Strength:
--engine---penty of power-- --handling open road and curves just fine---------
Weakness:
---tranny--sloppy-same on you toyota ( 5 speed std ) front end---pot hole or divot shakes like a old---- starts harder then others-- toyota doesnt request any product real time feed back -- only info on salepersons (dont drive salesperson ) seat belt anchor fixed hard to engage----foot hits gas pedal----a lot of pickey little things ---but toyota has to hire some engineer's and talk to owners---dont think the truck will last 300,000 miles like the last toyota ,ford and sio chevy===hope i;am wrong nice truck --but needs additional engineering to be pose a threat to chevy oor ford or dodge---cant believe toyota noted for engineering and detail would let major and minor defects slide by. Strength:
Pretty good ride but a bit bouncy, good driving position, simple design under the hood. Generally good ergonomics inside.
Weakness:
Brake Vibrations! Brake Vibrations! Brake Vibrations!, Trans shifting, poor design of rear seat area. Plastic front skid plate. Thin front bumper. Wraps around too close to front tires. Too heavy and ponderous for a mid sized truck. Too small and weak for a full sized truck. Toyota sucker punched us with this truck. Toyota needs to fix the brake problems and stop applying band aids to the problem. Too many fixes besides the brakes. Trans shifting problems, nosey tapits, CD player replaced, rear shocks replaced, dip stick repalced, back seat to poorly designed. Similar Products Used: Ford and Chevey trucks |

Toyota Tundra V-8
Strength:
Good smooth power, nice interior and good over all looks.
Weakness:
BRAKES! The Brakes need to be recalled! I have 47,000 and Toyota will not fix my brake vibration problem. I have already had the first round of brake fixes @ 29,000 and Vibration came back @ 36,500..out of warrenty..ugh! Also had rear dif. seal go out @ 29,000..leaked all over the rim. I have read hundreds of postings on www.tundrasolutions.com about the BRAKE Vibration problems that Toyota does nothing to fix. HONDA IS COMING OUT WITH A 2004 V8 TRUCK....should have waited. I have owned Honda Accords my whole life and bought into Toyota's reputation and bought the Tundra....what a mistake! |

Toyota Tundra
Strength:
Good ridged frame, solid body construction. Good fit and finish on interior and exterior. Powerful and capable drivetrain.
Weakness:
The brake system needs to be addressed as this is a critical system to the safe operation of the vehicle. The brakes in my Tundra last between 5k to 7.5k miles before repair of the front discs and or rear drums need repair. I do not haul heavy loads or pull trailers. My 1987 Toyota 4-Runner's front brakes were replaced 4 times and the rear brakes once in almost 200k/13 years of service. At this writing I just had the truck in the shop for excessive vibration and it turned out the rear drums had warped after 5.5k miles. This in my opinion is unacceptable. The dealer's service department has no solution for this problem from the factory. TRD suspension needs further development. Tundra is a excellent vehicle for what it was designed to do, with the exception of one design flaw, which I will elaborate on in the Weakness's section. It starts and runs reliably. But the stock set of tires wore out at 40k miles and were poor performers in the rain/wet pavement. If I had to do it over again I would have went and had different tires installed. The TRD off road package makes the vehicle to soft a ride and can give you the impression you are about to become out of control. I prefer a stiffer ride that gives me a better feel for the road. The TRD system needs refinement. The fit and finish is good on the vehicle. The seats are comfortable and supportive. The V8 gives plenty of punch when needed. The next time around I probably will go with Ford or Chevrolet for a pick up truck. Similar Products Used: 1997 chevy pickup truck 1996 Ford F150 1987 Toyota 4-Runner |

Strength:
Engine for starters. Interior is comfortable when there is no one in the back. Ergonomically I cannot complain when compared to other vehicles I have been in.
Weakness:
Suspension is my major complaint. I bought the 2 wheel drive SR5 extended cab and was too wobly. Thanks to Fabtech suspension that problem was solved real quick. Cab could use some additional length for more comfort. Overall the truck is good for Toyota's official crack at the full size market. The appearance of the truck is great. power from the V8 is impressive easpecially when I have no problems pulling away from the Fords or Chevy's. So far have not had any problems in performance and reliability. I love driving it every chance I get! |

Strength:
Love the ride.
Weakness:
Paint job. No anti-rock chip paint along bottom - had to be put on by outside company. Toyota covered this. After purchase, we noticed marks on paint - thought it was just a bad paint job - but after problem with chipping, we let it slide, figured we could live with it. We purchased the vehicle sight unseen (took delivery in dark). After 2 1/2 years of use, paint looking worse. Took it into a paint shop to look over. Something unknown has been sprayed all over truck. Wondering if anyone else has complaints with this - possibly the same shipment. Don't know if it came from the factory or if it happened on transit. Now Toyota won't recognize it because it isn't something in the paint or clearcoat, but something external. Will have to put through insurance. Driving on highway after purchase, noticed shimmying. Took it to dealer - the truck was balanced - Toyota paid for this since it was noticed right after purchase. Overall good running vehicle. Smooth ride. Lots of torque and pep. Purchased Extended cab V8 4X4. Similar Products Used: 1995 4Runner 1990 4Runner 1987 Nissan P/U 1984 Nissan P/U 1980 Landcruiser 1975 Chevy P/U |

Strength:
Good power. Fit & Finish of interior. Low Windnoise. Pretty good turning radius.
Weakness:
Have had problems with Trans, Tire wear (Dunlops suck), brake rotors, long starts on engine. Front suspension really crashes hard when off roading on modest trails at modest speeds. Also really don't care for the sluggish steering and high body roll. I bought the extended cab 4x4 for its high quality reputation Pretty disappointed overall...don't really know how Toyota got a good reputation on this truck. |

too low for the money I paid for, needs money for a lift, pricey I traded my toyota tacoma for this tundra v8,the first time I drove it for a test drive,I didn't wanna go home without it,it has a dual exhaust that sounds so good, the stainless exhaust tips from the dealership attracts everybody's attention, smooth ride, good looks, don't wanna end up with a ford truck, the resale value of tundra is the best and I drove a tacoma for 2 years, never had a problem so I expect that this 2002 tundra will last long without giving me no problem.I love this truck,my neighbors that got Ford f 150 are jealous of my tundra. Strength:
Lots of power V 8 engine 4x4 works great, pull fishing boat every week with no problems.Looks great , drives great.
Weakness:
Needs more storage space, example no space behind rear seat. Great truck lots of room, this is the first toyota I ever owned. We have always owned ford trucks and vans, and a coulpe of chevys. The ford is by far better than chevy, but the Tundra is even better than the ford. Similar Products Used: Ford f150, Chevy |
