V8toilet
Strength:
Super DOHC V8 engine, nice quiet interior, and 1925lb. payload capacity. Very intuitive transmission! Great gas mileage for a V8 access cab truck (averaging 17 mpg). #1 in Insurance crash tests.
Weakness:
The Dunlop tires suck! They are too soft and don't have great snow traction. The paint is tissue paper thin and chips easily. The suspension doesn't have a lot of travel and sometimes bottoms out over the big stuff. Shocks are too soft and it sometimes wallows on the highway (get the TRD package). Back seat is smallish. I have driven this truck for 18-months and despite a few problems the truck is awesome. I have 31,600 miles to date. By far the best tuck I have ever driven. The only truck that is as good in my opinion in performance is the Chevy Silvoardo. The engine is super smooth and powerful. The engine hauls with power to spare. The interior is library quiet in all driving situations. The seats are some of the most comfortable seats I have been in. Everything seems to be made well. The switches, doors, and other moving parts have that quality feel. The transmission is always in the right gear no matter what my foot is doing with the gas pedal. The problems I have had to date are. My exhaust manifold cracked but it's under warranty, My seatbelts sometimes stick. Replaced under warranty. My rear drums are being replaced under warranty. I have a ticking noise from under the truck. Similar Products Used: Chevy Silvorado, Dodge Ram 5.9. Have driven a Ford F-150 a few times. |

Extended Cab, 4x4
Strength:
Quiet, smooth, expect quality as I have experienced from previous Tototas. Makes a great passenger or light duty truck.
Weakness:
Automatic transmission does not work well with towing load. Jumps up and down. Should have waited until a 5 speed manual was available and tested. Cruise control will not work under towing load for the same reason - chases after the load and causes even more unrequired gear changes. Get 8.5 to 10 mpg towing 6500 lb. 5th wheel. Expected better. Nice quiet, smooth running truck with sufficient power to tow. Bought as my retirement truck to pull a 24'-27' 5th wheel around the country. BRAKES, TRANSMISSION, BRAKES, ELECTRICAL, DID I SAY BRAKES. I'VE HAD HONDAS ALL MY LIFE AND I WAS REALLY EXCITED ABOUT GETTING MY FIRST TRUCK BUT IT'S BEEN A TOTAL NIGHTMARE. MY LAST HONDA REACHED TO 287,000 AND I SOLD IT FOR $3500 AND IT WAS STILL RUNNING GOOD. DAMN! Worst buying experience ever! My Tundra had had conitnuous problem from day one. Constant brake problems. Blown transmission at 30K miles (I drive like a grandma).Constant brake problems ( 3 sets of brakes within 40,000 miles). Rattling noises popping up everywhere. Door locks open while driving for no reason. I'm constantly at the service center writing checks. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TRUCK!!! |

SR5 access cab 4x4 v8
Strength:
Design, Engine, Ride, Dealer, very quite and great resale I would only trust Toyota on a 1st year production product.
Weakness:
Thin Paint (as with all Toyotas), No Locker, and Stress Fracture of the Driverside rearveiw mirror. This is my 3rd Toyota Truck and I have almost 60k on it now and no major problems. I replaced the tires. I would buy another Tundra in a Heartbeat. The other 2 trucks were traded with over 170k on them Similar Products Used: Ford Bronco (I shouldn''t need to say Why I didn''t get another Ford) |

Tundra access cab 4X4
Strength:
Power, ride, low road noise. No squeaks or rattles. 38,000+ miles never in the shop. Resale and quality all the way.
Weakness:
Small back seat. Four-wheel buttons should be put higher on the dash. This is my second Toyota truck. I am in sales, and in my first year I drove 35,000 miles. I have purchsed two new Fords, their junk always in the shop. I can''t wait for a true 4-door version. Similar Products Used: I have owned two new Rangers-Junk. |

Regular Cab 4x4 V8
Strength:
Quality. This is the best built pickup I have ever driven. None of the squeaks and rattles found in other trucks. Ride is more like an expensive sedan than a truck - smooth and quiet. V8 is very nice with lots of torque.
Weakness:
Overpriced. Maybe the extra quality should command a higher price, but Tundra has too many cheap touches. ABS is standard on all the other trucks but costs extra on Tundra, in spite of high price. Only truck that still comes with rear drum brakes. Small, cramped cab. Cheap, plain-looking interior. Useless center console. Poor sound system. Uncomfortable seating. Idiot dealer. Very high quality truck with some significant drawbacks. Similar Products Used: Fords and Rams |

SR5 Access Cab 2x4
Strength:
It''s a Toyota. It''s reliable. It drives like a truck, but it''s not uncontrolable. Looks Great! Most comfortable drivers-seat out there, test drove Chevy and Dodge... the Toyota just ''felt right'' My husband is VERY tall and his head touches the ceiling in the Dodge, the Toyota fits him fine. Another strength would be the dealership, Toyota of OXNARD is wonderful to work with!
Weakness:
None, but I wish I got the 4x4..... Also, if your previous car was a 1968 VW Bug, you should get used to your new monster before trying to parallel park!! (See above summary Re: Fender) Oh wait! There is one Weakness: "Toyota of Santa Barbara" is quite possibly the greatest weakness of the entire Toyota Corporation. Wonderful Truck. I just hit 46,000 miles and have had it for only 17 months! Regular Oil Changes, New Tires 2 months ago, and a new set of brake pads are all the maintenance I''ve had to do. (Oh, and a new fender when I backed into a light post, but I''m a girl, that''s to be expected, right?!) Similar Products Used: Just bought a Sequoia 4x4 (our family is growing with two English Mastiffs) If you''re considering a Tundra because you need a vehicle, not specifically a truck... look @ the Sequoias too! |

Tundra reg cab 4x4 V8
Strength:
Power (v8), towing, steering (very nimble), payload, good brakes dispite rumors, transmision shifts wonderful (auto), clean under the hood, all around very good. good value too.
Weakness:
Major: Hate dunlap tires, wear too quickly, grip poorly, too soft of sidewalls. better after more air. Paint a little thin. Minor: skid plate has to be removed every oil change (do myself). Location of clock, eyes have to move too far from the road to see time. did not buy with fog-lights, cost $280 just for lights. rear suspension could/should be stiffer. mpg kinda low 13/18 but I keep my foot in it. locking gas cap unnesscary. buying helper spring kit to pull trailer regulerly. trailer package needs electric brake kit. Extremly pleased with the truck. my first new pick-up, looked at all others (full size) wouldn''t have any other. Great power, looks, handling off and on road, comfortable, easy under the hood mantince. Excellent all around half ton pick-up. pulled a 15ft equipment trailer (wheels set way back, lots of tounge load) that weighs about 3500lbs and put a 4000lbs engine on it pulled with power to spare, and braking was excellent. not goverend at 105mph like in other review. going up steep hills in michigan (u.p.) with about 3000lbs trailer only shifts out overdrive. 15,000 miles no sign of any problems. front brakes are fine. Tundra SR5
Strength:
Ride and quietness - has been noted by everone that has driven or riden in it. It even impressed a life long Ford truck owner to where he''''s interested in purchasing one. Reliability.
Weakness:
Clock is way too low to see without bending over. Back seat is too upright to be comfortable for any length of time. I have had absolutely no problems with my Tundra since buying new in January of 2000. I pull my 18'''' boat about 1000 miles per month from May to September with no problems. Average about 15.5 mpg while towing. It also handles all the off roading I do through Minnesota''''s north woods and swamps each fall.
