Strength:

Reliable engine rides good weight distribution brakes can tow as much weight as an explorer can

Weakness:

would like a little more horsepower A/c acceleration

Overall this truck is awesome, it tows my 2500 pound trailer just fine with its 83hp 4cyl. Its a 5spd. The brakes are excellent and its weird for a truck but it rides pretty good. The a/c is gone though, and the whole exhaust system is gone so it sounds like a lawn mower. Acceleration is ok what do u expect from 83 horses. The weight distribution on the truck is great! Replaced the tires with some goodyear wranglers with huge tread this is an excellent working truck.

Fair gas mileage. Peppy 2nd and 3rd gears. Bucket seats w/ Troy Lee Designs apholstry make a comfortable ride. The carbon graphite trim adds a very nice touch to the interior. Like the alloy wheels.

Weakness:

Firestone! Need to get some Michellens or some low profile Yokahamas... lol. Rear suspension could use a little more beefieness. Mud flaps scrape the ground with a load of fire wood.

Yep, I''m happy with my purchase. All around reliable, so far smooth running piece of equipment. 4-cyl, but that''s ok, get a little better gas mileage that way. 5-speed; has a little more pep than the standard auto tranny. Very comfortable seating; carbon graphite trim around the door panels and radio trim. Light rearend, so just throw a couple chunks of wood in the back to get a little more grip around bumpy corners.

Model Reviewed: /b3000 SX V6 2X4 regular cab w/payload package

Strength:

I love the look, the seating comfort, and the features for the price. The heavy duty gas charged shocks take rough roads with ease, although traded off for a stiff ride. The V6 is giving me the power/performance that I realistically expected, given that this is a 3200lb full framed, aerodynamicaly inept vehicle. My other choice was a cute Chevy S10 with platinum paint and alloy wheels, but it cost 1000 dollars more, lacked the V6 with its inline 4, lacked interior carpeting, had an inferior sound system, had a terrible and ugly benchseat, compared to my Mazda''s split 60/40 bucket seats, and also, the Chevy sat on the ground like a car, and my Mazda towers over those S10s like a "real" truck should.

Weakness:

The engine is quite rough, and could use some counterbalance shafts (odd for a 6). The engine''s vibrations transmit themselves through the gas pedal, which bothered me at first. If I can find an aftermarket turbocharger kit, it will pump up this engine so that I am happier with its power. I guess engine power and refinement are my only gripe. If the engine were silky smooth like those V6s made by General Motors, it might make me forget about the lackluster 0-60 issue.

I like my Mazda. Being black w/black trim, it looks sharp, and I often get looks. I chose one with a simple ~3/4 ton payload package which lifts it off the ground nicely. Knowing that this is a Ford product, notorious for weak engines, transmissions and electronics, I went with the barebones model sporting the 3liter v6 and 5 speed manual, and no power options, not even air (Ford doesn''t know how to make air reliable either). I chose wisely, since, after 15 months and 25000 miles, all that I have experienced is a burned out bulb in the dash for the headlight switch. Ok, the notorious squeaks and rattles are starting to show, but this is a pickup, and that''s alright with me. Furthermore, the Mazda has a nicer snout and prettier sheet metal (it has a clever flareside look in a fleetside model) than the Ford.

Strength:

Never a reliability problem. Starts and uses 87 octane gasoline. Good road visibility sits high up. Seats are comfortable. Very good crash protection-got rear ended by an Escort with a Nissan Pathfinder behind that and went away unmarked. Great climate control that keeps you warm or cool. Looks good after five years and 85,000 miles no rust at all. Used in snow and salted roads here in PA. Hauled 700 pounds of gravel without effort.

Weakness:

Tune up required platinium high heat tolerence spark plugs. Champion plugs misfired and engine light kept going on. I needed Mazda plugs or high performance type plugs to replace originals. Road noise is excessive but all terrain tires are loud anyway. Gas mileage is not good I use a four liter V-6 option. Had a sensor light blinking on and off but that was due to using poor replacement spark plugs.

Very good value. Runs like a top and keeps running. Hardware is a little flimsy such as cassette tape holder between the seats. I plan on getting a 2001 model. Buy it!

Strength:

Good looks, options and price compared to the Ranger. Mine came with 16" tires very nice, I don''t even believe was an option on the Ranger Edge models.

Weakness:

Is not available with a locking diff, or limited slip which means you will get stuck.

My second compact truck, had a Toyota pickup before this. Love the 4x4 needs limited slip, already stuck in the Texas clay twice. Cheap sheet metal body bends easily off road, and the mudflaps will break off first time you get into it offroad. Other than that very nice truck. No major problems, had a window jitter problem that the shop fixed in a day. Great truck, same as Ranger very reliable. Gas mileage is awful.. Toyota takes the cake in that department.

Weakness:

Check Engine light came on twice for extended lengths of time. Engine would run rough with a loss of power at low throttle positions. Considered bad plugs, gas, fuel injectors, or carbon in engine, since it runs in the city mostly. Ruled out carbon since the power drain at low throttle positions occurred at startup when the engine was cold. Hmmm... Tried a bottle of Wynn's fuel injector cleaner with the next tank of gas. The power problem seemed to be solved immediately, and later that day on a long drive the check engine light went out again. Not sure if that fixed the Check Engine light diagnostic for good, but the noticeable problem is gone. I hope this tip and reasoning helps others going through Check Engine Light hell.

Great vehicle so far (from 24 to 45,000 KM). Few, minor troubles. Back end a little light for winter driving, so add sand/soil bags to weight it down and put on good snow tires. Good for person under 6 feet tall, as it has a smaller interior. Only normal wear-and-tear items needed replacing so far. 45,000KM, 4 years old. City driven mainly.

My GOD does this truck get bad gas milage. 14/17 for me and that is with the tailgate down. Looking to upgrade to a tundra cover in hopes it will help. At a buck seventy a gallon, i can't afford to drive it.

I've been reading reviews on the B4000 4x4 and have to agree with most of the weaknesses in them. Overall, this is a good, dependable vehicle. Like others, I have had the round of recalls: windshield, cruise control. Had a clanking noise in my drivetrain and they replaced the drive shaft. Driver window rattles as it is going up. Haven't had problem one yet with the engine although I did notice that on occasion (maybe 2 to 3 times) the engine will rev high when driving. I heard a buddy with the same year truck say his truck has done this also. Stepping on the break usually corrects the problem for me. Just follow the owners manual for maintainance and it should hold up. Running Mobil 1 and filter and hope to keep this baby for a long time.

I'VE HAD THIS TRUCK SINCE NEW FOR 13 YEARS AND STILL GOING STRONG. IT GIVES ME EXCELLENT GAS MILEAGE AND HAS ONLY BEEN IN THE SHOP ONCE FOR FAULTY COMPUTER GLICHES E.G IDIOT LIGHTS GOING OFF AND ON AND THAT WAS OVER 10 YEARS AGO AND UNDER WARRANTY. I'M ONE HAPPY OWNER AND HAVE HAD NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. VERY DEPENDABLE AND QUALITY MADE BEFORE FORD ACQUIRE IT IN 1994 AND IT HASN'T BEEN THE SAME. MY NEXT TRUCK HAVEN'T DECIDED ON THAT ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE A TRUCK THAT WILL TAKE ME ANYWHERE WITHOUT BREAKING DOWN.

Paint flaking FRONT end of rear wheel wells, seized brake caliper slider, instrument lights seem to burn out a lot, erg valve senors screwed up, mileage not that great, 25mpg Hiway, this truck revs to high at 110 km/hr. would like to replace the rear end for more economical highway driving, automatic tranny hunts between overdrive and fourth on hills, bastard size tires on this year, only about six different tires to choose from

Good truck overall, needs work in the drive train, balancing gear ratios, ride very good, power good not empressive, little wind noise and tire noise behind seats, great traction in winter with four patio stone between the wheel well.
