Strength:
nice ride, quiet..
Weakness:
brakes suck. BFG tires wore out after 30K. Not a bad overall truck. Grew up with Hondas and Toyota quality is nowhere near the Honda's. I am having brake issues as well. Replaced rotors (once) brakes twice and I am about to get them replaced again. overall not that bad, except for the brakes. |

Weakness:
Brakes I have had many Toyota's all had one thing in common.. Poor brake systems. The Tundra stops just fine except the rotors warp. The transmission seams to jump when cold. I do like the truck it's more fun than the Camry I traded for it. Only now I have to get used to half the gas mileage. Similar Products Used: S-10, Camry, Celica, and Corolla. |

Strength:
Very fast, strong, and sturdy. Smoothest riding pickup I have ever driven or rode in. Looks great to me, and the interior has alot of nice perks, such as 6 cup holders, a retractable center console that makes a seat, and hiden storage compartments.
Weakness:
Like I said, the only complaint I have is the door panel is fuzzy, and fuzz off of my clothes sticks to it. Oh, and the price is a little high, but if it holds up like all of the other toyotas in the family, then I will save money on parts never having to be replaced. I bought My 2001 V8 TRD Tundra a year and a half ago. It has 42,000 miles on it, and I am throughly impressed with this truck. It has all the power I need to pass when and where I want, even towing a loaded trailor. I've packed the bed with everything imagenable, even 1760 pounds of sackcrete bags, and the springs seemed not to even notice it very much. Further more, I pulled my buddy's 1988 F 250 on it's side for a 1/4 of a mile to get it back on it's tires, and the Tundra didn't even know it was back there. I work it hard pulling and towing loads, off road riding, and racing up and down the road, but it never complains one bit. No maintinace to this day, other than changing the oil. It's interior looks and feels high quality, and appears very solid. My only complaint is the cloth on the front doors resembles a lent brush and picks up every fuzzball in site. Over all it looks great, handles great, runs very fast and strong, it pulls like crazy, and feels more solid and well built than any other new pick up that I have driven. The Tundra is well worth what I payed for it. Email me at XGERMX7@aol.com if you have any qestions. Similar Products Used: I've driven every new pick up modle except for the new dodge ram, and the dodge 3500. I also owned a 1989 toyota pick up, that I traded in because I wanted to try out toyota v8 power. |

Weakness:
Transmission, brakes Really like this truck, I have owned 4 toyota trucks previously. The V-6 has enough power. I agree with alot of people that the brake problem is definately a engineering flaw. Anyway my truck has 50,000 miles on it and the transmission went out, the overdrive quit now they say it will be a month before it can be fixed because there is not a transmission in the United States. Hard to believe. |

Strength:
Quiet, rides great (the thing that sold me), powerful, power-everything, extended cab that came with a wonderful topper.
Weakness:
Limitied visibility in left side of windshield (wide frame or I'm too short), a little 'clunk' when releasing the brakes. I LOVE my truck. I went to look at a Celica, drove it, finally said 'no'. Was getting ready to leave the lot & saw my Tundra - drove it (for kicks) and said "I had to have it." Had a 2000 Tacoma previously, not even close. Toyota has a history of quality. But be aware of 4WD issues.
Weakness:
I am not happy with the company for not standing behind a problem with the 4WD. Vibrations felt throught the steering wheel, gas pedal, brake and to a lesser extent through the cab. The problem is very noticable and progressively gets worse. Dealer and toyota customer service just wants me to live with this but the product does not deliver what toyta tundra should deliver. By the way when the 4wd is engaged the vibration and noise goes completely away and the truck drives the way it did when new and the way it should for many more miles to come. COMPLETELY DISSATISIFIED WITH THE PRODUCT AND TOYOTA BECAUSE OF THIS. I have driven in Ford Chevy Dodge and even 4runners and tacomas, none of which has any issues like this. The truck has great ride and power. BEWARE of an ISSUE with the 4WD. Vibration and noise at 25 to 40 mph with 4wd disengaged. The noise and vibration disappears when 4wd is engaged. Toyota does not view this as a problem. With only 9000 miles on mine and after paying over $26000 for it I am here to tell you it is a problem. Dealer admits mine is a severe case but they are not willing to do anything about it. I drive primarily in these speed ranges and REGRET purchasing this truck. Similar Products Used: none |

Good looks, good heat and air.
Weakness:
Weak bench seat, too much wind noise, brakes, front end not strong enough. Brakes are terrible.Rotors replaced at 4000mi. Lots of wind noise, very very bumpy on the ride. Replaced rear shocks already, 6400mi, now. Trans shifting wild.Cab and body loose. Almost regret trading 2000 Ford 150 for this truck. Miss in engine, toyota states every thing normal, makes me wonder where all the quality went.Good looking truck, but can't ride the looks. Front end not strong enough. bottoms out too easily. Need to get rid of the struts and go back to coil springs, with shock inside. Similar Products Used: 2000 ford F150, miss my 87 chevy w/toyota engine and drive train. |

Access Cab 4x4 TRD
Strength:
This truck is stout. There's not a rattle or squeak in it. The engine is strong and has plenty of torque. It can haul or pull just about anything you've got. It's also, in my opinion, the most attractive truck on the road.
Weakness:
If I have to say, it would have to be the gas mileage this truck gets. Mine has averaged 15.5 to 16.5 MPG since day one (Hwy and city driving combined). On a good note, the truck doesn't perform as well on Plus or Premium octane. It runs best on regular gasoline. The OEM CD player skips sometimes on bumpy roads. I occasionally get aggravated with the seatbelts as they are slow to retract. The windows will rattle sometimes if they're slightly cracked open, but only in a certain position, so it's easily avoided. I hear a lot of complaints about Toyota's Customer Service, but since my truck has had no real problems yet, I've not experienced that and can't comment. Bought this truck in July 2000. Currently has 35K miles on it. No problems yet. I did have to put new tires on it as the BFGs didn't last too long. Everything works flawlessly. The interior is as quiet as a Lexus. My leather interior is top-notch. The push button 4WD works like a charm. I cannot describe a problem to anyone reading this because I've had none. The truck is everything I hoped it would be, and more. Best vehicle I've ever owned, so far. Similar Products Used: 1994 Chevrolet - customized and a great vehicle, but not tightly assembled. 1994 Toyota 4x4 - Small truck, but as dependable as you could possibly ask for. Strength:
The truck doesn't get too bad of fuel milage and has good power. The ride is nice and the truck if fairly quiet.
Weakness:
Trouble with the brakes right away at around 7k miles. I was a Toyota Salesman and worked at the dealership, so they took care of it for me by turning the front rotors. I have had lots of trouble getting the tires balanced correctly by several tire companies, all of whom say it is a real problem with these trucks. I now have only 50k on the truck and the tail lights on my trailer don't work because the truck has a problem in the wiring. Apparently it was too light and can cause a short which leaves you with not brakes or lights on your trailer. Also the shocks are bad, the doors rattle and there is a vibration in the brakes again & my ABS light is on. My old truck had well over 100k miles and never a problem one. I no longer work for Toyota. This Tundra has been a good truck but not as good as my old 89 V-6 Pickup. I do enjoy the power but have had more problems with this truck, than I did with the old one. This truck received the truck of the year award and that sort of makes me wonder what all the others are like. |
