Strength:

Prompt service with handling claims and caring reps. I also like having a local agent that I can go to with any concerns.

Weakness:

A giant pain in the wallet.

I have had Allstate ever since I started driving. I got into my first accident three years ago during a snow storm. My car lost traction and I slid into the wheel of a semi, which sent me spinning into the fast lane. When my car came to a stop, a Jeep Cherokee smashed into my driver-side door at about 50mph. I was lucky and had enough time to prepare for the impact and got out of it with only some bruised ribs. A few different Allstate agents called me over the following week to let me know what was going on. They had a better handle on the situation than I did. They encouraged me to seek medical treatment and get a rental car, though I declined. The reps were always patient, pleasant, and caring. My car was totalled and I received a check within two weeks. I then accidentally threw away the check so they cancelled it and sent me a new one!! Of course my rates went up by quite a bit, but the accident was my fault. The insurance overall is extremely expensive, but at least I get what I pay for.

I have been using Allstate Auto Insurance for probably more than 10 years. The rate increases every year bit by bit, but my agent assured me that it affects every insurance companies. Everything is nice and dandy until an uninsured car backed into my car. Luckily I got uninsured-motorist coverage on my insurance. Allstate contacted the other driver, and he admitted that he backed into my car and has no insurance. All that is left is for the claim adjuster to check out my car and determine the cost to fix the damage. Once he looked at the damage, he claimed that was not caused from the accident and I must have gotten this damage long ago. He would only give me $400 for damage. Of course we got into an argument, but it is my word against his. I went to my Lexus dealer's body shop and asked them to inspect the damage. They confirmed that the damage is new, quote the fix at around $1600 and contact my claim adjuster directly. Allstate finally paid up the amount. Considering how long I have been with Allstate, and the frustration I was in after the accident, I don't need the extra hassle of having to prove that I was telling the truth. I do not appreciate that the Allstate claim adjuster accused me of falsifying my claim. It is not like I am getting any money out of this. Contrary, I have to spend money for the rental car and use my time getting my car fixed. After this incident I switched to AAA and save half on my annual payment.

Strength:

Quick claim service. Plenty of agents.

Weakness:

Prices are outrageous. Don't offer lowest rates unless you push the issue.

We have been Allstate customers for fifteen years. We recently purchased a new Dodge Neon SXT as a second car to our 1998 Hyundai Elantra. When I was told the new rate would be $1000/6 months, I started to look elsewhere. I found a couple of interesting things. 1. Allstate will not check for the "lowest" rate unless you specifically ask them to. I told them flat out that another company had quoted me a rate of $400 less. Suddenly, my agent was bending over backwards to match that rate. I think the least they can do is check their customer's accounts to see if there is something lower out there. 2. If you have been in ANY accident, it counts against you with them. I had a guy in a truck back into me. I was just told that because I filed a claim against his insurance company that counts as making a claim and it disqualifies me from their lowest rate. I think that should be considered criminal. I am ready to find new coverage and a more understanding company.

Strength:

Increase your insurance every 6 months even without claims. "The good hands people"? Really!!! Give me a break.

Weakness:

POOR Customer Service. Avoiding your calls, questions, etc.

I had Allstate Insurance for more then 15 years ... and when they say "your in good hands with Allstate" all they mean is their hand is always out to collect the increase after increase after increase when they raise your rates every six (6) months ... even without a claim being filed... without even an explanation. After 15 years I had enough and found another company with yearly policies without increase after increase after increase.

Strength:

Responsiveness Pricing Multiple policy discounts

Weakness:

Unable to shake stigma of big company Need to classify safe and long term clients differently

I find it disturbing how many people make baseless calims on companies like this. I have had not only Auto but Life and Home insurance with Allstate for 5 years now. No problems at all. In fact, I see Allstate offices everywhere. No problem getting a hold of someone. Claims about people not helping to run quotes and not returning calls seem foolish. What agent wouldn't take 5 minutes to make a buck in commission when you finally bought that car or home? I warn all people to take negative comments with a grain of salt. All of my inquiries regarding policy coverage have been handled very well. Sure you have to call different numbers sometimes, but that means I can call a multitude of people to get my answer. No problems with rate (at least in comparison to what is happening everywhere in the industry)

Strength:

Plenty of offices to drop off your payments to!!!

Weakness:

Customer service, willingness to leave their office to do anything but get lunch

Thre has been nothing but rate increases over the last 18 months. Then I am hit in a parking lot, I was half backed out of a parking spot and stopped for oncoming traffic for at least 5 seconds according to a third-party witness, the other driver drove directly into the back of my vehicle without even slowing down. After filing a claim to his insurance company, Allstate calls me and asks about the accident, I explain the accident and give them the name of the witness and they accept responsibility for the accident and deem me 85%-95% at fault, before the other company could even talk to the third-party witness! Of course, I have liability insurance and Allstate doesn't care about my vehicle, but is going to pay to have the other drivers vehicle repaired. I encourage all potential clients and current clients to beware and consider other options.

Strength:

at this point i cannot think of any!

Weakness:

does not reward loyal customers. HIGH rates.

I have been a client of Allstate for 28 years. For my loyalty I have been rewarded with ever increasing rates. The one claim I had over 4 years ago, was for a bumper...$2,000. MY insurance was raised more than that to make up for the money they paid. It has been 4 years and the rates went up $100 for six months..that is $200 for the year..more than I get in a raise. Allstate continues to put me in the hole, one that I cannot get out...I am SHOPPING for new insurnane!1

They keep raising the insurance more than 3 times a year.

Allstate, I was satisfied with there service, until the last 6 months my insurance went up twice. I have excellent credit, and never had a accident nor tickets, this is ridiculous, Isn't there a mandate out there to protect the people.

Customer loyalty Customer value perception

I have been insured with Allstate for 5 years. I was involved in an auto accident which I was not at fault. The other driver received two tickets and my car was totaled. Allstate had to pay out about $23,000 on the claim and then be reimbursed from USAA Casualty. USAA Casualty reimbursed Allstate about 1 year later. During that time,Allstate increased my premium from about $700 every 6 months to $1452 every 6 months! They said that it was just until USAA reimbursed them and that once that happened, my premiums would drop back. My premiums dropped $60 bi-annual once they received their compensation. They claimed there were two rate increases in the State of Texas and I got hit with them both at the same time. They also switched me to Allstate County Mutual, even though prior to and after that one accident, I had a perfect driving record.

Strength:

they *were* cheap

Weakness:

Drops people to Allstate County Mutual very quickly where rates are raised by a LOT.

Over 2 years ago, I got into an accident that totaled my car and put me into the hospital. I had insurance with AllState under my parents' plan so I thought I would be OK. That was not the case. I had X-rays done on both knees which my agent told us was covered under our insurance, but I received a bill 2 months later. It seems Allstate never paid the bill, and the hospital was coming after me for the money. Two years later, we finally got Allstate to pay that bill. Now, my parents have been insured under Allstate for about 10 years. Our house is also insured with Allstate, and we usually pay $600 every 6 months for my mom, my dad, and me to have auto insurance. In January, we received a letter from Allstate telling us they were switching us to Allstate County Mutual (their high-risk insurance), and our premiums would rise to $3000 for every 6 months. That is a 500% increase!!!! Now, if it was because of my accident, why didn't they raise our premiums 2 years ago instead of now? I've never gotten a ticket, and neither of my parents have gotten tickets in the last 5 years. What happened? I don't know. We've since switched to Progressive which is $1000 for every six months. Allstate may be cheap, but they drop people to Allstate County Mutual very quickly and there are no reasons given.
