It's an insurance company, they are all going to be a little bit "cheap".

Let's face it, no one likes paying for insurance. I can see from reading these reviews that the majority of people who have time or are willing to post on these sites are angry and need somewhere to vent.
I recently was hit by a Farmer's customer and the accident was deemed "not my fault". When I contacted the Farmers HelpPoint line I was immediately taken care of. The service center sent me to one of their Circle of Dependability shops where I was treated like a VIP. They even had my rental car taken care of and delivered to me. The Farmers staff was extremely professional and my car was repaired with brand new parts, the quality was excellent. I was so impressed by the professionalism thatI switched my insurance over.
If you are looking for one insurance company to make EVERYONE happy, be advised that you ARE NOT going to find it. Just ask those on the Gulf Coast who have been denied claims and coverage by Allstate, ALpha, and State Farm. You don't hear of Farmers not paying their claims, and that's because they do have to be fiscal so they can cover adequately. It's about getting you "back where you belong, not back where you THINK you DESERVE to be." As a Gulf Coast resident expecting another hurricane any day, I completely appreciate a financially responsible insurance company.

They will change your policy against your will and screw you over at the drop of a hat.

We have had our vehicles and home insured thru Farmers for nearly 14 years without ever filing a claim. Recently we changed our auto deductible from $500 to $750 and I specifically told the agent (Coltera at Mick Leeper's office in Topeka, Kansas) that I wanted the changed to go into effect on the next billing cycle since we had paid our $500 premium for several months ahead.
We ended up hitting a deer shortly after we called to request the change in policy and Farmers Insurance did a 'formal investigation' and informed me that unless we had some sort of proof that we specifically said to change the policy for the next billing cycle rather than immediately, they were going to stand behind their agent Coltera and not honor the $500 deductible on our policy.

We are now pursuing litigation in the matter.

Recently, we read in the Kansas City Star that Farmers Insurance had the worst rating of any insurance carrier in our state. I guess this is why.

My bet would be to reconsider your existing policy if you are with Farmers Insurance because apparantly even if you have had multiple autos/homes insured with them they do not care how long you have been loyal to them, they will screw you with everything they've got at the drop of a hat.

If you are shopping around for insurance and are considering Farmers, well, good luck with that one. We are no longer a customer of Farmers Insurance.

Unlike the earlier comment regarding Farmers Insurance ... I too was involved in an accident and was hit in driver side door "t-boned" ~ (pathfinder) full coverage insurance with TN Farm Bureau they UNDER payed the total of my vehicle by $2,000 ...in addition TN Farm Bureau aka Farmers Insurance denied paying my medical bills during my recovery process. I have had insurance on two vehicles for more than 15 years not to mention my familys' (mother & father's) policies for more than 30 years with less than 5 very minor claims filed. I have been insured with Farmers since I was 16. October 2006 someone ran a red light and we "T" boned and my car was totalled, and didn't have $ to get a new car. because it was a total out an adjuster had to come look at it, even waiting for him I had my check within 10 days, and it was WAY MORE than I expected and more than kelly blue book rated it at. My agent is Great, he will go above and beyond to make sure that I have every discount I'm elgiable for, and is always quick to fix something or satisfy me. I can't say enough about how great Farmers is. From the quoting process to the claim process everything ran smoothly. I also had a lot of medical bills because of this accident and everything was paid and handled very professionally.

My broker office is good, but they can only do so much.

No communication or organization

Monthly statements change by the month. I don't think this company has ANY clue of what they are doing. I have NEVER had this many problems when it comes to insurance companies. (car) As for homeowners insurance, to get this discount for whatever it is, they send a contractor to your house. The contracting company is a bunch of idiots who can't even show up on time and dont' have a clue of the actual contractors coming. I think I'll pay more and go back to State Farm.

long story short.. i got hit with someone with farmers.. 190% not my fault. farmers is willing to settle this claim by low balling me and trying to nickel and dime the repair.. basicly 4 body shops tell me what needs to be done and 1 farmers adjuster tells me the short cuts on his bottom line. im sure its a great insurance company someplace.. just dont get hit by anyone with farmers,, im looking for a lawyer to settle my claim

The agents lie. The district managers look out for their agents and not the customers.

I've had insurance with Farmers for just under 5 years. My agent has become so rude over that time that I had decided to drop my insurance unless I could get another agent. They agreed to give me another agent, but now after six months I still have the same one. It was explained to me that there is nothing that can be done. Not true. I'm leaving their company. Both agents I've dealt with have lied to me. The most recent agent is the one that said she can't do anything to get the insurance switched over to her. She called me in stating we can just bypass their policies and re-write it in her name. She said she'd save me 20 dollars by doing so. I sat in her office for over 2 hours with a check on hand waiting for her to stand by what she had told me. She couldn't produce the 20 dollar savings. I finally left. I have an appointment with another carrier. I'll switch even if it costs more now. :)

Management doesn't understand what's going on in the field, poor communication leads to poor customer service and low employee morale

The real story behind the haphazard claims handling at Farmers is that your claim will be adjusted differently by different claims adjusters. This is because Farmers communication within the company is terrible. Claims adjusters are treated terribly, and can't do anything to change the situation.

Management is hired from outside the industry, and they don't understand claims at all.

So, the claims adjusters hate their jobs, turnover is high. You might get a generous adjuster, you might get someone who tries to screw you because that's how they were trained. Good luck.

Farmers Insurance is low-balling my claim. Their customer service consists of 17 people calling me (I work from home on the phone so this is incredibly disruptive) but my actual agent will not take or return my calls. I cannot believe the treatment I have received. They keep telling me my car was trashed but that is a lie.
