My experience with American Family has been nothing but horried. I HAD insurance with the only agent in Howland, Ohio for 3 years. I actually had no problems until I went to work there. I worked there 3 months and saw how it all goes down. She never answers the phone the secretary is to say she is with someone or on another line... not true that is code for in my office chain smoking after coming in at anywhere between 10:30 and 11:00 (office hours 9-5 yeah right!!! she makes a fake sign that says went to the bank or other crap to that effect). She does not train anyone so it's kinda learn as you go hope nothing goes wrong.Customers call in for quotes is she's not feeling it she just don't call the person back. She excepts payments for her husbands business that works for another Insurance agency not American Family. Save the headache go to someone who knows what they are doing and will call you back if you have questions she definetly does not.

Customer service is terrible. They raise your rates. I was paying $130 ish and now I am "was" paying $165, because of the credit check. We went through someone else and are now paying less than half of what we were. I have been trying to cancel the auto for days and am really having a hard time doing it. I will also be canceling my homeowners as soon as I can. After reading other reviews I am glad we made this choice. None of the reviews surprised me.

I was involved in an accident with one of your customer. Their driver was cited for failure to yield. It was clearly their customer's fault.
I have spent 3 weeks trying to get this settle, But claim that they have not received a copy of the police report so they do not take liability for the accident.
In day and age I find it hard to believe that it take that long to receive anything.
They are just stalling hoping that I will just get tired and go away.
So don't your time with this insurance company

undertrained staff, poor customer service in general.

My house got broken into 4weeks ago!! Didn't hear anything positive from American family Insurance so far, still waiting for them to RETURN PHONE CALLS! Sure enough, there is no such thing as customer service but when it comes to billing, they are on top of everything. Iam switching to different home/auto insurance as soon as everythings sorted out. I've never seen such a inappropiate and dishonest insurance company EVER!!!

None that I can see. They might work well with people who have them for their coverage, but don't with those who don't have them.

American Family Insurance is one of the most dishonest companies I have come across. Last August, my husband was riding his bike and was hit by a motorist who has American Family as their auto insurance. They were sited for failure to yield and are responsible for the costs involved. We got a lawyer up front because we had never been in this situation. The first papers we received from American Family were to be signed by us and sent back to them. The claims adjuster had already filled in some of the blanks which were: I was not trasported by ambulance, I received no injuries, No one else was to blame for the . I looked at that and wondered what this guy was trying to pull. If we had signed that paper and sent it back, we would have got no money from them for anything. Then our lawyer told us that one of the adjusters called him posing as our Health Insurance to try to get medical information out of him. It has been six months since my husband's . He is still needing therapy for his shoulder because he tore the AC Joint and had to have it replaced. They keep giving our lawyer the run around for what forms he needs to send them to get some of his lost wages back. He couldn't work for close to 3 months. Our lawyer told us that three other colleauges of his have been having problems with them also. We will take them to court if they don't pay up. Our bills are way over $30,000.

Poor customer service, horrible rates

I have been a customer of American Family's for 8 years. I have a perfect driving record. No accidents, tickets, nothing. First, my agent's secretary is very rude. Second, they have now implemented a new requirement- credit checks. My credit is not the best due to some poor decisions made when I was 18. My insurance rates have gradually gone up each year, but this time, it jumped an extra $14.00 per month! I find this to be ridiculous, so I am currently shopping around. When I first got my license, I was paying $54.00 a month. I am now being charged more than $80.00 a month for insurance. Doesn't this seem kind of backwards? My rates should go down due to my age, and my perfect driving record. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, all of the companies have pretty bad reviews.

I can't say I've had any negative experiences with American Family Insurance. I've had insurance through them since I became of driving age (along with 4 claims). Each time the claims were handled promptly and professionally. I don't think they could have done any better.

Good at trying to lie to the unsuspecting victim. Will tell the boldest of lies as truth. Pinching their a$$ to not pay a penny.

Telling the truth. Paying claims that should be paid. Their business plan model.

Wife was rear ended buy a person with this insurance. Other driver was at fault and issued. She was taken away in ambulance with injuries. Had car taken to my place. Calls were placed to them the next day. Didn't not hear back for 2 weeks. Car was totaled we knew that. Finally give us a sob story and get us a rental. They also wanted to pick up the car and take it. I said not until we settle. Adjuster comes out. we get a call 4 days after being in rental on an offer. If you can call it an offer. Was well below replacement value of the car. They gave story on this and that how that is what they were offering. Replied to them with same cars in my area we going for much more. The replied back with lies and would not offer more. A month has gone by. Wife is still having ongoing issues from wreck that can not be addressed yet and the car is still at my place. We have gotten a lawyer and are in the process of taking them to court. We have to wait for the injuries to be fixed first which the Drs don't know how long that could take. She has also not been able to work this whole time.
We will see what happen in court.

If you get hit by someone with this (lack of) coverage just go get a lawyer do not pass go. They will try to ignore, bully, and lie to you to not pay a cent. They prey on people in dire conditions that can not afford to or take the time to fight them. So in my opinion on how they are treating us they deny or low ball 100% of their claims in hope you take it or just drop it all together.

Avoid this company at all costs. I think all the positive reviews on here are made by agents or the company.

I feel sorry for the people who are victims of this company that can not afford to go with out their car or the low amount they offer to them and are forced to take it to stay afloat for that second shooting them selfs in the foot in the process.

I'm so surprised to see all the negative reviews! I've had American Family since I could drive, and have always been treated wonderfully. I've filed two claims, and both were handled swiftly and politely. They are a great company that seems to always have their insureds best interests at heart.
