THE 1989 MAZDA B2200 IS AN OUTSTANDING TRUCK!!! MY GRANDFATHER GAVE IT TO ME WHEN I TURNED 15, IT THEN HAD 86,000 MILES IN 1995.(HE PAID $10,000 BRAND NEW IN 1989.) IN THE YEAR 2001, IT HAS 154,000 MILES. MY FATHER DOES REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND TUNE-UPS. I JUST PURCHASED A 1992 TOYATA V6 4X4 EXTENDED CAB, AND I HOPE THAT IT GIVES ME THE SAME DEPENDABILITY AS MY MAZDA. OH YEAH, I STILL GET A LITTLE BETTER THAN 26 MILES PER GALLON.

Weakness:

NOT ENOUGH PICK-SPEED AND ITS SLOWER THAN CHRISTMAS!!! THE PAINT SUCKS AND HAS SUNSPOTS ON THE HOOD AND ROOF. IF YOU EVER BUY ONE, PARK IT IN YOUR GARAGE. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WITH IT WAS THE THERMOSTAT BLEW OPEN AND IT OVERHEATED ON ME ON MY WAY BACK FROM PORT ARANSAS, TEXAS. AFTER I HAD THE COOLING SYSTEM SERVICED IT HAS SINCE RUN STRONG.

WOULD RECCOMEND IT TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A DECENT VEHICLE AT A GOOD PRICE. WHEN (IF) I SELL MINE, I WILL ONLY ASK $1500-2000, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MILEAGE AND CRAPPY PAINT JOB. IF YOU DECIDE TO BUY ONE, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC LOOK AT IT FIRST AND ASK TO SEE ALL SERVICE RECORDS SO YOU DON'T MAKE ME LOOK LIKE AN ASS.

This is one fine truck. Never any problems and never had a let down

Weakness:

None really maybe gas could be cheaper but thats not the trucks fault.
at least it isnt a V8 gas gobbling toliet like some other trucks out there

Reason i got the Mazda was price and service . MAzda service centers are the best in the North American continent. Also the truck has to be the most relieable vehicle i have ever owned ...and i have had lots of cars and trucks over the years

best rating on this baby

Nice truck very reliable.
havent had a problem yet...knock on wood

Weakness:

Nope none ..this is a truck and it does what it i tell it to

Great truck looks nice (Dodge look's nicer) But this truck is by far a better designed and built truck ( Thanks to Ford) and has less problems then Dodge as well its gas mileage is way better then some of the others.
Ford has alway built the best trucks and the Ford truck Badged with Mazda just prove's the point.
If yer looking for a nice small size truck that very very reliable and decent on gas this is the truck for you

And one more thing MAzda Service can not be beat (Best service ever)

This is a ford with a different badge. But it does look alittle different. Great perfomance always runs never any problems . Very very reliable.

Weakness:

Lets see mileage could always be better since gas is
.70 cents a litre But aleast it has ok gas milage for a 6cyl
unlike some poor souls with a gas sucking V8 example
( Dodge Dakota hahaha)

Well it came down to price, warranty, reliablity and well MAzda (ford) seems to win hands down
You wont go wrong in this truck does what its supposed to do very well. Im very happy with this 4X4
Will buy Mazda again ...wife like the maita maybe this september she can have one

Have fun all

I love this truck. It is the first truck I have ever owned and love it. When I first got it the transmition was shot, but I replaced the bearings for $250 and it runs great. Original paint and rims and still looks really good. Never had a problem starting and have never been stranded.

Weakness:

not to many after market products

I would get another one in a second. Insurance is cheap and really good gas milage.

Strength:

Extreme reliabity, good gas mileage, quality of the parts that went into the truck.

Weakness:

The engine is a little underpowered, and the tailgate release seems to break easily.

I have owned this truck for almost 12 years and have never had a breakdown on the road. The only parts I have replaced other than normal maintenance items has been a waterpump last year. The original battery lasted a little over 10 years. I recently rolled over 205000 miles and I still get between 29 and 31 mpg. The engine is starting to smoke when I start but clears up withing a couple of minutes, a mechanic suggested it was loose valve guides. But with that many miles I can live with it. I couldn't be happier with this vehicule but the mileage is getting up there. Would think of getting another new truck but now that Ford has taken Mazda over I have second thoughts.

Model Reviewed: B2200 Cab Plus

Strength:

Reliability. Regular oil changes, new shocks, new tires, several thermostat changes, belt changes, and a valve cover gasket is the only service this truck has seen. It has 131,00 miles on it. I'm about to have the radiator re-worked and replace the timing belt and put another valve cover gasket on it. The a/c and heater still work great. Gas mileage is still good 22/city and 25/hwy. Doesn't burn a drop of oil. Reliable. Period.

Weakness:

A Mazda parts technician told me the thermostat will stick open every 30K miles and need replacement. He was right. The 4 cyl. engine has no power and this is its greatest weakness.

When I bought this truck new in 1991 I had no idea how great this vehicle would be. The Cab Plus has a been a blessing for hauling small kids and all that junk you normally toss in the backseat. My 5 year doesn't want me to trade it in so he can drive it when he's 16. Its simply a reliable, low maintenance, go anywhere truck. I feel confident it hasn't reached middle age yet. My only complaint is the lack of engine power. I get 1-2 offers for it every month. I'll drive it until it dies.

Strength:

At age 20,and already have owned a Mustang a Van and a 82 Firebird that i still have, this is the best one yet,It's a good little truck to haul my hockey gear, They run forever if you treat them right, and they really look good lowered, I have plans to make this my first lowrider, with custom paint, air ride suspension, and monsterous sound system in the extended cab. It was driven in from California and has no rust on it no where. TREAT THEM RIGHT THE'LL RUN FOREVER !!!

Weakness:

It's a little slow off the start but thats normal for a 4cyl, but once I get going its alright, currently has 128,000 miles on it, it was driven in from California so thats explains the miles a little bit, cant really haul people in the extended part of the cab cause people tell me they feel like a postal package. My check engine light comes on after I hit about 70mph on the interstate, can some one HELP ? And my fan knocks when I am in park or stopped. Is this normal ? And my mazda sucks gas like a 383 stroker on the drag strip, is this normal to ?

Not having to much experience with the product, but listening to my buddy who has a custom built show winning 86'Mazda B-2000 standard cab, they are awesome trucks to customize and look good. And if you treat them right they will run forever. I am going to value rate this a 3 becuase I have only owned it for about 4 days now and still have a long ways to go with it but would buy another one in a heartbeat, I am going to give this a 4 on overall. Down below is a link to show you what a trophy winning Mazda looks like, my buddys truck took him 3 years to complete, and has been in the mini truckin magazine, and has many mods, air ride, custom Dupont paint, shaved door handles...etc. http://www.geocities.com/jdt3210/carofthemonth.html

Strength:

The overall reliability has been awesome. No major problems. No rust and still looks good. People tend to come up to me and ask if I want to sell it , and I say no. Fords influence on Mazda has ruined the new trucks and I would not be able to replace this truck, considering it is the best little truck i have owned.

Weakness:

I feel that this truck should be faster off the line, although highway cruising is good. Mechanically sound, however lacks power pushing a trailer of any weight uphill in reverse.

This truck has been a joy to own. I enjoy driving it in the city or on the highway. It is comfortable and looks good. Mine was undercoated new and has no rust. I would definitely buy another one if the need arose, and its versatility is most appreciated.
