Strength:
Good value for the money spent on it. If you can stick to a regular maintainance schedule, it will serve you well.
Weakness:
A bit pricey, if you go with factory service and genuine parts. All the major problems occured after the warrenties expired. Very dependable. Still going strong in a somewhat harsh, tropical environment. Although I haven't put too many miles on it, they have been extreme. A lot of off-road driving, through lava fields, rocky pastures and steep mountainous terrain. Just keep changing the oil and rotate the tires, and it'll go forever. One thing to watch out for a tsb (technical service bulletin) on the 4X4 indicator switch. This causes the front axle to engage while you're driving. |

None. I owned a Mazda when they used to be a real mazda and know that they are a Ford they have gone down hill
Weakness:
Tranny after 24000, head gasket after 31000, Rear drum brake froze. and the CD player stoped working at 36,500. Very disapointed. I wish Mazda would make their own trucks Similar Products Used: Anything that is not a Mazda |

Weakness:
This truck has had nothing bur problems from day one. The emergency brake was installed incorectly from the factory which caused premature wear on my brakes. Due to the fact these are deemed wearable items, they are not covered under warranty. I have 57000km on this truck and have returned it to be seviced 6 times for the same problem. My warranty has almost expired and my time is running out. If you are considering buying a B-series truck, I would definitly look at something else. Pay the extra money upfront for a more reputable truck. There is a reason why they are one of the lowest priced trucks in its class. I won't buy from Mazda again due to the poor customer service, lack of knowlegde on repair of their own product and overall reliablity of the truck. Strength:
reliability, runs for ever, very tough- has survived an old woman in a caddy at 35mph, just got a dent in the fender, survived sliding into a curb at 40mph, just bent the axel a little and the truck has survived ME, i am very hard on cars.
Weakness:
not enuff power, 5 gear is kinda useless, not much after market stuff I LOVE MY MAZDA! I would recomend a 1986-1993 Mazda B-series truck to anyone. The truck always starts no problem. Has a rough idle? Similar Products Used: um, well, any other mini-truck |

This was the first new car I ever bought. It came with a lot of options for the money. It has a very nice interior (like a car), and while it does not have a great towing capacity, I have found it fine for just hauling stuff and the like. Other than the transmission (see weaknesses,) this truck has been pretty reliable. We also owned a Chevy Blazer that turned out to be a PIECE OF GARBAGE compared to this dependable little truck (ended up trading in the Blazer for a 1990 Miata!)
Weakness:
This truck has a 5 spd. manual, which needed to be replaced after 70,000 miles due to a faulty bearing. Also, the automatic choke went out after about 140,000 (it has been replace with a manual choke which is not working well.) Otherwise, all other repairs have been in line with a truck of this age and use level. The body has started rusting pretty badly, but I have owned the truck for 14years and not kept it in a garage, so I guess this is to be expected. I am ready to replace this truck and am strongly considering another Mazda. I like Mazda's styling, value and reliability. Similar Products Used: Ford Ranger |

very relible, easy to work on and customize, doesn't dent easily
Weakness:
very bad quality of paint(stock),tailgate handle breaks easily My father and I purchased the truck in 94 as a small comuter vehicle that got good milage. he is in the navy and we lived in lousiana at the time and he transferred to San Diego for 2 years. He drove the truck out there and 2 years later drove it back. When he got back we replaced the bed, tailgate and handle(of couse),shaved all decals, and preped it for painting. The truck will soon be mine. We changed the sterio and speakers. And by the way, those parts are very tough to find at junk yards. The truck is about 55% junkyard parts but they work fine and look good. This coming summer we are going to rebuild the engine that has 180,000 miles, add a header and and 2.50 in muffler, homemade ram air , and new carborater. I am plenty satisfied with my mazda and would recommend one to anyboby. Similar Products Used: nothin |

Great gas mileage. Runs great, just a fun to drive, 5 spd is smooth and the 2 liter does what it is supposed too. Hauls everything I want.

Aluminum head and cast block..............have replaced 2 head gaskets in the last 12 years. The 4 cylinder just does what it was made to do, and do well. Similar Products Used: chevy luv, ford courier. wouldn't trade for either one! |

Dependable, Never let me down. Had the B2200 (1987) for 256,000 miles no problems with proper manitance. B4000 excellent in snow, rain, hwy, fields, nice stero, airtight, excellent truck. even looks good, women love it. I put Bosch plugs in it and can use lower grade gas, I prefer midgrade.
Weakness:
I do wish the gas mileage was better on B4000, Mid console keeps working lose. I bought my first Mazda truck in 1987. I got a 87 B2200 SE5 4X2. It had 10 miles on it. When I sold it, there was 256,000 miles on it. I changed oil every 4,000 miles changed filters, plugs, and usual maintance items per manual. Never a problem. I had the cab-plus which worked well with my 2 small kids at that time. I already miss the Silver Fox. Similar Products Used: Chevy S-10 like comparing a Ford Pinto to a Camaro Z-28. Strength:
Excellent ride and great handling. Adequate power. Very comfortable seats. Good interior room for the model.
Weakness:
Doesn't like temperature below -15 C. Works OK if plugged in. Minor cosmetic oddities...(Door trim, a few poor welds, non-galvanized screws). I think better milage could be obtained with an engine refinement. I currently have no regrets leasing this vehicle. I hope it is as reliable as I've read although I'd highly recommend getting it rust proofed if you live in northern climates....I think the paint job in the engine compartment is a little half assed.
