Strength:

Lots of power

Weakness:

Headliner came down while still on warranty, dealer replaced. CD player skips all the time, dealer will not replace because I'm out of warranty now. Anti-lock breaks broke just out of warranty and dealer won't fix. GMC customer service is piss-poor.

Great truck except it breaks all the time and GMC customer service is horrible.

Model Reviewed: GMC 1500 extended cab

Strength:

Rides and tows well with reasonable gas mileage.

Weakness:

Poor interior design. Air vents will not close off, seat is very uncomfortable, power window switch only has an "automatic" position - touch it and it goes all the way down, etc. etc. etc. Typical - make it for what you think people want and never ask a consumer.

Poor design and quality control on engine. GMC warranty and recall policy sucks.

Had a bad water pump that they only changed after I complained about higher than normal temperatures. Service bulletin warned dealers of problem but specifically stated "do not change unless customer complains".

Has always used a quart of oil every 1,500 miles but GMC policy says that's OK. For Rick's benefit, I bought the truck new and have followed ALL service recommendations.

New muffler and exhaust system after less than 5 years and 45,000 miles.

NEVER LET ME DOWN, FILLED IT WITH WOOD TILL IT WAS RIDING ON THE HELPER SPRINGS AND IT DIDN'T COMPLAIN. NEVER WENT FAST, BUT IT NEVER QUIT ON ME.
LOVE THIS TRUCK TO MUCH TO COMPLAIN. LOOKS AND RIDES GOOD.

Weakness:

REPLACED 4WD MOTER, WATER PUMP, ROTERS AT AT 80,000.
REPLACED INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET AND TIMING COVER GASKET AT 130,000
CONNECTING RODS TIRED AT 137,000.
HARD TO START IN THE COLD. (BELOW 10 DEGREES)

I RECOMEND THIS TRUCK BECAUSE EVEN WITH THE WIMPY MOTER IT NEVER GOT STUCK IN SNOW OR MUD, GOOD FOR PULLING MEDIUM SIZED STUMPS.
GOOD LOOKING ENOUGH TO TAKE ON DATES.
THIS IS THE ONLY VEHICLE I DROVE FOR 8 YEARS.

Strength:

My wife had a back operation and it was the easiest for her to get in and out off now. Even easier than a new Buick.

Weakness:

Likes to slide around real easy in the snow (backend) but then it is just a 2wd.

The 4.8 V-8 has lots of power for a car replacement with decent towing capacities and has a very comfortable seat (40/20/40) with a good sound system. I think a good salesman and the dealer in general make a lot of differance in any vehical though.

Model Reviewed: Sierra1500SL(4x4)270hp Auto 3dr

Strength:

Power-270hp V8 incredible under highway conditions, and comfortable in 150-160km/h range. No autotrac on SL model, transfer case on floor, and absolutely top notch performance with 4x4 HIGH option under inclement weather conditions-best 4x4 i have driven. ABS saved me on 2 occassions to date......Performance in nasty snow/ice/wet/slick conditions is this trucks strength. Versatility is good as well, used in downtown gridlock as well as highway - Love the roar as 270 horses kick in during passing situations, up to 160 in a blink from 100km/h.
Also i opted for the short box vs long, and was absolutely stunned with how much cargo I could load into the box (up to the roof, heavy material) and still have the truck humming at 130km/h + uder highway conditions, no sacrifice in power, it was incredible, the truck barely noticed i guess.....

Weakness:

steering - but I expected it to be a sore point (sacrifice)
gas consumption - once it's passed the 1/2 point it just goes......
400-500km per tank of gas at roughly $55-70 cdn per fill. (98l tank)
(This is under agressive driving conditions)
RATTLES (passenger seat installation error, clearence w windshield, dash etc. - drives me crazy but see summary - also may have been caused by aggresive off roading lol)
Interior - basic, but i am a fan of minimilistic interior if i can get the performance i demand.
Every oil change, GMC mechanic has NEVER reset the oil change warning, and as such, without fail, it comes on less the 1000km later. I now drive with it on all the time, as i am told it is simply a time sensitive reminder and not based on any diagnostics that may be occuring. Nice orange glow.
UPGRADE the rear view mirror - blinding at night w standard

I would recommend this workhorse, and if i am ever in the market for another truck, this will be the one i purchase.
36 month lease. Worked out to roughly 34k Canadian. Got the SL model and customized it with 17" Tires (do NOT go w standard 16") - wanted the 18" but too pricey.
$504 tax in monthly (pricey, but what can you do), also was told that i will never need the rear defroster ($150 cdn). Got it, and used it almost every day this winter to date.
Got the upgraded suspension - dont even consider going w standard.
Currently 23,000 km on it. No troubles, other then rattles. Dealer has been excellent and has looked into it and fixed them AT NO CHARGE with NO HASSLE. Fantastic service (Popham) in Toronto (minus the oil light fiasco)
Looked at F150 and Dodge RAM - unacceptable alternatives.
Do not go with V6-the V8 beats in hands down......
Also the best looking truck in it's class - pewter metallic.....

Strength:

Very comfortable, quiet, nice control layout, smooth ride, excellent paint and finish.

Weakness:

gas milage average 12, brakes needed changing at around 38000 mi. the rotors were already worn or manufactured to the point they could not be turned or would have to replaced, both universal joints went at 42000 mi to the point the whole truck was severly vibrating the dealer (Gates GMC Nissan) in Windham Ct. said sorry it was over the warantee. It astounds me that a $30,000.00 + truck after taxes and every thing else, that the dealer would at least call GMC about this problem and give me the satisfaction they at least tried. also I had it back to the same dealer 4 times because my remote control for the doors was not working properly.

If you want a big comfortable truck with a great ride go for it.

If you want inferior parts and average service accept it.

Model Reviewed: 5.3L extcab Z71 loaded

Strength:

Power - great engine/trany/transfer case; seats are comfe, and with the 4th door, the extended cab is functional. My two college defensive linemen sons and our 2 dogs seem to like the back seat too. At least they haven't bitten me yet, and the dogs are always ready to ride too.

Weakness:

OK, I'll mention the price is too high and the CD box in the dash is weird, but that's no big deal... Oh, I changed out the Firestones for the big BFG's right away.

I really like this truck! It's got about 6k mile on it now.

The power was good from the dealer, but adding K&N's filter/induction and Borla's exhaust systems really improved throttle response and the sound is almost better than sex...

I get about 15mpg which is good for me in a 4x4 and with the meats I'm running. My F150 was closer to 12. We've done one 1,800 mile trip and it's fine on the interstate. The ride gets a little rough if the highway is beatup, but this Z71 loves to eatup dirt roads and speedbumps.

If ya need a full size ride and already a Harley - head for the general's place. Actually, head for several, because their is a difference in their pricing. (Hint: Look out for the 'marketing allowance' added to the dealer's invoice price, but not in the MSRP. They'll hook ya for another $300 or so when you negotiate an $x over invoice cost deal.)

I put about 85k miles on my F150, which was a good truck too. I think the GMC has a smoother, more power feeling engine now. Also, I had to install custom seats in the Ford to get the feel these GM seats have.

I would absolutely recommend this truck to anyone, I've had no problems in 5 years and 75,000 miles. I use this truck for work on construction sites, hauling and towing and it's never flinched. For only 21,000 bucks, its the best thing i have ever bought.

Weakness:

I havent had any problems yet.

I've read a lot of the other reviews, and come to find out I don't understand how you people have had problems with your trucks. You obviosly don't know how to maintain and take care of your truck. The guy who's exhaust rusted at 40,000 miles, give me a break, what did you do dip it in acid? People complaining about the stereo, hello, it's factory, if you want a ride for just the sounds, buy a nice car. Some of you people who have had other problems with the slightly older trucks, maybe the previous owner was as incompetent as you are. Finally I agree with Rich from Sterling Heights, best truck you can buy, just get your head out of your ass and take care of it!
