Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

Available in Regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax styles, the Tundra also features three bed lengths, three engines, three wheelbases and a choice of 4X2 or 4X4 configurations.

The Tundra offers three engines and three cab sizes. Handling is relatively responsive, but the ride with the TRD package is stiff. The 5.7-liter V8 is very powerful. The tailgate is easy to raise and lower. A new 4.6-liter V8 replaced the old 4.7-liter for 2010.

Strength:

Handles well, smooth and quiet ride. Decent power.

Weakness:

I have had constant problems with brake pads and warped rotors since before the truck even hit 10,000 miles. It now has 43000. Toyota has "fixed" the problem 3x, replaced the rotors twice at no cost (but only after persisting and getting Toyota Customer Service involved) I am still having brake problems and from what I can see, so do alot of 2000 Tundras. Toyota does not have a recall on the brakes/rotors but they have posted a TSB which is admitting there is a problem with brakes/rotors. Toyota needs to correct this problem. It's getting real old!!!! I have never had brake problems with any other vehicle so it's not my driving like the dealer claims.

Like the truck except for the constant brake/rotor problems and the seats are very uncomfortable. Mine is the 60/40 split. The buckets seats are better.

Strength:

Good engine performance and ride.

Weakness:

Brakes are a continuing problem, spent $800 in 2+ years. Latest recall requires customers with recurring brake problems to spend $1600+ to hopefully correct problem without any compensation from Toyota.

Good truck, EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKES, Toyota will not stand behind their product.

Strength:

V8 power with unmatched smoothness and resonable gas mileage. Comfortable seating and highway smoothness (for a 4 wheel drive truck). Great styling inside and out (subjective). Typical perceived Toyota Quality and Reliablity. Resell value? Built in the USA, designed in Japan.

Weakness:

The paint is thin and will chip easily like most Japanese vehicles. The transmission has a slight hesitation on the first to second upshift when accelerating aggressively. Also it sometimes exhibits a slight "clunk" when stopped. I had an O2 sensor go out under warranty, I have heard that this is a common problem. I have also had the rear window latch break like other people have reported.

So far this has been a great truck (30,000 miles). I haven't had any problems with the brakes or 4 wheel drive system that other people have had. The V8 motor has lots of power and I get 17 mpg with a mix of highway and stop and go driving. I have done some limited towing (5000 lbs.) with no problems. The interior is slightly smaller than the big three, but for a couple of adults and small kids it is fine. I would definetly buy the next generation. I would only hope that they give it a little bigger engine and a manual transmission. Also make a 3/4 ton version.

Strength:

It is a good looking truck. That about sums it up.

Weakness:

As mentioned above, the flaws are definately more in number than the strenghs.

I like most of the people writing a review think that the truck pretty much sucks. I have had my leather seats replaced from excessive cracks. The dash is loose and rattles. The throttle sticks and has been lubed twice. The paint chips easily as well. I have also experienced the rough shifting from 2nd to 3rd.

Strength:

reliable sturdy vehicle

Weakness:

Terrible rotors THEY WILL WARP; you will get a vibration when braking. Dont bother with factor replacement rotors, buy performance slotted/cross drilled rotors and performance brake pads. I guaranty this will eliminate the virberation troubles ASAP. Factory shocked and struts are lame. buy after market (bilstein or fab tech)for a better ride.

Dependable vehicle. Fair amount of power and torque.

Brakes! Even better that Silverado's 4 wheel disk.

Weakness:

No double cab. Yet. Silver paint thin. Chips easily.

All around the best truck I have ever driven (or rode in for that matter)! Nothing else comes close.

Strength:

good suspension, quiet interior, looks nice

Weakness:

Have experienced problems with squeaks in dashboard when traveling over bumps in cold weather, seat belt retensioner, vehicle shaking when backing up at 20-30 mph, transmission not shifting smoothly in 1st and 2nd anymore after transmission oil change. Front bumper experiencing surface rust creaping through from fog light holes. Toyota refuses to pay for bumper replacement under warranty.

Currently owned tundra for little over a year. Use it to travel over 70 miles/day to/from work mostly.

Strength:

Great looking truck. Looks tough. Actually is tough off road, can go pretty much anywhere stock. Low end gearing climbs monster hills.

Weakness:

Poor fuel economy, terrible integrity. See above. Worth maybe $10,000 at best, not $25,000.

Purchased new in 2000. 4x4, TRD, ex-cab, 3.4L motor, etc. etc, fully loaded. One step up from a piece of crap. Aside from being grossly underpowered, the interior falls apart very quickly. Started with just a couple of rattles and squeaks, now has cracks and pops. Biggest problem with mine was the front suspension. First the A-Arm was replaced, then followed by a tie rod end at 36,000 miles. Rediculous. Another tie rod end at 37,000 miles. Engine also makes hissing noise at about 2500 RPM. List goes on and on...really.Advice? Not worth the money.
