I had this insurance for one year, happy that I never had to make a claim as I can only imagine what a disaster that would have been. After my first year with Farmers, my insurance was hiked up by $93.50 even though my car was one year older, I hadn't made a single claim, and had not received so much as a parking ticket. I shopped around for new insurance, easily found companies that offered better insurance (added uninsured motorist protection and brought my deductible down from $1,250 to $500) for about $100 less than what I had been paying, meaning a savings of $200 from my new six-month rate with Farmers. So I switched. Problem is that my agent at Farmers has so far not allowed me to cancel my policy with them. Avoid Bridget L. Kemahli of Tukwila, WA and everyone at her office at all costs. Also, do not set up automatic payments where Farmers deducts money from your checking account. Getting this shut off has proven to be a nightmare. After a string of phone calls and faxes, stretching back nearly two months, they continue to charge me for this insurance that I canceled. Worst of all, Bridget L. Kemahli and everyone at her office tries to sell me more insurance each time I call. After yet again making it clear that I want to cancel my policy, each call ends with them assuring me that they will refund my money, yet two months later the withdrawals continue. I am now pursuing this with my bank, disputing these charges. What a waste time! In short, both Bridget L. Kemahli and Farmers charges too much for their insurance and know nothing about retaining customers (except against their will).

A girl driving a 2008 saturn backed into me in a parking lot. She admitted it was her fault. The dent is on the side of my car- pretty obvious I wasn't moving sideways! Farmers said that it isn't possible to assign liability to accidents in a parking lot and are refusing to pay anything! My daughter in Arizona has Farmers insurance. Her car was stolen. They fixed a few minor things but said she had to prove her car wasn't damaged before the robbery! Is she supposed to take a detailed picture every time she parks her car? Very disappointed!

Strength:

Quick professional treatment from local agency and 800 number off hours support.
Flexibility to get a check and use repair shop of choice.

Weakness:

Sometimes they seem pricey but in a few checks with other groups that bid against them they always come up within $100 of a 3 car $2500 yearly bill (not worth changing to an unknown for that little savings).

I have used Farmers Insurance for 30 years...Lynn Broaderwater is the Rochester MN agent. I have been very satisfied with all services received on autos (and home).

I have never had a major collision claim.
Most have been small: mirror glass, window glass breakin/minor theft, hail hood damage, deer hit, minor kid car hit (they helped us avoid a larger claim and insurance increase), fender damage. While that seems like lots of small things it's over 30 years and 15+ cars. We have also had good luck with a few tows needed using their 800FARMTOW service on older cars that did not have new car coverage.

Strength:

none.

Weakness:

VERY BAD claims and customer satisfaction. MAkes up excuses to avoid paying for damages.

Very Very unsatisfied with Farmers Insurance. Got hit by a speeding truck in the parking lot and was told through a claim that the accident was completely my fault, but I know 100% that I was not at fault. My damages are far worst that the truck, so to avoid paying for my damages, Farmers is saying I am at fault, and says I have to pay for the damages on the truck that hit me. I strongly dislike Farmers Insurance.

The other driver is using Farmers' insurance. Her fault caused my damage, and she did everything she knew to help me to get my car fixed ASAP.

However, Farmers insurance said they never had a chance to ge hold of the driver. The problem is that the driver has already gave the claim number to me.

My impression is that Farmers' insurance trying their best to avoid any payments.

Suggest never use it.

Weakness:

indifference and apathy towards claimants

I was involved in a car accident with a person who has farmers insurance group. He ran a red light and t-boned me. Farmers has admitted liability. The problem is getting them to settle for medical, lost wages and pain and suffering. The claims reps will low ball you and do not negotiate in good faith. They don't return calls and let you know how much of an inconvience it is to deal with you. The claims reps at the springfield illinois office have told me that a concussion is not a real injury. Go figure.I understand it is their job to look out for their companies assets. They also have a responsibility to the people whose lives have been turned upside down to make a fair settlement offer. I don't see that with farmers insurance.

Strength:

They are happy to take your money in a wide variety of methods.

Weakness:

They say they will restore to "pre-loss" condition. What they consider "pre-loss" condition is *NOT* the same thing as I consider "pre-loss" condition.

Insurance companies have two distinct functions...

1.) take your money.
2.) Provide compensation when damages occur.

I have found that Farmers has no issue on item number 1. They take money real easily. You can send them a check, pay by cash, or credit card, or they are willing to suck it out of your bank account without *bothering* you about it. Item number 2 is a different issue. If you need a claim to be settled, prepared to have them belittle your claim to the point you get a fraction of what is considered true restoration. Additionally, Farmers has been outsourcing some functions of its claims services, which means as a consumer you get a total run-around and no one has any answers. From a customer-service point of view Farmers sucks. But they are happy to take your money.

Well, I am cancelling my life, my 3 cars, my motorcycle, my boat, my motorhome, and my homeowners insurance with Farmers. I recommend looking at online review companies such as JD Powers to get an unbiased opinion. I found Amica Mutual to be *very* competitive. They don't have agents, but my Farmers agent was deaf and invisible anyways.

Strength:

Good Rates, Many Discounts, Polite Employees, HelpPoint Claims Service

Weakness:

Apparently they insure people that don't have a clue! Look at some of the other reviews! People that don't pay attention get bitten by every company.

Farmer's is a company that looks out for its customers. The rates and discounts are excellent and are more than competitive with the other big boys in the industry.
More than a few of the bad reviews in this forum are from people that are crying about Farm Bureau Insurance, which is IN NO WAY related to Farmer's Insurance. They are two different companies entirely that happen to have similar names. That's like saying State Farm and All State are the same thing because they sound alike.
As for the guy who posted on August 1st... explain to me why a damaged vehicle was just dropped off in your front yard and not taken to the repair shop or junkyard. Blaming Farmer's for bad decisions made AFTER the accident happened is unjustified. And where was his daughter's insurance company during this terrible ordeal? Any expenses incurred by his daughter's insurance company would be reimbursed through indemnity by Farmer's.

April 23rd, 2007 Poster:
"Be informed and beware!"
Do some research before you post. Farmer's Insurance is not the same as the Farm Bureau Insurance, regardless of what he might think.

Bottom Line:
No insurance company has a spotless claims record, and there issues with customer service at every company (just look at the reviews for any other provider). Find an agent you trust at a price you are comfortable with, and go with them!

And, remember, MOST accidents are the fault of both drivers involved. Most posting here point fingers and don't admit that it could be their responsibility as well.

Farmer's has taken care of me and my friends and family, and I would strongly recommend them to others. Don't be dissuaded by people that don't know what they're talking about.

It sounds like we have a Farmers employee writing a review. However my daughter was in an car accident, that was not her fault. Farmer was the other guys insurance. VIP, not on your life it was 3 weeks before anyone would even call her back. She called her insurance company and they called Farmers and that is how her call was finaly returned. She is still waiting 4 weeks on this friday and they said that they will not pay for the tax on her rental car. Will not pay for the tow truck. Her car is totalled, they came to pick it up 3 weeks later. All the fluids have spilled out and killed our grass, needs haz mat to come out and clean, they will not pay(of course) She had burns and bruises on her face and her legs, and other parts of her body, we took pictures of them they were bad. They of course will not pay. I hope that other people see this and do not go with Farmers Insurance, my daughter is going thru a very tough time and is very upset that her life has been uprooted due to an accident that was not her fault, she had plans to put a contract on a home the day of the accident and now she will have to wait until she can pay of the expenses of the car accident that was not her fault.
