Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

Available in Regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax styles, the Tundra also features three bed lengths, three engines, three wheelbases and a choice of 4X2 or 4X4 configurations.

The Tundra offers three engines and three cab sizes. Handling is relatively responsive, but the ride with the TRD package is stiff. The 5.7-liter V8 is very powerful. The tailgate is easy to raise and lower. A new 4.6-liter V8 replaced the old 4.7-liter for 2010.

Strength:

Super smooth engine. Quiet cabin with almost no wind noise. Powerful brakes.

Weakness:

Needs bigger engine for more low-end torque. Rear seat is too small. Limited aftermarket.

I've driven a 99 Chevy Silverado 5.3, Ford 2001 and 2003 4.6 and 5.4, 2002 Dodge four door with 5.9, and a 2000 Dodge 2500 with 5.9. The Chevy is powerful but the interior is lacking in quality. The Ford is built well and does most everything well but the design is dated and the 4.6 is weak and thirsty. The Ford with the 5.4 is still competitive though. The 2002 Dodge handles well for such a large vehicle but its 5.9 runs out of breath early and it guzzles fuel like nothing I’ve driven before. It’s just too big. The 2000 Dodge is a company truck and it’s falling apart. The 2001 Tundra is a fine machine delivering a smooth ride and capable handling. The engine feels like it has better low-end torque than the Ford 4.6 but less than the Chevy 5.3 and the 5.4 but after 2800 RPM it rockets with a rush of power. It’s also much smoother in the upper revs compared to the best of the big three. I took this thing once to the track for the heck of it and it ran a 15.5 @ 87 mph in the quarter mile. Impressive for a pickup truck! The cabin is quieter than any other pickup truck I have been in and actually most sedans. The interior is a little bland but the fit and finish is top rate and the controls don’t feel cheap like they do on some of the big three. The brakes have been trouble free now for 48k miles with the exception of the rear brake TSB that was done under warranty at about 25k miles. If given the chance I would purchase another Toyota again. I use this truck for work and I’ve loaded it with more than 1000 lbs. quit a few times and it handles the loads very well.

Strength:

Smooth engine, powerful, and quiet engine. Excellent off road prowness. Near car like handling. Top notch interior for a truck. Build quality. Very refine truck. Excellent braking ability.

Weakness:

Slightly smaller than the domestics. No larger optional V8 engine. Suspension's a little soft for heavy payload(1600lbs+).

Superior truck in the half-ton market. Strong power, smooth, very reliable, and quiet. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the half-ton market.

2001 5.3L Silverado LT Xtended SB, equal power for a slightly larger engine. Very jiggly on road bumps. Had average braking performance. Very roomy. Suspesion was also a little soft for heavy payloads

Strength:

strong 245hp V8, Good looks, Toyota reliability.

Weakness:

Lack of a 5 speed manual with the V8 and no HD or diesel option.

The is a great truck. I have had 2 other Toyota trucks and they were great also. I have also used other brands, and they are not as nice. Toyota has rock solid reliability and the Tundra is no exceptions. I would recommend this truck to anyone in need of a full-size half ton extend cab truck.

Similar Products Used:

Chevy 1500, 3500, and Suburban. Ford F150 and F350, and Dodge diesel. None of these is as nice as the Tundra. The GM trucks just don't last and they seem to fall apart even with good care. The Dodges

No truck but a Tundra can go over 100,000 miles and still run great. Its a truck that rides like a car and no Ford or Dodge have come close. Great on road, and great off road. All around a great truck that will last a long time.

Model Reviewed: Tundra SR5 4 door

Strength:

Power- This truck is amazing, the 4.7 liter V8 still leaves everyone else in the dust. I have to control myself everytime I catch a Ford in a passing lane. I will start controlling myself next month. I've had both Fords and Chevys try and get away and not one has succeded yet. Drive one and you to will become a believer. Style- I know many people complain that the Tundra is boring, but I disagree. It has the simple smooth lines that makes Toyota what it is. Craftmenship- This truck is put together, it has over 70,000 miles and not one rattle or sqeak. Comfort- You'll swear your sitting in a Camry.I'm 6'4" and have no complaint at all. IT'S A TOYOTA- Those who own one know what I mean. Those who don't are missing out.

Weakness:

I've read reviews complaining about the back seat. That might be a valid compaint if your a full sized adult on a 5 hour drive, otherwise it's comparable to most trucks in this class. Your mom told you to sit up straight anyways. The gas mileage is also pretty bad, but I didn't but it for that reason. Full size trucks aren't built for getting good gas mileage.

I have been looking for this truck since it was introduced and now I have one, and I couldn't be happier! Everytime I get into it I think to myself, this is how a truck should be built.
