Geico Direct Insurance Auto Insurance

Geico Direct Insurance Auto Insurance

DESCRIPTION

Your auto insurance is really a package of seven primary coverages, which together make up a standard auto policy. Each of these coverages has its own separate premium. There also are other add-on coverages such as GEICO Multi-Risk Physical Damage Insurance and Emergency Road Service protection available for additional premium costs.

Strength:

They catchy, TV commercials. But, "Let the Buyer Beware".

Weakness:

Poor customer service - non professional behavior.

I wish to caution anyone who is considering Geico for ANY of their insurance needs. My particular case involves auto coverage with GEICO Direct. I was in a hit and run accident 5 months ago. I am filing a claim with GEICO against my Uninsured/Underinsured coverage and Medical Payments options on my policy. With over $5000 of medical bills, GEICO is either discounting or refusing to pay for medicine or physical therapy I received resulting from being forced headon into a bridge at 60 mph. I carry far beyond the state minimums, have home and umbrella coverage with them, and have paid my premiums without delay. I would not recommend them from this point forward, and will be dropping them after my suit against them.

Strength:

They have some great commercials!

Weakness:

Customer service, prices ,

I originally got auto liability only insurance thru Geico, because living in the city, I used public transportation. I finally buy a car, and they insured me, the cheapest I could get at that time, since I hadn't driven in about 4 years.....no accidents or tickets, but my rates never go lower in 3 years. They also refused to sell me renters insurance for my home. I am with them for almost 3 years, I call state farm, and guess what??? They give me full coverage with $250 deductible, emergency road service, and car rental. I also get renters insurance for my home $75000 coverage and I get a rate that is $24.42 more than what I am paying to Geico every month! What really made me mad, was when I call to cancel coverage with Geico, they put me on hold for 10 minutes, and then offer to give me full coverage insurance with them and a $500 deductible for $90 a month. I told them NO I am going to stay with State Farm. My prices would be better if my credit were better!

Weakness:

Dealing with a toll free number...with a menu. We found it very difficult to reach the right person.

First, may I say that the Geico commercials are not true. My husband and I have perfect driving records, and they NEVER saved us a dime!! The only way we saved on our auto insurance was to go to another auto insurance dealer...where we DID save a total of $363.00 a year. Also, when we had to have our windshield replaced, Geico tried to make us go to a cheaper glass dealer, where we would have to pay a deductable. They did NOT make that easy for us at all!! Also, my husband is a vet and is working as a civilian through the air force. We thought they were suppose to work with the military. We found out that wasn't true for us.

Now we are with Safeco. No toll-free numbers with menus. They also saved us $363.00 a year in comparison to Geico.

Weakness:

The company tries to ruin your life (asking me to pay $650/month when I am a teacher making $2000/month would literally mean that I would have to drive uninsured...no way I would be able to afford that)

I can't begin to tell you how much I hate Geico. First of all they charged me $350 for 2 cars even though I have a perfect driving record. Second, After I used the roadside assistance 3 times (once was my wife), I got a VERY NASTY letter telling me not to use it anymore as it cost Geico too much. If I continued to use it, it threatened to drop my roadside assistance coverage in a VERY nasty tone. Then my wife had her car broken into and I called Geico simply to ask how much they would pay if I claimed it. Turned out it was not worth it so I told them to forget I ever called and that I would pay for it myself. I have one speeding ticket and had one accident over the last year...here's the incredible part of the story. I got a letter saying that they were dropping my coverage. Why? Because of the ticket, the accident and the theft of my wifes car WHICH I NEVER CLAIMED!!! So I called and they told me that I could keep my coverage but it would cost...ready for this?...SIX HUNDRED AND FIFTY PER MONTH!!!!! That's for one accident, one ticket, and a break-in which I never claimed. I found another provider would offered me insurance for $270/month which is less than I paid Geico when I had a perfect driving record. I HATE GEICO!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Seem to make Warren Buffett richer.

Weakness:

No care for customers. Poor communications.

I chose to insure my car with geico because I travel A LOT and they touted their 'paperless options' for insurance which means I would not have to worry about my mail catching up to me. Not so! I sent in all the paperwork and automatic billing information and was told everything was all set. Then a few months later I noticed that I was no longer being billed and I called. They had canceled my insurance because they sent me a letter requesting the drivers license to ensure the last owner of the vehicle (which obviously I dont need insured on my vehicle) and requesting my old california drivers license number (which I dont have as I've only had ONE license number in california). When they didnt get a response they canceled the policy. They had my email address and my phone number on file but nobody bothered to call or email me about my policy being in danger of cancelation. I had to call myself to find out I had been driving on a canceled policy.

Weakness:

Medical after accendent.. DON'T GET HURT IN AN ACCIDENT... they only add to your aggravation of being in the accident

They really don't seem to care about their clients who have been in accidents. Have to jump through hoops to prove you really needed an MRI when it was ordered after an accident.

Strength:

Great customer service, able to negotiate premimums (better make sure your driving record is clean!)

Weakness:

We were rear ended by someone in our 85 vette. They didn't want to replace the exhaust that was bent. Adjusters (or at least this one) sucked! Get a good body shop that will send suppliments!

Geico has always treated us with respect. Auto/home for over 14 years. We are middle aged and have clean driving records. Have 3 vehicles insurred with them at present. 15% higher than Progressive but by what I've seen, we don't want to change.

When I bought a car and took an auto insurance quote from Geico on May 21, I was quoted a premium of $806 (including instalments charges) for 6 months liabilty policy payable in 5 instalments. 1.$201.00(Which I paid on 05/21 on phone by my credit card) 2.$151.00 Payable on June 22 3.$151.00 Payable on July 22 4.$152.00 Payable on Aug 22 5.$151.30 Payable on Sept 22 I was also told that I will receive some forms in mail which I need to sign and send back to them in the regular pre-paid mail envelope that they sent me. As soon as I received those forms I called up Geico's customer service toll free number to get help in signing the required forms. I did what i was told by the customer rep and sent those forms on 05/30/03. However to my shock, I received another mail from Geico showing my total amont for 6 months policy as $1009.01. I called up the customer rep again whol told me that they never received those forms signed by me and thus they increased the price due to a policy change to full tort from the original limited tort. I never wanted anything more than Penn State's required policy, so as directed by the customer rep, I again signed those forms and sent the same to them in the envelope provided to me after affixing proper postage. I was told that as soon as I do this, I would get a new bill showing my next instalment to be paid. However I never received anything until my due date and this way I missed the due date of payment. Soon after that, I received another mail from Geico on 06/26, saying that they would cancel my policy in 15 days time unless I pay the amt due, the amt that was more than what was originally quoted. This way I feel threatened at the hands of Geico. I again called Geico and spoke to a customer rep who was kind enough and told that I need to send those forms again. He sent me a form on 06/26 by FAX to a number that I gave to Geico. I faxed the signed form back to Geico to a number provided in the cover letter on 06/30 as that was the day I actually got the FAX documents in my hand. I called up the customer service rep again on 07/01 to check the status of my account and to pay the bill. This time she told me that since I already paid $201, the remaining instalments were $84 (payable Immediately, which I did the same time over the phone by using my Credit Card. And 3 more instalments of $170. So the total premium this time came down to $795 for 6 months. However today when I went online on Geico's website to see when my next due is, I was again shocked to see that my total premium is $1016.30 for 6 months. I called the customer rep yet again and was told that the form that I sent by FAX was not the right one and ironically i signed and faxed the same form that I received from them by FAX. She told me that She will send me yet another form by FAX which I need to sign and send them again. I feel so cheated by Geico. Everytime the most I am able to do is call the customer rep, but keep getting different quotes and the max they do is assure me that they will send some forms which i need to sign up and send them back. They have been causing so much in-convenience of sending forms (which I did thrice so far) and calling them again and again (5 times so far). I cant even move to a different insurance co. at this time considering the amount that I paid so far to Geico ($285). They also made me miss a due date of payment for no fault of mine. All this trouble had caused me to look up for a complaint forum and thus I found this thru a website search. Please think twice before taking a policy with Geico. Dont get harrassed at the hands of Geico.

Before you go nuts over your insurance company snafus, there is something you shoud know: Insurance companies are in the business of collecting premiums and civil litigation. Big time litigation, not fender benders and sprained necks. No way. You don't even want to know. Just be grateful that you are not one of the involved parties in one of those horror stories. Imagine developing a vivid understanding of hell and eternity. Y'all drive careful now, 'ya he-ah?

Strength:

Great service; fast; open 24 hours for claims; always got check prompty; great website; online account management; excellent rates

I have been with Geico for 8 years and have great experiences. They quoted my husband and I $987 for 6 months which I think is good. No other company beat that. The only bad thing is when my car was broken into they had me take it to Geico for an estimate. They guy said it would cost $350 for a stereo and to fix the dash. Bull ! I called him and he said that I could take it to the dealership and fax him the paperwork. The stereo was $300 but at the dealership to fix the dash was $500... I faxed the stuff in and got the money. But the Geico "expert estimaters" are not experts - they work for Geico so will tell you a very cheap price. Go somewhere else for estimates if you can. All other accidents or incidents have been handled without a problem.
