Nissan Frontier SC-CC
Strength:
Great looks, and pretty smooth ride. The leather seats are a great touch-front is comfortable and the rear is ok. I actually had car seat in the middle and two 5'5 women in the rear and they were quite comfortable.
Weakness:
-Hard to find the SC-CC; most dealers don't have any on the lots. Overall, I am very satified with my purchase. It took awhile to actually get the truck but its well worth the wait for SC-CC. I looked at the Toyota Tacoma (double cab) and the looks werent as aggressive and "in your face" as the Frontier; price was a little hard to digest. Similar Products Used: None |

King Cab 4x4 Frontier
Strength:
Great suspension. Rides like you are on a cloud. Great 4x4 capability. Great value for $$$
Weakness:
Compared to other compact trucks - nothing! Stereo could be better, but what factory truck stereo is ever good anyway? $21,500 for a loaded King Cab 4x4. Highly recommended. The truck will go anywhere and can be used for more than just "light offroading" like a lot of SUVs and other compacts. Comes with a shield package underneath. Rides very smooth and quiet on the highway. Wind noise is kept to a minimum. Gets 90% of it's torque at about 1500 rpms which is good! All in all, the PERECT combination of a commuter vehicle and off-road vehicle. It does both very well! Similar Products Used: Chevy S-10. My 4.3 S-10 was much quicker, but the Frontier rides a lot better. |

Frontier 4x4 King Cab
Strength:
Great value (Under $15000 for a semi-loaded car). Tonkin Nissan was great with price, customer service, and ease of buying. This is my first car, and learning to drive a manual with the forgiving transmission of the Frontier was a dream come true. The power is acceptable, although I would like to see a Frontier with the new 230hp Pathfinder engine in it. The truck handles well offroad in 4-low, and has plenty of torque for handling moderate stuff without any offroad specialization. The interior is spacious enough for me, and I'm glad it retains the compact pickup style.
Weakness:
The lack of aftermarket products (especially for offroad use) is disturbing. There is no room to add any substantial sound equipment. I've also heard that larger tires don't work with the suspension. Is this true? I also get some brake fluid on the front wheels, so I need to wash them at least every two weeks. No huge weaknesses, though. The car is great on the road, and handles decently off of the road. Sporty style, great price. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a relatively low-maintainence truck with multi-purpose abilities. It's not a speed demon, but its got enough power to get by and I've been able to beat a few little sporty sedans off the line. If you live in (or near) Portland and want a Frontier, go out to Tonkin. They were great with every aspect of buying the truck! Similar Products Used: 1992 Toyota Deluxe 4x4 V6. I like that the small 4 has more power than the old Toyota. The truck feels like it has the same quality as the Toyota (that truck had almost 200K on it before it was stolen) I'm hoping my Frontier will last as long. |

Desert Runner 4x4 v6
Strength:
The durability of this Nissan is beyond me, it's pushing 200,000 miles and has only required general maintenance (i.e. oil changes, filters). This has been the most durable and reliable vehicle I have ever owned and it has never failed me yet. The A/C is still frigid and has never been charged.
Weakness:
The V6 has little power and it goes through tires like a fish goes through water. It rides like a lumber wagon, but what do you expect from a small 4x4 with primitive suspension. I think anyone would be happy with a Nissan, they are reliable and durable. Just hope that you don't have to deal with sales staff like I did. You just might go from being a diehard Nissan person to a Toyota believer. OH What a Feeling! Toyota!! Similar Products Used: I just bought a 2001 Toyota Tacoma Xtra-Cab 4x4 V6. I wanted to buy the 2001 supercharged Nissan, but when I drove it for a couple of days I was not impressed at all. It was slower than the Toyota, had low profile tires on 17 in wheels??? (maybe works on a lowrider) It just seemed more like a car more than a 4x4 pick-up. I was still going to buy it, but the sales staff at ever dealership wouldn't work with me on anything and wouldn't budge on their prices. They told me to try getting into a Toyota for what I was offering them then I would know what arrogant prices were. So I did what they said and went to the Toyota dealership made them my offer and they said no problem. I drove back to the Nissan dealership and the salesman was not happy, neither was his manager. The Nissan place wanted $2000 more for a bare 5spd. supercharged than what I paid for the automatic v6 SR5 with ABS and power everything. I |

Nissan Frontier XE 4x4
Strength:
I purchased XE extented cab 4X4 within the first two months of introduction, because of the stance and styling. It is fun to drive and has adequate power for the flatlands of Houston. It will cruise with Houston Interstate traffic ok, but could use more power for merging into traffic. The ride is smoother than my old Cutlass Callais. It has 42,000 miles and gets 20 miles to the gallon whether I am driving in stop and go trafic or interstate highway. I like the size of the box and haling capacity. I was going to buy a Tacoma but had sticker shock when I say the price of the 4X$. This Frontier was way less money to buy and has been a more reliable than any other new vehicle that I have owned.
Weakness:
Gas tank is too small which means find a gas station every 200 to 260 miles. This is a little scary if you are driving cross country late at night. It is best to never get below 3/8 tank. The cruise control on off switch is on the dashboard in a difficult place to find. It needs to be on the wheel. The CD player broke on the first CD. It took the dealer 2 months to get a replacement(Poor dealer support). Seat belt retractor on driver side would only partically retract. The dealer always reported it was working ok when they checked it. About 50% of the shifts from 2 to 3rd (5 Speed Manual) would kick back and shift roughly. Dealer always said it was fine. The air conditioning never will cool the cab in Houston when the temperature is above 90 degrees unless it was on recirculate. It didn't have gas cap holder (which was shown in the manual as standard) and rear bed light. All of these plus a V6 have been corrected on 2000 and newer Frontiers. If the dealer had good service I would say this is the best value that I have had in a vehicle. I may buy another with the 4 door and short bed. All of my complaints that make me unhappy are with an unresponsive dealer service department. In the past two weeks I finally called the service manager and he has gotten involved. I feel like the service manager may really care, and not have been aware of all the problems. I with I had compained sooner. It has been a frustrating 3 years. I would rate the Frontier 4 stars and think most of my problems are because it was first of the production vehicles and the dealer 1 Star. Maybe they will improve. Similar Products Used: I drove S10 and Ranger. The 4X4 frontier road as well and drove comparably. |

Frontier 4x4 King Cab XE
Strength:
Size, fit and trim, alot nicer interior then the old hardbodies
Weakness:
BIG plastic wheel flares, which on the older Frontiers are Black Fade. Love the truck. Just bought mine, and it runns smoother then my 1997 Hardbody. The ride is car like and for a four Clynder it has plenty of power. Living in a very high altitude and one that you must climb high mountian passes, this truck is great. My 1997 used to die on the hills and I just got rid of a 1982 Datsun 4x4 720 pickup, if it even saw a hill it would slow down.
