TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5
Strength:
Great power, sticks to the road, pulls heavy loads well over steep mtn passes in the northwest, got a great rear view mirror to she the other 3 cheaper trucks as you pass them. Can be super charged by 100 hp.
Weakness:
Blind spots in the rear caused by the rear seat head rests. Best 1/2 ton truck on the market, Dodge is still a Dodge no matter what they do to it, same with Ford, Chevy has a cheap transmission and 4x4 system. Strength:
But it does well off road. My husband and I took it through wood trails without 4wd and it was awesome. The power is mighty. It is pretty roomy. I bought black and thought it would get really hot in the summer, because I've had black vechiles before. But the stering wheel doesn't even get hot, and I park out in direct heat all day five days a week.
Weakness:
The bumper needs to be better designed to pull a boat trailor, and the visors need to have light up mirrors. I love the truck , but I hooked a boat trailor up to the back and now I have two holes in my bumper. I thought I screwed something up, But found another guy i my town with same truck and he has two holes in his bumper, because of the same problem. They need to fix that. Strength:
Great handling and comfort. Rides better than a Cadalliac.
Weakness:
Rear seat back straight and not as comfortable as front. Most comfortable & best running truck I have ever owned. Drove from California to East Texas & back last month. Average speed was 75 with cruise, and still got 17-18 mpg! (The hard shell bed cover helped).I've read where some have had brake problems. I've had no problems. If you want to race and hear noise, buy a Dodge. If you want to be less comfortable, buy a Ford. If you want comfort for the long haul, buy a Toyota Tundra SR-5 V-8. Weakness:
Bad Brakes I like everything about the truck except for the brakes, they shudder. Toyota repaired the both front and rear brakes twice and it did not work. I took the truck to a local shop and they replaced the rotor and pads. The brakes started shuddering after about 5,000 mi. The shop turned the rotors and drums and the it is working now. How long I don't know. This problem is listed as a TSB with Toyota. Toyota should fix this problem. Similar Products Used: Ford F150, Ford Ranger, Old Toyota 2x2 |

Toyota Tundra SR5 2WD V8
Strength:
Great power (pickup), smooth ride, good looking. Gas mileage not too bad for a V8.
Weakness:
Quick on take off, but long distance speed isn't so fast. It will of course suck down the gas if you have a led foot. At this time I really can't say there are any other weaknesses. I use it for personal and luxury driving, no off roading, and moving heavy furniture and such. It serves all of those purposes well. I did get it stuck in someone's front yard once in the grass! They had a slight dipping area in the front yard that I slowly drove accross sort of diagnally thinking it would keep me from scraping the front or rear of my truck. Well, it caused my right rear will to come off of the ground and it just sat and spun. The left rear wheel was in full contact with the ground, but was not recaiving any power to move the truck. I had to place a wooden pallet under the right rear tire to get traction to get out of my little predicament. Is the right side the drive wheel, and doesn't the power transfer to the other wheel in situations like this? I guess this could be a major weakness. Sharp looking truck, car-like ride, great pick up, smooth handling. I love my truck. Has all of the bells and whistles. Nice stereo system. Turns alot of heads. Have had it close to about 120 MPH, although speedometer doesn't go that high. Had someone behind me with faster car sort of clocking me. The Michelin tires are great. Were original equipment and got about 57,000 miles out of them. Right at 36,000 miles, I had an O2 sensor that needed replacement which cost close to $200 parts and labor. About the same time, the belts started squeaking in the morning when I would first start to drive the truck, or after it sat for a while. Sprayed with Belt Spray and solves the problem for a while. Noticed the drivers side seat belt does not like to retract fully sometimes. Is becoming more frequent now. Recently I noticed the front end would shake or vibrate a little when I applied the brakes, and then I noticed a slight mettalic sound while I was driving without the brake being applied. I took it in for a brake inspection and was told the brake pads need to be replaced, and that they were wore down about 75%. The rear brakes were only wore about 25% according to the auto shop. I was quoted $139 + tax for front brake pad replacement. I have about 57,000 miles on my truck, so I guess it is about time to replace the pads. I am a little concerned about the brake issue now that I have read so many other people have had problems with the pads and the rotors. Also, I notice that if I have stopped a little hard, after the truck has stopped for a few seconds I feel a thump from the rear end of my truck. I don't know if it is just the anti-lock brakes releasing or what, but the first time it happened I thought someone bumped into my back bumper. The cab window locks are cheaply made. The latches on both sides have broken. The chrome side step bars are sharp looking, but they have plastic no-slip surfaces that have been starting to pop up. If you step on them, they push back down into the step bar. The window latches and side step bar issues are minor, but when you pay about $30,000 for a vehicle you do expect quality and for it to be durable. Great looking, great working, decent gas milege for a V8 and strong running.
Weakness:
Got rid of the Dunlap rubber after 7000 miles, lousey tires. Use Bridgestone AT now with great success. Best truck on the market. No problems except for the weak seat belt retractors. Smooth as silk to drive and brake, up to 105 mph. Maybe others have run through water puddles after hard braking?? Front brakes has 40000 and replaced. Still on original back brakes at 70000 miles. It's a keeper! Similar Products Used: F150. Friends with GM, Chevy and Dodges are envious. |

nice power and very smooth ride
Weakness:
I needed front brakes at 40,000 mile ,belt tensioner needs help, and the idle control motor is weak I was very happy until recently.at 62,000 miles I took my tundra in for its scheduled maintenence and told the service man that its belts were becomming noisy when starting in the morning he had this problem checked and I was told that the belt tensioner was bad and for 300 it could be fixed, then at 63,000 miles I would stop at stop signs and my tundra would idle very low ,infact it actually stalled 5 times on me till finally it stalled and one of the dash warning lights stayed on telling me to take to dealer.they ran it through tests and said that the idle controll motor was bad and for 442.00 they would fix it .I am mad the reason I bought toyota is so I wound not have these types of problems Similar Products Used: nissan hardbody 4 banger |
