Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

Available in Regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax styles, the Tundra also features three bed lengths, three engines, three wheelbases and a choice of 4X2 or 4X4 configurations.

The Tundra offers three engines and three cab sizes. Handling is relatively responsive, but the ride with the TRD package is stiff. The 5.7-liter V8 is very powerful. The tailgate is easy to raise and lower. A new 4.6-liter V8 replaced the old 4.7-liter for 2010.

Strength:

Great performance and look. Love the sound of the TRD stainless steel dual exhaust.

Weakness:

The Tundra is not a reliable truck. Started having one problem after the other at around 35K miles. Had the rear drums completely replaced and replaced oxygen sensor twice due to "design flaw". There is too many design flaws with this truck; front disc brakes, rear drums, and oxygen sensors. Toyota needs to recall this truck and replace all design flaws!! It's wonder that a brake design flaw has not cause an accident.

I thought I was buying a well built Toyota truck...I was mistaken. Very pleased with the performance of the V8 and apprearance, but handling, braking and overall dependablity is lacking. My next truck, very soon, will be one I had no problems with in the past...Ford F150 or upgrade to the F250.

Strength:

Good ride and handling for a truck. Great Motor and auto trany Great Fit and finish

Weakness:

A miserable vehicle on long drives due to the terrible bench seat with not support or adjustments. Breaks are OK but lack feel with the ABS and rear drums. A $30000 vehicle realy should have 4 wheel disks. Gas miliage is very poor. 11-12 in town, 15 highway.

Don’t buy the bench seat! It is horrible for anything except a trip to the corner store. In the short test ride I took before purchase, I never noticed how CHEAP the seats were on the 03 Tundra. On a six hour trip I discovered this major shortcoming. After about an hour of driving, my lower back was starting to hurt and my butt was going numb. The seat has very poor lower body support and is too flat and too low for a six-footer. Even with the seat slid back all the way my knees seem high in the air and none of my weight is supported on the backs of my legs. After a while I feel the slight but constant pressure of slowly sliding forward. The seat back has no lower back support and no lumbar adjustment. The seat back also has limited back angle adjustments (too much angle change between clicks). There was really only one seat back position that worked for me without being too upright or laid back, combine that with the need to fully extend the seat on it’s tracks, and one realizes the seat actually has no adjustment at all (for me) to help reposition your body on long trips. I was miserable at the end of my six hour trip, and even worse on the return trip home. Had I not been driving the new truck out of town for a week of work, I would certainly have returned it to the dealer under the buyer’s remorse period. This has totally ruined an otherwise great truck. One more thing. The rear seats are totally useless for anything except a few cubic feet of luggage space. There isn’t even room for hanging cloths.

Strength:

Good looks - 4WD works well. Very quiet from Wind Noise. Powerfull engine.

Weakness:

Gas Guzzler, Bad Brakes, Bad Brakes, Bad Brakes, Dash Rattles, poor interior lighting, poor build quality, vibration issues when accelerating. BF Goodrich tires suck - poor traction and can't be balanced well.

Good looking truck but poor build quality for a Toyota. They brag about it being totally assembled in America - is this a good thing? Quiet interior - but the dash rattles when cold and the brakes are the worst I have ever used in a vehicle. The Truck also has a vibration when accelerating around 60-66 mph which is very annoying.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Tundra SR5 4x4

Strength:

Silky smooth, powerful engine. Overall length is shorter than others, fits nicely in my garage. Excellent fit and finish. Quiet ride even at high speeds. Toyota uses quality materials on interior surfaces. No glare from dash on windshield like some other trucks. Interior fabrics are easy to clean. Dealership (Jack Safro, Brookfield, WI) is clean friendly and easy to do business with. Reliability is rated very good although I have experienced one troubling problem.

Weakness:

Pickup bed several inches shallower than others. Front seats have limited adjustment features. Difficult to find a permanent, comfortable driving position. Tundra needs more flexibility in configuration, ie. engine, trim, bed size, tire and wheel options, transmission cooler, etc. to be competitive with other full-size trucks. A seriously annoying (and it appears ongoing since the 2000 model year) vibration problem on braking and accelerating. Toyota says they are working on a permanent fix but dealers have been kept in the dark about exactly what the problem is and when they will do something about it.

Excellent overall quality. I have 15000 miles on the truck and have successfully used it to tow 2000 lb. camper with 700 lb load in bed plus 2 passengers. Plenty of power. Handling is on a par with other full size trucks but my last Ford Ranger handled better. I have grown to dislike the look of those huge wheel flares with the small looking 265/70/16 tires. It reminds me of that tacky "custom" van look. This my fifth truck, my third 4x4, and my first full-size. I would still recommend it to anyone who needs a full-size truck but does'nt need a beast.

It rides better than my wife Lexus RX300!

Weakness:

The brakes on the Tundra are a disgrace to the Toyota reputation. The way they will deny the problems with the braking system publicly and then take you aside and advise you to get out from under it because they don’t know how long they will support fixing the brakes is appalling. There should be a recall to correct this flaw in an otherwise good looking well performing truck.

The look of the truck is great although I believe that the 2003 is not near as good looking as the older models. Durability I owned a F150 and was in the shop 3 times during warranty period.

Weakness:

I do have some paint chipping but no more than I did with my F150. At this point there are no weaknesses that I can report.

I have really enjoyed my Tundra.I have had none of the problems that are being mentioned. I have 27000 miles and really enjoy how smooth the ride is.I have had not a single warranty item to date.

Weakness:

Gas mileage could be better-but what can i expect with a V8.Back seat is to sraight should have a little angle anything would better.- no one wants to sit back there for that reason.

Bought the Tundra only on it's reliability.Have a Dodge pickup also and have had nothing but trouble.Dealership has been great. So far love the truck -it has alot of class with the leather interior and the wood trim.Ride is smooth you don't feel like your in a truck. No problem with the brakes so far.Very happy over all.
