Strength:

None that I know of.

Weakness:

Intentionally lies and covers up their customers mistakes - and charges their own customers 100% increased rates as a result of an accident even though they refuse to pay the victim less than 100% of the damages

I was in an accident with a person that had Allstate insurance. The police came to the accident and cited her for a clear violation on a left turn at a traffic light. She admitted fault to me before police arrived, but then changed her mind after contacting her insurance company - Allstate - and claimed I was at fault despite the traffic citation she received. To make a long story short, Allstate refused to pay more than 60% of the damages to my totalled car because no witnesses came forward to verify my account of the accident and because I was going 37 MPH in a 35 MPH zone (I'm an honest person who just happened to look down at the speedometer right before getting hit). During the ongoing battle, I said I needed a rental car to get back and forth from work until I could find another car, but Allstate said they would not cover the costs. My insurance company, Progressive, advised me to take advantage of my collision insurance coverage for the time being to get a new car and use my own money for a rental. Progressive then spent the next 6 months going after Allstate for 100% of the damage plus rental car costs. I only had to make phone calls occasionally - Progressive was great and took care of almost anything. They eventually took Allstate to arbitration and won 100% of the damages and I was reimbursed for rental car costs and lost wages because the girl made conflicting statements to my insurance company and her own insurance company about the accident. It is fairly clear that Allstate intentionally told her to change her original statement concerning fault. My insurance rates stayed exactly the same despite using my collision coverage temporarily. The funniest thing was that it was clear the girl who caused the accident was also being taken for a ride by Allstate - her own insurance company.

ALLSTATE

-Knowlegable Reps - Ask them a question about the polciy before you purchase so you know what your purchasing. I did.
-Been in business

Weakness:

-High Price, but when you guy shopping do you buy the lowest generic brand, or do you buy the brand you know will last.

Allstate knows exactly what they are doing reading these reviews from others. Most of the reviews I read from others always complain about why Allstate didn't want to talk to me b/c I wasn't the owner of the vehicle but I was the one whom got into an accid. When in reality, ANY insurance company would've handled the claim in the exact same manner. There is something called Privacy Acts. This act passed by many of states requires the NAMED INSUURED (OWNER OF THE VEH) to be on the phone to file a claim or take someone off their policy. EXAMPLE if you were married and then got a divorce, you wouldn't want your wife calling your insurance company and taking you off the policy without letting you know right. A lapse in coverage kills your rates. Another EXAMPLE, if someone calls and says they drove their son-in-laws - parents - friends - sister's car, an insurance company can't disclose any information about that policy or file a claim with the driver on the phone b/c it isn't their policy. Of course, ALLSTATE needs the drivers info but ALLSTATE would need the NAMED INSURED on the phone to file the claim.
If privacy acts weren't in place, your SS#, DL#, VIN's (to get a copy of your Keys) would be available to anybody who called and would TRY to file a claim on your policy.
Also, when you guys are complaining about why you didn't receive a Rental Veh when you were in a covered accid, maybe its because you didn't purchase the coverage..........
Do your homework guys, you pay insurance every month, you should know exactly what coverages you have and what you are paying for. Most people just say I have FULL COVERAGE which really means you have no clue what actual coverages you have.

Strength:

Answer the phone quick

Weakness:

Representatives not knowledgeable.

I made a policy change, added my father in law. A few days later I wanted to remove it, because we didn't need it. They wouldn't remove his name without my having to call him, find the name of his current insurance company, the policy number, the dates, etc. All they want is to have him on their policy, so they can make their $10/month. As soon as the year is up, I'm going shopping for homeowner and car insurance policy.

Strength:

None.

Weakness:

*lack customer support
*shafts customers
*slow processing time

I was driving my fiance's parent car when a van backed into me in a parking lot. The drive admitted fault and a police report was filed. Since I am not the owner of the vehicle, the claims agent wouldn't even speak with me. My fiance's father is so laid back that they step all over him. After about 3 weeks the AllState Central office told her father they will only cover 80% of the damage because the other party was also covered by AllState!!! WTF is that all about, favoring one customer over the next and we get shafted with the stick?!?!?! I advised her parents to immediately drop AllState and go to another company who really knows how to operate.

Strength:

VERY INEXPENSIVE
helpful and responsive agents

Weakness:

none!

I was insured through Allstate back when I turned 16 years old on my parents insurance policy. When I turned 19 and moved out of their house I had no problems getting a policy of my own with them. I have now had insurance through Allstate for 9 years and have never once had a problem. I have shopped around for other quotes every once in a while and Allstate is always the cheapest by far. A couple of years ago I added renter's insurance to my policy and received a multi-policy discount. They also give a discount for having more than 1 vehicle on your policy. I was married a few months ago and they knocked over $400.00 a year off my premium. I have always had a very easy time contacting my local agents and they have been extremely helpful.

Strength:

Good service, easy to get ahold of.

Weakness:

Kind of pricey.

I have had Allstate for many years now, and they have given me very good service when I needed to make claims. I have had two comprehensive claims with them on this car, one from flooding and one from theft, and both times I found that the service was as good as I hoped it would be. The adjusters were available and returned calls in a timely fashion, they worked with the repair shops (Dodge dealers) to make sure the car was repaired to factory specs, and in one case even authorized repairs of damage that was pre-existing to the accident.

None that I can see.

Weakness:

They drag their feet and don't care about anyone.

My case is a little different. My car was parked in the parking lot of the building where I live and a dead tree fell on my car and totalled it. That was more than 2 months ago. My Landlord swears he contacted Allstate and told them about this and they said it was my Insurance Co.'s responsibility. After getting a Lawyer involved, Allstate was finally contacted. It has now been about 6 weeks since Allstate became involved and I have heard nothing. They told me a week or two when I spoke to them. Meanwhile, my car is totalled and still sitting in the parking lot of the building where I live. To my knowledge, an Adjusted hasn't even been out yet, and if they have, no one informed me. This was my only vehicle. They didn't even offer to get me a rental car. I had to borrow someone's car. If and when I finally do get the value of my vehicle, I will definitely NOT be going with Allstate. That's for sure.

Weakness:

Poor customer service all around.

An Allstate policy holder backed into my car and admitted fault on site. You would think this should be an easy claim. But not with Allstate. They kindly informed me that they have 30 days to get in touch with their policy holder to confirm details. I called the claim on the spot with the policy holder in front of me and Allstate said that there was no need to talk to their policy holder.

Now I have to sit here with the damages on my car while the Allstate policy holder doesn't have to be inconvenienced at all.

SO THAT'S HOW ALLSTATE WORKS!

Weakness:

Rudeness and incompetence

Having Allstate handle my car insurance claims has been the worst experience of my life. This is the second claim I've had in a year. The first claim was handled very poorly. Allstate works at a snails pace and the first person who was assigned to handle my claim rarely picked up her phone and NEVER returned my phone calls. Eventually my claim was transferred over to two other people and I was never informed of either of these transfers. When I called my agent to try and cut through the red tape he was extremely rude and acted like he was doing me the favor of my life by taking a few minutes out of his day to help out with my botched claim. I eventually got reinbursed for all damages 9 MONTHS after the accident. I should have switched insurance companies immediately after settling that claim but stupidly, I did not. I had an accident a few days ago and am now in the process of trying to cut through all the red tape that goes along with processing a claim with Allstate. I get more and more aggravated as the days go by because I am getting absolutely no help from Allstate. If anything they are actually slowing the process down. As soon as this claim is settled and paid out I will be switching insurance companies immediately. Please don't make the same mistake I made by throwing your money away on Allstate

I had Allstate for my homeowners insurance for over 10 years. I had a small claim from a bathroom flood ($1500) several years back. The speed at which they handled the claim was very slow. I had a hard time getting them to return calls etc. When they finally came out the check was paid right away. I stayed with them because I figured it could have just been a problem with this particular claims adjuster. Well, not the case. I was in the process of moving about a year ago and there was a theft from the house I was moving out of. I contacted Allstate and was treated very well with this 1st contact. I waited for a claims adjuster to contact me. When no one did I called back the number I was given. Every time I called I got a voicemail. It was not for a specific person but just generic. I left messages several times before someone called and told me I was talking to an office on the east coast and I needed the west coast. I don't have enough room to go through all of the problems I have faced. I will tell you that I made the claim just over a year ago and still have received nothing. Needless to say I will never go back no matter what the savings.
