B4000 ext cab SE 4X4
Strength:
Dependability, comfort, still looks good and makes me happy. Great bargin if you keep it.
Weakness:
Wish it came in 4 full size door models (Crew Cab) like Dodge. I bought this truck new in Jan of 1995. I've driven it to California, Virginia, and most places in between but I still only have 68000 miles on it. I have the 5 spd manuel trans and it has been flawless as has the rest of the truck. I just replaced the ORIGINAL batterey in it 3 weeks ago. Last summer I had to replace the altinator and shocks but that's been all I've done other than regular oil and filter changes. BTW I've used Mobile 1 fully synthetic (green label) for the last 30000 miles. I have gotten 20.5 on the interstate with this oil! I average the same as most others with the 4.0L ford engine locally. I was offered $9500 last summer and almost took it but this vehicle has the record of my ownership. Most others get sold every few years. I'd let this one go in a sec for another with Crew Cab 4 doors (ie Dodge). Similar Products Used: GMC and Chev full size trucks, Ford F150, |

Strength:
Good off-roader. Dual Rear Doors.
Weakness:
Wear do I begin. 4 Saftey recalls, tires twice (Firestone), Cruise Control, Windshield Wipers. Bad on road handling though I must admit replacing the Firestones with Michelin's helped. Gas Guzzler. Worst of all, vehicle, which was purchased new spent an entire month in the service center it's first year because of bad electronics. The dealer refused to replace the module because it would cost over $1,000. After 3 returns to the dealer, they finally fixed the problem (battery would go dead if the engine wasn't run every day). This is a re-badged Ford Ranger. I'd pass on both these vechiles in the future. If you want a new truck, look elsewhere. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
it is fast and it would look good
Weakness:
it constantly breaks down, injectors, axles, clutch, exhaust, whatever else I would not reccomend getting this car unless it had no rust and get it for cheap, and it doesn't have more than 130,000 on it. Similar Products Used: I havn't had a previous foreign car |

Strength:
Nice looking, very comfortable ride, great heating system, good gas mileage.
Weakness:
The only problem with this older model truck is the difficulty reaching into the back of the extended cab - but then I am only 5'2". I have owned this vehicle for a few years now and can honestly say it has been a low-maintance rig. No problems at all. Living in Alaska we have really put this little truck to the test and it has never failed us. I highly recommend this truck. Similar Products Used: None |

Always starts no matter how cold. Reliable truck. Extended cab helps with hauling our children around. Good truck for those trips to Home Depot. Some pain in the #@% repairs, but nothing huge. Overall low maintenance.
Weakness:
I'm amazed at some of the other reviewer's reported gas mileage. Although most of my driving has been in the city, since I've owned the truck (4 yrs) I'm lucky if I've averaged 17 mpg in the city and 22 on the highway. Currently having a lot of grief with my valve lifters (currently at 90,000 miles total). Planning on changing them out within the next few weeks. Only other problem I had was with the catalytic converter being plugged and the engine seriously lagging as a result. Just cut it out and my "power" came back. As a second vehicle I am not disappointed in the truck overall performance. Reliable with relatively low maintenance. Reason I bought a mini-truck was for better city gas mileage, which I have never seen. Otherwise I would recommend. Similar Products Used: None. |

Good size, dependable. Tough Truck: Had a serious front end collision and walked away without a scratch.
Weakness:
4 cyl a little underpowered. Regular cab a little cramped. If you get in a wreck, body parts are expensive. This was a very reliable and well built vehicle. I put over 80k miles without a major mechanical problem. Didn't even need brakes while I had it. I traded it because of the regular cab and 4cyl engine. I experimented with a Dodge, but just went back to a Mazda: a 2000 B3000 ext cab 4x4. So far, so good and that one. Will review it when I have had it a while. Similar Products Used: 2000 Dodge Dakota Club Cab. Dodge has more room and more power. The Dodge doesn't seem to be as well built. 1 year and 20k miles in the shop 3 times. |

Mazda B 5 spd. reg. cab
Strength:
I like my Mazda because it won't die. I bought the truck with 200,000 miles on it and have put on another 25,000. It burned a little oil, so I put new rings in it and that fixed the problem until a water line burst and it overheated. Other than that it has been a perfect truck. I put a pace setter header on it and eliminated most of the hoses on the carb. It runs like a million bucks. I can load the box up and pull a boat on a trailer with very little problem. I even drove it down to Colorado this summer, over a 1,500 mile round trip, with no worries and no problems. Perfect truck for a teenager that needs cheap reliable transportation. I love this truck.
Weakness:
The only weakness that I have encountered was a water line design that I think is bad. There is a water line that runs under the intake that is a free floating metal pipe that has three rubber lines coming off of it. One to the intake, one to the thermostat housing, and one to the back of the motor and around to the water pump. One of these lines burst and caused my truck to overheat and start to burn oil again. I have owned my Mazda for three years and have not had many major problems with it. The majority of the money that I have put into my truck has been for gas, even though it gets 25+ mpg. When I drove to Colorado it got 32 mpg. Similar Products Used: Compared to a ranger or s-10, my Mazda beats them hands down in reliability and msot important price. |
