Strength:

This truck is priced to sale. Good lean stance and impressive handling. Interior looks good and feels comfortable. The engine is clean and easy to work on compared to other compact trucks.

Weakness:

Poor gas milage for a basic V6. Acceleration leaves you wanting more...perhaps the S/C edition is better. The body style needs less plastic and more thought.

I was originally looking for a Toyota Tocoma but they were relatively too expensive for my tastes. The Nissan was priced much lower so I thought...why not? So far so good. The truck drives very smooth and handles well. The 4x4 performed poor in the snow (not enough weight in the back) but was strong on the dirt. The engine is a bit loud and underpowered but is smooth and responsive. I don't care much for it's looks because of all the hard plastic yet I do at least feel that the 4x4 has strong stance and is somewhat rugged. The interior is comfortable and not cheap looking. I fairly impressed with it's ergonomics. This is a great little truck that should last many years and miles.

Strength:

Best bang for the buck in my opinion. Nice ride and handling. Gives you plenty of options for loads (people vs cargo).

Weakness:

Gas mileage sucks, but hey...it's a truck with a 5,000 towing capacity. You can't have everything.

Bought the Nissan after some woman totaled my '99 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. After two and a half years and 2 major snow storms I can say that this vehicle does just about everything well. I have the short bed as the long bed wasn't available in '00, but have still managed to bring home 16 foot lengths of molding from Home Depot by using the rear sliding window. My kids fit in the back seat and I still have a truck for work around the house. I love the way it drives, very comfortable seats, nice appearance. I'm on my way to trade it in for a 2003 supercharged crew cab 4x4 today

Strength:

Broad torque band provides good acceleration at all speeds. Very rugged, mechanically strong. 2 ton+ weight is comforting on icy roads. Very solid feel and ride. Comfortable interior and ride.

Weakness:

A couple of the components are a little cheap (sun visors, tail gate latch), but something has to give in order to create competitive pricing. Low gas mileage doesn't bother me as I don't drive that much and always use premium anyway.

Wonderful pickup. Very pleased with the overall quality, drive train performance and handling. I live in snow country and find the Frontier at least as capable as my previous Nissan, a '98 Pathfinder, albeit with the addition of several sandbags in the bed to weight the rear wheels. The part time 4x4 logic took a while to get used to (you have to remember whether the front hubs are engaged for on-the-fly operation over 25 mph). It would be nice to have a front hub indicator light. I didn't particualarly care for the styling at first, but it soon came to grow on me. I now find it muscularly handsome and appreciate the distinction relative to others in its class.

Strength:

Looks good, rides great, and lots of power.

Weakness:

Plastic parts are starting to break everywhere. This includes window latches and sun visors. Engine has some areas that are hard to get to, like the oil filter for one.

I would say this truck is average. But has had it's share of problems. Had to replace the clutch at 119000 but that is normal I think. Also the head lights started blinking on and off problem with the the headlight switch I believe. and the cruise control quit working last year. Also the odometer quits counting every now and then.

Strength:

When it runs it runs well. Original price- 1999 SE 4x4 king cab $18,500

Weakness:

The annoying and constant clunking when taking foot off the gas in 3rd or 4th gear. That cannot be normal- should be alot more smoother. Worrying when the third stranding on the side of the road will happen.

An updated review. Still a pretty decent truck, however I am not that high on the truck anymore. In less than 4 years I have been left stranded twice by this truck. First time- battery literally blew up, hole in the top of the battery and pieces all over the engine. Second- fuel sending unit in tank went out while driving on the highway. This truck only has 68,000 miles. The constant hard clunking and banging is annoying, even had a new drive shaft put in and that did not help. Had the radio replaced, airbag wiring fixed and battery replaced- electrical problem? Who knows but there is no way I should have been left by the side of the road twice in the past 3 1/2 years of owning this truck of easy riding.

Weakness:

everything else including selling dealer

Was nice for about the first week then it started to fall apart. 1# paint on roof cracked and rusting, thin paint on front bumper, been repainted several times 2# numerous parts in fuel system replaced 3# faulty braking system, front calipers, pads and abs unit replaced brakes still don't function properly 4# resistor for heater fan went out 5# broken washer in passenger seat 6# horn replaced 7# license plate light wiring went bad, replaced 8# front suspension bushing falling off replaced That is just a sample of some of the problems I have had within the first year I have owned this vehicle. Traded a 1996 nissan pick up that lasted 170000 miles with no troubles for this fall apart special

A little slow off the line but it's a compact truck, not a sports car.

Best truck for the money, bar none. Great ride, very comfortable. Traded in a GMC Sierra for it with absolutely no regrets. This is my 4th Nissan, (2nd 4wd truck) and it will not be my last.

Strength:

Great gas mileage (29 highway!) Super styling Useful cargo hooks in the bed Shifts like a dream.

Weakness:

Power is a little weak (reasonable considering its a 4 cylinder).

Terrific truck for the money! Researched the Toyota, but the price was too high for the same-type truck. The Frontier gets great gas mileage and can seat 4 in a pinch. I receive lots of "nice truck" comments. The Nissan is a pleasure to drive.
