Rear end sounds like a union worker on strike through in an extra rock or two. Four wheel drive is embarrassing.(when it works) firestone tires are a joke. dealership. only starts half the time. the other half I wished it didnt.

Everything is either rattleing or broke all the time. When you take it in to get serviced they refuse you a rental even after paying 30,000 dollars for it. This is my 1st GM truck I got tired of everyone talking bad About my ford so i thought I would try a GM. let me tell you its a joke you die hard gm people are idiots I am going back to a ford just asoon as A. I can afford it. B. As soon as they do something about that dog they call a triton. Can I get a GM motor in a ford truck??? someone told me yes it is called a toyota?

Model Reviewed: GMC Sierra 1500 SLT

Strength:

The engine has lots of power and the truck looks very nice. The interior is also of high quality.

Weakness:

The rest of the drive train. I have only 28K on this truck and i already have blown the spider gears in my rear. I think my universals are going already as well. There appears to be no insulation in the cab. When it gets windy it is very noisy in the cab area. Also, when you shut a door it sounds like you throw a tin can on the ground. The front brakes have a recall. If you hit the breaks too hard and the road surface changes slightly, the abs always kicks in which has almost got me in numerous car accidents. There is something wrong with the front end, i have a whining when i turn the wheel hard if i'm moving slowly or not moving at all. Like a month after purchase, the relay in the drivers side door for the power window went and it was stuck down. The dealer didn't have a replacement part so they had to take one out of a new truck on the lot (i pity the fool who bought that truck). I had to put dual exhaust and a K&N air filter on it so the damn thing could breath. My old muffler looked like half of a 55 gal. drum. I also got ripped out of 15 hp for the next model year. Something also rattles in the rear end. Would the fact that this vehicle was made at the height of the GM strike have anything to do with its quality???????

I am not pleased in the lest with the truck. The only things it has going for it is that it accelerates with the greatest of ease and it really motors on the highway. If i knew the poor quality was a result of the GM strike then i would definately take a chance on another. Other wise i would look towards the ford or dodge. Another bad thing is that GM does not do custom orders, so the customer is suck with the hunk of crap with a bad color selection that the dealer has on the lot.

Ford F-150 lariat or the Dodge 1500 SLT, i am not sure how it would compare. I heard the 5.4L triton engine is very weak and i heard the transmissions on dodge pick ups don't have that good of a longevity.

Nice truck; fun to drive and I get lots of compliments on my little
'peekup' (new body style) Bought the short bed step side for
ease of parking, and need a truck too kind of deal. Good mileage
and plenty of power too with the V-6.

Weakness:

Have had 3 factory recalls so far, 2 of them have been for brakes.
Brakes seem to be a weak link on this truck. Dealer service is
the absolute pits! When you're buying, you get treated like
family, when you have a factory recall, they'll say/do just about
anything to get rid of you!

I'll always drive a truck, and I love my GMC, but the Ford f150 was
actually lower priced with similar features. Next time I'm going to
look harder at the Fords.....

Ride quality, engine power, gas milage, looks

Weakness:

noisy motor when cold, many clunks and rattles, stock shocks are garbage

I've put 26000 kms on this machine and have to say that I haven't been completely dissatisfied. For what I paid the engine should not tick on cold start-ups and for a 4x4 that candlestick shocks just won't cut it. All this aside it is still one of the better vehicles I have owned. The power of the 5.3 is awesome and I am getting around 24 mpg on the highway. I know alot of people complain about clunks and rattles in there 4x4s, but some drivetrain noise is normal. I've owned several 4x4's and have had all make some wierd noises at times. They aren't going sound like a car!!
My dealership has been awesome with me. I've had the steering shaft replaced, rear window for a leak and noise check on cold start-up. I was told the knock is carbon build-up knock and can be fixxed with an engine flush. We'll see.

Model Reviewed: Sierra 4x4 Z71

Strength:

The thing that jumps out first is the torque of the vortec 5.7 litre. The power of the engine is classic with 270 hp. It handles pretty well for a truck. The Z71 package shocks are rugged enough for all off-road conditions.

Weakness:

I had to replace the power steering pump at 40,000 miles. The pump alone was $370...ouch. The paint has alot of orange peel in it. Typical factory paint (too much hardener). At the present time I am chasing gremilins in the wiring. No matter what you touch in the cab the dome and all the interior lights come on. And stays on. If it was not for the dome override, I would have a dead battery every morning.

All and all, I am very pleased with the truck. I put a lot of miles on, about 20,000 per year. So far nothing too major. This wiring thing worries me. It could be simple or expensive. I did upgrade the small 245 tires to 265. Much better.

Model Reviewed: Sierra 3dr, Z71

Strength:

Excellent power, ride, comfort, Auto4WD, 22-24 MPG hwy.

Weakness:

Engine lacks torque compared to the 5.7(downshifts too often for small hills), typical first year glitches, cheap stereo speakers. Z-71 shocks are worthless compared with the Bilsteins used on the old models. P-type tires DO NOT belong on trucks (any truck)!!!

The truck has had many strange problems, which I hope are only first year production problems: heater controls, power seat track, drivetrain seals, power windows, misc. vibrations & rattles (including that $#$@(&* steering shaft, replaced 4 times already). The local dealer has been excellent with fixing these problems.

No problems with any major items (engine, powertrain, etc.) The seats are very comfortable. The truck rides and handles far better than the previous model.

My only regret is that I don't have 4:10 gears. Overall, very satisfied.

Strength:

Solid smooth ride. Powerful 5.3 litre engine gives me great hauling performance (and speed for the kid in me). Roomy interior. I like the bare rubber flooring, makes for an easy clean up after playing in the mud. Good gas mileage for a full size truck. Great looking.

Weakness:

Wind noise for right rear corner of ext cab. Dealer can not find a problem. Strange exhaust noise when accelerating, sounds like a leaky manifold gasket, but dealer could not find any leak. 3rd door sometimes does not close tight in the cold weather causing a lot of wind noise and a cold draft. Call GM and they assured me that the door will not open because it uses a dual locking system. So far so good.

Overall I love this truck, I would recommend it to anyone. I have found it great for hauling and towing my trailer (19.0 ft). Lots of room for me and the family (wife/2kids). A bit pricey but what isn't these days. Compared to Ford it was 5,000.00 USD cheaper I would have to go up to a F-250 to get the same towing capacity etc.
