Strength:
Looks, handling, power. The exterior, and interior is put together well.
Weakness:
Sloppy transmission, rough idle, switch "clicks" in the dash every time the a/c compressor goes on or off or when the intermitten wipers are on. Loud "pop" from the ABS after start up. You can't catch the oil when changing the oil filter!!!!! You can't read the dip stick with fresh oil. Pathetic keyless entry system. 8 chipped paint spots at 1500 miles. Swooshing noise under the dash with a/c on. Very dissappointed. The truck handles well, I think It looks great, but it is very unrefined mechanically. Of course the dealer says everything is normal. If that's true, then this is an overated, poorly engineered truck. My first and last Toyota. I have no clue how they got such a great reputation. My wifes Expedition is much more refined than this truck. I've never felt such a sloppy transmission. Even my 97 Chevy S10 didn't irritate me like this truck. Weakness:
Transmission We bought the Truck on Weds. and Friday the Transmission is gone and only has 32000 miles....is this happening to others? We were on the freeway going 60mph and it slips out of gear and will not excelerate....scary with a baby in the car! It's at the dealer today...hopefully it will be repaired smoothly! Strength:
The most power in a truck it's size. It has plenty of low end torque and high end horsepower, when used right is very versitale. Pulling a trailer or out for a ride handles great. Seriously out performs all other trucks in it's class.
Weakness:
Toyota over looked the body in some ways.Windows rattle when down a small way.Front mudflaps fold under at carwash.plastic piece covering seat bolt down allways coming off. speaker in door rattles at times. slight vibration at highway speeds. Front break system needs to be recalled, Roters warp every 10000 miles. something should be done about that.I also had 2 02 sensors go out at 48000 miles, Lucky for extended waranty only cost $50. deductible. Toyota Tundre is one of the best buys for the money.Ford, Chevey and Dodge drivers, do not look in the rear view mirror to find one. Toyota Tundra
Strength:
Acceleration, gas mileage, towing/load capacity, Toyota is a well built truck, just needs some improvements.
Weakness:
Suspension(with dealer struts), clock, paint, brakes, rattles in too many spots, dealers/salesmen...... After we bought our Toyota Tundra, I posted a review with how unhappy we were with the truck. Now after owning it for a few years, there are other things popping up with it. When the brakes get hot, there is a bad vibration in the brakes when applied. The radio anntena came loose, the paint keeps chipping off and the dealership tells us that it's "Just the clear coat finish", but it goes right to the metal. There is a noise coming from the dash, and the passenger door that becomes very annoying. We replaced the shocks on the front end last week, which beefed it up a lot, but cost us over $300.00 canadian just for the front two, plus it took the mechanic about four hours to put in. They are not shocks but struts, and they are tough to remove and replace. Compared to what the front end used to be like, this money was well spent, it now rides like a pick-up should. If anyone has a problem with air noise at certain speeds, if you have a bug deflector, that is where the noise is coming from, and not a leak in the windshield. The best gas mileage we've had was 28, not too bad for a truck! Similar Products Used: 1988 Ford 4x4, 1993 Toyota T-100 |

Strength:
Looks, ride, low road noise and decent milage.
Weakness:
Brakes, transmission and valve seals. Have had problems with front brakes right from the gate. Understand the brake problems were rectified with the 2001 model. Have experienced puffs of exhaust smoke when starting engine. Just recently began experiencing a transmission noise (clunking) when shifting to overdrive. I have the Limited and like the looks, nice ride, low cabin noise. Waiting to see the extent of transmission problems before I decide on going with a 2003. Similar Products Used: Ford 150 |

SR5 4X2 Tundra
Strength:
Comfortable, smooth, good gas mileage, looks
Weakness:
Dealer service, loud engine noise with AC on take off, paint chips easily, intermittent starting problem that occurs 3-5 times a month I generally like the truck although it does have some annoying faults. One is an intermittent starting problem, another one is loud engine noise with the AC on when taking off from a stop, another one is the paint chips easily. The ride is smooth and comfortable. It has a small turning radius which helps in some situations. Similar Products Used: Chevy Silverado |

Smooth ride, powerfull, car like inside, quiet.Dealer is very helpfull and I hope he continues
Weakness:
Mileage,Paint finish easy to scratch, tire option should be better. Very smooth, lots of power easy to drive. The 4 doors are very convenient.I had to put step bars on because of the height. Most likely the drivers seat will wear as you slide in and out on it.I'm using it for camping and will be houling a 1500lb in back camper.I had extra springs on the rear to beed up the suspension. I hope it works, I'll know in two weeks as I goinging east for two weeks I'll keep you posted. At present I have a vibration in the steering at 40kil perhour and at 80 to 90 kil per hour. I had all wheels balanced and rotated by the dealer but it did not fix the problem.I have 265x16 Dunlop tires.Anyone have the same proble and a solution.
