complaints are much more likely to take the time to write about them than are people who like their service. To that end, I want to say that Geico was the best insurance I ever had (past tense, but I'll come back to that). In the three plus years I had Geico, I never had ANY problems. Their customer service was always the best. I had claims for someone breaking into my car, for having backed into a fire hydrant, several times I locked myself out of my and got lock-out service, and I totalled my '93 Subaru. The lockout service was not only convenient but was always reasonably quick (my ex-wife was blind, so there was no one else who could quickly bring me a key.) And the customer service was good - even calling me back to be sure that I had been taken care of. When I backed into the fire hydrant (ironically while shopping for another car), my claim was handled very quickly. An adjuster looked at it, got it to a shop, and I was back on the road in no time. Most importantly, when I totalled my Subaru, Geico had a check in my hand for the value of the car in no time at all. And their value was black book (whatever that is) - MORE than Kelly Blue Book, and more than I expected. The only reason I left Geico was that I found it too expensive. Because of my accident history and poor credit, the cost was going to be over $1400/ 6months for my '99 Honda CR-V. I hated to change because I had always had such great service. But that was simply more than I could afford. I just cross my fingers that my new auto insurance company is half as good as Geico was about handling a claim if the need ever arises.

Unethical operation. Do not fall for their scam. If you ABSOLUTELY MUST use Geico, read and re-read the terms of your policy carefully before signing anything.

Geico auto insurance is horrible. We picked up a Geico policy due to their "low" rates, but ended up eating it in the end when we needed it. When, our 1991 Volvo was broken into (shattered window, stolen stereo, aprox. $700 in CDs stolen, damaged console), we contacted Geico, only to find that the $50 comprehensive deductable that we selected was "not available on a car that old." Although the online quote was given with this coverage selected, the Geico agent who finalized the policy in person changed the deductable to. . .not the lowest amount available, but in fact the highest, most ridiculous comprhensive deductable immaginable. . .$500!!!!! So in addition to loosing the $700 in CDs (which is not covered because it is not attached to the car), we basically have to pay for the entire cost of the repairs. THANKS FOR NOTHING GEICO! I would strongly recomend against anyone insuring their vehicle with Geico. (P.S.- We dropped Geico immediately following this incident and got better coverage at a lower rate with Nationwide.)

Quick to get you to a representative when you have an accident.

I have Geico but am here because I am shopping around for another company. A little while back I was cut off, ran into the car that cut me off and immediately called Geico like I was suppose to. Unfortunately I found quickly that there is a need to revise the “if you rear end someone it is your fault no matter what” ideology and further that being an honest driver and following what the insurance company asks you to do as a policy holder in the case of an accident , may not be in your best interest. Almost immediately following the accident the service representative took my call and I explained what happened. She said that it is my fault unless I have a witness to confirm my story. The person in the car with me wasn’t good enough and everyone else had driven away by this time. She then asked if I wanted to file a claim, I said no and that I would call back when things were a bit calmer. The other driver did not file a claim, nor was I given a citation from the attending officer. Upon calling Geico back to explore any options for my damaged vehicle I found that the service representative went ahead and filed the claim for me and filed it as my fault. No citation, no claim from another driver and nothing I was able to do to reverse it. Further after more than 10 phone calls, no one would tell me how this would be effecting my policy long term. The simple fact of the matter is that the government requires us to carry auto insurance. This gives the insurance companies a green light to concentrate more on revenue, less on customer service and “expecting” to run into a problem is due to this fact and this fact alone. Unfortunately, we need them to drive out cars and they need our money to win the advertising war. However, leaving a discontent customer is of little concern when tens of thousands are signing up right behind us. When I choose to pay for a service, which insurance is, I shouldn’t have to choose between which I think will give me the least number of problems, especially if I need to use the service and HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR IT ALL ALONG. How about at the end of the year if I don’t have accidents or violations, I get my money back? Or even 90% of it since they need to keep the Gecko on TV. Better yet, imagine having to choose a grocery store based upon the least amount of rotten produce and then having to pay $100 a month just to walk in the front door. In my opinion, the odor of Geicko’s produce has reached the parking lot and if I were you I would find another store as the clerks are obviously not going to warn you or help you with your bags.

In response to the adjuster, clearly you have been tainted by your occupation. As far as people not actually being hurt from accidents, my current wish is for you to be rearended or in a more severe accident, and have to suffer the way millions do not only physically, but mentally from the insurance sess pool that will cause you more pain than the accident itself. Here's hoping you have to go through months of therapy, visual problems, injections, adjustments, non stop headaches that feel like your head is going to blow off, tons of RX's that toxify your body, and the degenerative arthritis that follows for the rest of your life. Then let's not forget the emotional anguish that can last for years while adjusters play games, deny claims, low ball estimates, and try to stick you in a vehicle that is never road worthy again, nor worth a fraction of what it was prior to an accident. Whinning....get real. Apparently you don't know much about physics. Do the math. Size and weight of moving vehicles vs. size and weigh of the human body. It doesn't take a smart person to realize that even if there are no major problems at the scene of an accident or weeks later, eventually a person will pay physically for an accident regardless of the severity. The mind is like a parachute.....it only works when it is open.

I've never had any problems with Geico. I had Allstate before Geico. Geico cut my insurance rates by more than HALF. I have a Chevy S-10, my wife has a Cadillac, and I also have a Pontiac Trans Am. I insure all three with two drivers. Both of us are 25 years old with no tickets or anything. I pay $480 every 6 months for all of this. Can't beat it. I've never had to file a claim that was my fault, but I have been hit twice in the past few years. Both times it wasn't my fault, but Geico was no hassle at all with paying the money for damages. My insurance rates didn't go up one cent either. Can't complain here!

From what I've read, too much. I'm not sticking around to find out!

Whew! SO glad I checked out this website before calling Geico! There were 80 reviews about them, and after reading the first 40, got tired of trying to find more than 3 that WEREN'T negative! Most often used description of them: "They suck"! I think the most deterring review for me was the one from a Geico claims adjuster. This guy (or gal) needs either a vacation or some Valium. His user name is nysom79. Please read his review. What a whiny, bitter juvenile! He blames the customer for EVERYTHING! SafeAuto ought to thank him, because that is who I am going with.

Hiring people like the claims adjuster below.

I was seriously considering switching to Geico, until I read the review below from the Great Claims Adjuster. His attitude stinks (it's always the customer's fault)and is all too typical of customer service.

They have an investagator sitting in an office looking at pictures and deceding your faith without talking to witnesses. They do not represent their policy holders

Last week my daughter was driving on the left lane of a 3 lane road. Another driver crossed into the center median of the northbound and southbound lanes and struck my daughter with her right front bumper damaging her her left driverside door all the way to the rear courter panel. Upon the officer arriving at the location he ingaged in conversation with the other driver. he gave me instructions to fill out a drivers information exchange report and informed me that the other driver actually drove into my daughters car. The Lakeland Geico agent informed me that she talked with the other drivers Insurance adjuster and they both deceided that both drivers were at fault. Geico would not take a police officers word as to how the accident occured even tough the driver admitted wrong to the police officer. Its seems to me that Geico just in a big hurry to close out this case ( Case Cleareance). On top of that she did not garantee that my insurance rates would become more than $485.00 a month

Weakness:

we all have our weaknesses but the good outweighs the bad when it comes to insurance

Having worked in the insurance industry for many years and reading the reviews of so many consumers, I felt the need to say a few things. It doesn't matter what insurance company you deal with- you're going to have a problem sooner or later. You're not always going to hear what you want to hear and you're not always going to get what you want. Period. When you purchase an insurance policy you're purchasing a promise that your company is going to take care of you. Now you can purchase this promise from Allstate, State Farm, Farmers, Geico or whomever you choose. The choice is yours. No one tells you who to choose as your insurance carrier. As a licensed claims adjuster for Geico I can honestly say I pay my claims and I handle them in line with the Claims Practices Act setforth by my state. I could handle a claim from start to finish and a customer would still get mad and try to blame the insurance company because they had an accident and we aren't paying fast enough. What people don't seem to realize is that their insurance policy actually does protect them! Wow, imagine that! Before one cent is paid out in a claim an investigation is completed. Sometimes, when everyone cooperates, the claim can be settled quickly. But when one person wants to be difficult it can cause the entire claims process to drag on unnecessarily for months or even years!!! And those are exactly the claims you hear about all the time. The people who tell you the stories of what the big bad insurance company did to them leave one major detail out- THEY AREN'T COOPERATING!! That is the holdup in so many claims. Imagine the possiblities if everyone just cooperated. And how can I forget to mention the attorneys. Boy do people think getting an attorney helps. Honestly? It hurts your case most of the time. Once an attorney is retained I can no longer speak to the party who hired the attorney. A lot of good that does for you and me both when your lawyer doesn't return your calls or mine. That just drags out the process a little bit longer. What about all that money the lawyer promises you in your initial consultation? Did he mention he gets a minimum of 40% of the settlement? You could have had all that extra money to yourself but you'd rather throw it away on some attorney who really doesn't have your best interest in mind. And injury claims...if you're going to file an injury claim against in insurance company- don't lie. We will find out. If you got rear ended at a slow speed its highly unlikely that you really hurt your back so severly that you have to be on bedrest for 2 months while you recover. There's a medical term for those people who complain about every little ache and pain- HYPOCONDRIAC. Go take some tylenol and stop whining! Last but not least, all these people on here who have threatened to sue insurance companies- Geico, in particular- are misled. Working in the claims department handling lawsuits and claims all the time I know for a fact that these cases never see the light of day let alone the inside of a courtroom. I get threatened daily but people saying they are going to sue me. My response? Go ahead. Waste your money!!
