Strength:

RELIABLE! We've had this thing for 190 000 km and there has been nothing wrong with the engine! It just keeps on ticking! Light rear end makes it fun in the snow

Weakness:

NOT ENOUGH POWER! Small cab also.

I would recommend it to someone who just wants a realiable, cheap daily driver with the (small) capability to tow and hold things.

Strength:

This truck has a lot of power with the new 4 liter motor. The 4 doors are very useful. Mazda gives a great warranty (3 yrs/ 50,000 miles). This truck is very well built and I think that the Mazda body is the best looking of all the small trucks. Mazda has much better pricing that Ford for the same truck and has a long list of standard equipment (trailer hitch, power windows and locks, limited slip rear differential). In fact, the only option package has a rear sliding window and a bed liner.

Weakness:

Mazda does not offer bucket seats in the 2001 model trucks. Automatic transmission is a little noisy.

I highly recommend Mazda trucks. This is my second and I am very impressed with how they are built, how they perform, and their reliability. With the new 4L engine the truck runs very well, lots of power and torque for pulling. Mazda has a better warranty than the Ford. The Mazda has more features, lower cost, look better, and has similar quality ratings than the Toyota Tacoma. I looked hard a getting a bigger truck (i.e. Tundra or the F-150) but I decided that the Mazda fit what I needed better. I have plenty of friends and family with big trucks that never get used to a 10th of their capacity. Definitely consider Mazda if you are in the market for a pickup truck.

1994 Mazda B4000 4x4 - loved it but a drunk driver decided they did not like hit and killed it, so I went with the newer version of the same truck.
2000 Chevy Silverado ext. cab 4x4 - had this truck for 2 months while insurance was paying for it. Chevy needs some help with quality control, way too many things were wrong for a truck with only 12,000 miles.
2000 Toyota Tundra - Great truck but similarly equipped is about $7,000 more than the Mazda and I did not think that it was that much better.

Strength:

It is a very cheap truck to run and maintain. It is extremly reliable and almost trouble free. They also look good for an old truck and run even better.

Weakness:

The only weakness I think this truck has is that it doesn't toe a trailer to well. But for a 4 banger it is pretty good

I would recomend one these trucks for a first car/truck owner. They are very reliable and very forgiving. They are also cheap on insurance. The only problem I had with it was the EGR valve got stuck open, but a little cleaning took care of that problem. That is the problem I'v had and I bought it used for $350 and had it certified for less $700 including plate stickers and th cost of the safty

IT is actually a good off road truck.... I have some giant yokohama geolander at+ tires on it. You need big tires on this truck. It looks nice its got lots of torque for those big hils but the accelration is not that great.

Weakness:

accell sucks, bad on gas and worse in 4x4. everything else is great.

good quality, good service.... last a long time, no problems. Great on and off road, the engine sounds great and it is durable to anyones driving style. The truck is very nice, interior is okay but could be deigned a little better. I have gone through some deep water, river beds, mud and over some large rocks. Might want to add some skid plates to compete with toyota tacoma. Factory tires suck, buy yokohama and not recalled firestones.

Strength:

I love these trucks because you really only have to change the oil, and put gas in them. The 2200 is underpowered, but is still a great truck. The extended cab rocks also. My truck just turned 81k . Since this is nov, 2000. this truck had to sit for a WHILE. I replaced the hoses and belts and ran some higher octane gas thru it, it's like new. If only the paint looked good....

Weakness:

Underpowered, especially fot the extra cab/2200. I would hate to see how a b2000 accelerates.

Look around and notice how many of these trucks are still on the road. End of story, they are as good as a toyota, without the toyota price.

Better than anything American made, sadly. I would not get a ranger if they had them for half price.

Gtreat truck, cheap on gas, comfortable to ride in,255,000kms and still lots of life left. Good for lowering cause of stock torsion bars

Weakness:

Known for cracked heads and had to change mine, under powered

These trucks don't die, they'll take a beating and keep right on going. I wouldn't trade it for an s-10 or ranger for nothing. My truck has 255,000 kms changed the head put in a performance cam, headers and a webber carb and it's goes like crazy. I'll have this truck long after all the new trucks are in there graves.

Strength:

Economical, dependable, and practicle. I bought a 1990 B2200 with 22,000 miles in 1993 (now has 149,000). This truck has been through my undergraduate/graduate education and countless trips in Minnesota, Wiconsin, Montana, Dakota's, Arizona, etc. Year after year it has been dependandable and other than tuneups and basic maintenance (exhaust and brakes) all that I have replaced is a u-joint (easy driveshaft replacement) and a cam belt. This past summer the truck was stranded in a flood and water completely covered the motor. Believe it or not, I drained all the fluids, dried the truck out, replaced the fluids and cleaned the carb., and it is running as close to normal as possible.

Weakness:

Ocassionally, the left turn signal shorts out, but it eventually corrects itself. Also, on cold mornings the engine will knock or ping when first started, however the noise does not last long.

The history of the truck speaks volumes for the engineering. Any vehicle that continues to run after being submerged to above engine level in water with a high degree of silt says something. Most cars would be considered "totalled". I already have my eye on a B2500 and only hope that the Ford engineers have managed not to tamper with a well built product too much.

Strength:

Good looking truck
very comfortable seats, great on long trips
Excellent interior package
Very reliable
Great to drive!
good pulling power
Low interior noise level
Nice instrument panel
A hidden bonus is that, Ford Ranger drive line and suspension are the same, parts - no problem!

Weakness:

exhaust heat sheilds started to fall off after 2 years
radiator leaks at the cheap plastic end caps in extremely cold temps (-40C)rear brakes have always grabbed in wet weather.
Product support! a stud that mounts the park light broke, service center said it was not covered under warrenty because it was a sealed beam, this was a load of crap as the bulb was not covered but this was the light housing itself, not the bulb, I was told the stud could not be replaced as it was molded into the housing, the replacement was $65.00 when I replaced it, the studs unscrewed, I could have fixed it with a screw.

Over all this is a very good vehicle. the extended warrenty has expired, so I will install an after market rad (all metal) and exhaust system, I will look into the brakes myself and avoid the hassle of the service department and their crap. The only problems I have experienced are listed above. The paint and interior is holding up very well, no signs of rust. I think it was a very good choice. I have had it 6 years and believe I can get another 6 years out of it easily. but as you can tell, I am not very happy with the product support. My ratings are based on the vehicle itself and would recommend it. Other reviews indicate that product support was good to excellent, perhaps, mine was an isolated case.

Dependable,Dependable,Dependable, It starts when I turn the key and runs till I shut it off I liked that it was cheaper than all the rest and came with more stuff 5 spd. instead of 4 and carpeting

Weakness:

its a little small, and after 294,000 miles my 240 lb. butt is starting to wear the seat out.

I bought this truck new in 1990 and it has only been in the shop for (very) minor work. I just put a radiator in it at 294,000 mi. and a U-joint at about 180,000 that was major for me. There is a lifter or something that makes noise when it has been sitting for a day or two or when it is very cold, but after warmup it quiets. This motor has not been rebuilt and it is still pretty strong. It does burn alot of oil these days though. I would think nothing of hopping in and driving over the Sierras anytime. It will go all day @ 80mph with A/C full on if you can stand the chill. - Best money ever spent on a vehicle.
