SE V6 Desert Runner
Strength:
Excellent flashy styling, Handles great, Bed Liner is a really nice touch.
Weakness:
When it comes to power this is not your Fathers truck, I bought the V6 hoping that I would get a little pep in the Engine...WRONG!!!!. As nice a truck as it is the engine has such low output, I often wonder if there is something wrong. The Brakes are very sticky and Hard, not to mention the slippyest Brake Pedals if you have wet shoes on I have ever experienced. If you are looking for room this Truck also lacks that. I am not tall 5.9" but my head is only 2" from the roof and I cannot get the seat right, Either Iam too far away or way to close. The adjustable steering is too stiff, no happy medium in positioning it. The seats are a little hard and nothing fancy. The Transmission is rough and definitly not a smooth shifter even on my automatic. As far as Gas Mileage goes, You would think with the lack of power it has the mileage would be pretty good unfortunatly for as sluggish as it is, it sure sucks up the fuel. Great Looking Truck to drive around in, however as a person who likes the feel of a solid vehicle, had I driven this for a week before I bought it, I probably would not have. The initial Test Drive it felt good but now that I have a few hundred miles on it ( No problems ) I realize that even with the stylish looks, the designers really scrimpped on the important stuff. Brakes, Power and Shifting. I wonder it they should not recall all the Frontiers and have the brakes looked at. The just don't feel safe. Similar Products Used: Toyata Tacoma |

Very reliable. Has been an incredibly cheap vehicle to own. Gets 27 miles to the gallon on the highway, and has pretty good power for the 4 cylinder. I pull a 16 foot fishing boat with it no problem.
Weakness:
My complaints are not the pickups fault. It is 2x4, regular cab, no power steering, no cruise control. Pretty basic vehicle. I finally wanted more pickup so i bought the newer, bigger Nissan with more features. Hopefully, many years from now i will be able to say the same thing for my newer Nissan pickup. I have owned this vehicle since it was new. It is a 1986.5 and was one of the first Hardbody's that i ever saw. (It was made in the first 3 months of production of this model)I loved the body style and had to have it. It has been an awesome pickup. The only mechanical problem was some sort of sensor that caused some acceleration problems. The pickup had 100,000 miles on it when that happened and the repair bill was under $200. Other than that i have only replaced normal wear and tear items like tires, belts etc. Hard to believe that it was the first year that they made that model, and it has no flaws. This pickup has always sat outside and has always started (winters are cold in SD), and has only recently started to rust a little on the bottom of the doors. I love the Hardbody body style, and recently bought a 1995 extended cab 4.4 v6 as a testimony. I am giving my old 1986.5 truck to my father, because i want to keep it in the family. I actually can say that half the people i know have told me to let them know when i sell it as they would like to buy it. Similar Products Used: None. |

Rides smooth. Not like a truck at all. Looks good.
Weakness:
Rides too smooth. I miss the "truck feel" of driving a 4X4. The bed space is limited. I love this truck. I take it off road with no problem at all. Similar Products Used: Ford Ranger. The quality of the Nissan is much better. |

Frontier 4x4 Xcab
Strength:
Great truck so far. I finally got the nerve to take it off road and was pleased to see that it can go more places than the full size trucks I was with. Handles better than any other 4x4 I’ve ever been in. I love the look, inside and out. It’s easy to keep clean. And for people who like to take things apart like for stereo upgrades it is a God send. Plenty of room under the dash for as much re-wiring, as you need and the whole interior comes out with 1 socket and two different Philips screwdrivers. The best option was the bed extender that came with the truck. I use it all the time and will have to have one in every truck I ever own.
Weakness:
I’m hard to please so I might make this sound worse than it really is. The first problem I had was a squeaky power window, no big deal right; I got it replaced at the Dealer… still squeaks. I like to cruse at around 70 or 80 on the highway and with this truck anything past 80 is just not good (OH you do it too). The auto trans is really sluggish in changing gears with a full bed. If you change your own oil you have to first remove 6 bolts on the skid plate to get to the oil filter (other 4x4’s have better placement of their oil filter or a hinged skid plate for easier access). The best stereo head unit is nice but the speakers and so-called “sub woofer” is a joke, but here is the good thing. A single 400 watt 10’ sub and box slides right behind the seat and a set of Diamond Audio M-3 mids and highs fit great under the door skin with just a enough room under the arm rest for your crossover. The sunroof doesn’t leak but it does squeak so quality sounds are a must. Gas mileage is not the greatest but who ever heard of a 4x4 with good gas mileage (Toyota’s excluded). After a few modifications to the stereo and some new wheels I still spent less than I would have somewhere else. It just turned 15,000 miles and I have had no real problems with the truck so far. It runs great looks good and now sounds good. Girls like it because it doesn’t look like a red neck 4x4 and I like it because I still get to play in the mud. I’m very glad I purchased my Frontier, don’t get me wrong I still like Toyota but Nissan has got them beat in my opinion. Nissan made my money go a lot further. Similar Products Used: My last truck was a 96' Toyota 4x4, It had more room and better gas mileage but when I went to go buy a new Toyota I was saddened to see that nothing had changed much but the price. It still road rough, stereo sucked, The fan on the motor made it sound like a jet engine taking off at every stoplight. The Frontier handled better looked better was more comfortable and came with a lot of extras for a cheaper price. |

This truck just wont die! OK power for a little beater. Decent gas mileage.
Weakness:
Interior comfort. Handling is poor(at speed).Suspension squeeks pretty badly. I hated this truck when my girlfriend(now wife) bought it. It has now grown on me after all Ive put it through and believe me when I say, it has been through alot! Camping, moving and a lot of "wana be" off-roading and it is still running strong after 130k! A great little beater for anyone who is hard on their vehicle. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
My truck has had ZERO maintainence!! I have over 120K and this thing is still running on the factory spark plugs and factory battery!! Granted it is probably due for a timing belt and a tune up, but it doesn't skip a beat. I have changed the oil about every 4K miles and other than a front set of brake pads and some new tires...that is it. Great take off speed especially with a 5 spd. tranny. Pretty decent gas mileage. It tows better than most full size PU's. Almost drives better under load.
Weakness:
I do have alignment problems...but it is probably because I ride this thing so quick on bad roads. It's all me. I don't know about the newer Frontier, but I am definately sold on Nissan. If nothing else, the engine alone is flawless. It's not as plush as a bigger truck, but I wasn't looking for that. I was looking (and got) dependability, power, and no frills. Also, I believe that it has the biggest bed size in it's class. I have loaded this thing down and the springs just won't pop. By far the best vehicle that I have ever owned. I am presently shopping for a Maxima just to get that Nissan engine quality. Boo Toyota!! Similar Products Used: None needed to compare. Show me a better all around truck and I'll show you a liar!! |

XE-V6 4x2 Crew Cab
Strength:
A lot of truck for the dollar. Rides well, good acceleration, smooth turning. Very much like the fact that A/C and CD player were standard. Plenty of room for my stuff inside and out.
Weakness:
I would like a larger gas tank - max 250 miles out of a tank. Got the window fogging to stop by using the recirc button (has a dehumidifier in it). Not thrilled with the standard material on the seats - I know they will never stain, but uncomfortable in shorts. Seatcovers took care of that. After a couple of months of research I decided on the 2001 Nissan Crew Cab 4x2 Manual transmission. My head decided on the truck, but my heart picked the color - bright yellow! Similar Products Used: I test drove a Dodge Dakota Quad Cab which was OK, but consumer reports gave them a big thumbs down for reliability. Used to drive a '90 Ford Explorer - lots of maintenance there! |

Ride Quality, Excellent, better than most cars. Engine and five speed are outstanding. I love the way this truck looks.
Weakness:
How can you build a truck this good and then put that "YUGO" quality bench seat in it. Steering wanders and crosswinds will knock you into the the next state. I have had this truck two years and 23,000 miles and love it. Funny thing is, I did not want it buy it but it was all I could afford. For 12,000 mine came with a bedliner, sliding rear glass, cruise, and very nice floormats. Was going to get rid of it but not now. I am hooked on Nissan.Just get rid of that awful bench seat.
