Strength:

Great room, excellent seats, great body style. Engine has never let me down. Great ride on the road. Best customer service I have ever had.

Weakness:

On my third transmission, 2nd drive shaft. Second set of rims and tires due to mysterious shimmy (never corrected), second set of door hinges due to loud squeak, second set of windows due to wind noise. Strange oil consumption. Mystery part fell off inside, no one knows what it is. Handles lousy in the mountains. Continuous klicking when I turn (very annoying). Can''t wait to sell.

I couldn''t wait to get a GMC. Wish I was too poor to afford the truck, I would have less headaches than I have. Still, I would keep it instead of going back to Ford.

Love the interior and the comfort of the power seats.

Weakness:

Help from those supposed to fix problems. If it''s this bad from day 1 what about at 35,000 miles when the warranty is about to expire?

Have had problems with the truck burning oil since 2nd week of ownership. Take the truck to the dealer and of course they are unable to duplicate the problem. The piece of junk smokes every time I start it and the can never see anything wrong with it. I took it to them 1/2 quart low of oil and they said that it must have never been filled. So what do they do fill it and tape the dipstick shut so that I cannot check the fluid level myself. Upon removing the tape I found the level to be filled 1/2 quart above MAX. They state it was not filled that high. Took back to deal 3 other times and they can never "duplicate the problem." Finally I video taped it and took it in to show them and they now say "oh there is a problem with the valve seals and we will have to replace them." Yeah whatever they knew there was a problem from day 1. They now say that the seals must be replaced with "older model seals" if that is the case then GMC knows there is an ongoing problem so why don''t they just fix it?

Auto 4WD, Good Looks and Style helps either in town or on The Farm. Plenty of Power to pull a 235 Massey Ferguson Tractor and Trailer. Excellent Ride.

Weakness:

Factory Tires Used by Firestone and Still GM says they were Safe. Too Much Plastic in the Truck.

The Dealership Makes Up for the Weakness in the Vehicle. Have had GMC all my Life I am Disappointed in the Leather Seats, Rattles and Steering Problems.

Strength:

Power, looks, mileage, handling, comfort. Fairfields Cadillac GMC is by far the best dealer I have ever come across. Service dept gives no stories, just takes care of problem.

Weakness:

As much as I love this truck I would be doing no favors by leaving out the problems: 1. Doors needed adjusting immediately for rattles and wind noise. Fixed without issue by dealer 2. Leaf springs chirp when starting and stopping, brought in to dealer now four times, tried tightening, lubricating, and most recently all new bushings. Still exactly the same problem, however not a big deal. 3. Cheap leather seats, I dont think it is really leather. Plastic-like thin coating over fabric. 4. Locking rear-end sometimes would stay engaged, brought to dealer who said everything works perfect. Two weeks later the rear-end completely ate itself up. GM roadside assistance picked it up within an hour. 5. Relatively thin body panels for a truck. 6. Stock stereo needs a bit of help. 7. Slight engine tick at no particular time.

Great power and handling as well as, in my opinion, the best looks in the class. Plently of issues but so far dealership has been excellent about solving them.

Strength:

Lots of room inside, looks good. Fair fuel mileage, 16 city/hwy if I''m easy on the gas pedal. Plastic interior trim doesn''t degrade from UV (like the Cutlass of the same year did).

Weakness:

The well-known paint problem. The other less-well-known problem. Extremely poor quality engineering. This truck was broken the day it came off the assembly line.

The 1989 GMC Sierra Extended Cab is an absolute piece of junk. I have driven it many miles, yes, but I have experienced ALL the typical GM truck problems: Had to get the front-end retrofit so it could be aligned, and the paint peeling problem has never been fixed right. Other aggravating problems include a radio that never works (and is fully custom), failure of the instrument cluster, very noisy A/C compressor, malfunctioning brake lights, forever replacing starter/water pump/alternator, and right now it''s giving me the fake "service engine soon" problem. If you are shopping for new or used, skip GM and go with something decent, like a Ford, Mazda, Toyota or Nissan.

Strength:

Very attractive appearance, especially after off-road tires and a dual muffler are put on. Also, very comfortable ride.

Weakness:

Mechanically falls apart after 40k miles. Highly recommend extended warranty if you really want to buy this truck or else you will pay out the nose (like I did, over 2,500 just in past month ALONE!!!) Also, I think this truck is over-priced.

This truck looks very nice and is very comfortable. It has a comfortable ride; however, shortly after the warranty expired (at 36k miles)a number of mechanical problems began to plague this vehicle. It rides nice on the highway but I don't think this is a very good 4wd vehicle. In the line of work I am in, the 4wd is used often. The entire front end had to be replaced (axle and diff), the ABS went out, the automatic windows work when they want to, and the transfer case seal had to be replaced. Although it is a very "pretty truck" I would not say it is "like a rock" but more like a big rock sinking in the water!

Toyota 4wd. Although a small truck compared to the GMC Sierra, these things seem to last forever. 150k miles on one truck, and 240k an another! Just might go back real soon.

Strength:

Nice interior styling, comfortable (power) seats, back seat had decent room, Vortec engine is powerful.

Weakness:

Too many bugs with the Vortec engine and driveline: had fuel injectors replaced 3 times, distributor replaced once, intake manifold replaced once, EGR valve replaced twice, plug wires replaced twice, fuel pump replaced, tranny rebuilt once (ready for #2), axle seals went bad. All this was done under extended warranty, I finally sold the truck when 3 different dealers told me they couldn't fix the various engine problems.

If it weren't for repeated problems with the engine, I would still own this truck today. However, GMC's customer service sucks, their dealers and service departments are staffed by morons, and they really don't give a crap about maintaining repeat customers.

comfort, all around comfort. after a long day it feels good to sit down and drive home in.

Weakness:

don't like the hubcaps at all, but i don't like hubcaps on anything. also don't care for the way the dash is fading, red fades to purple/pinkish tint and color come off with wet rag.

haven't had my truck long but already i'm in love with it. it's a v6 1500 but it runs like a tank. i put 1.25 tons on her and she drove home no problem, a little low in the rear but didn't bottom out. my job asks alot out of a truck and i'm happy to say this truck is holding up so far.
