Strength:
Excellent company truck. Had it till it had 290,000 miles with a 305 nutless V8 and an automatic/overdrive transmition which was replaced 4 times. Anyway, I always beat on the truck and it took it. I.E. I never changed the oil on time. I went the last 50,000 miles without changing it. Probably about 3/4 of the miles on it was with a trailer on the back of it. I am not talking a little trailer either. Usuall about 10,000 pounds. It was an extended SLX model. It had the am fm cassette and equalizer, air conditioning, power windows, tilt wheel, cruise control. The only thing that went wrong with anything like that was the air conditioning needed to be recharged once, that is it. This truck also has not rust on it which is unusual in this area for an 8 year old vehicle. When it got to 250,000 miles it got a little hill shy because on cylinder stopped working, but what do you expect with the mileage and abuse, and it kept running. It stalled a few times in the morning but that was it, and it did not burn a drop of oil or smoke when you started it. All in all a great truck and I wish GMC would build one like this again, the new vortec models do not compair to the old throttle body fuel injection models. Would not be afraid of another one like this with a lot of miles because mine was still running pretty good on 7 cylinders when I sold it. Never had any engine work done on it. Never lost a head gasket or timing chain ever replaced. If you drive them hard they will last!!
Weakness:
What is not to like! Strongly Recommend it over a new one. You will get your moneys worth. Similar Products Used: 1989 Ford F250, not a bad truck, but not nearly as nice as the 92 GMC |

Strength:
Good looks. Smooth and powerful 5.3 engine. 3.73 axle, AutoTrac 4WD. Attractive interior and instrument panel especially when lit up at night. Curb lights in doors. Good fuel economy. Power seats and windows. Some storage room behind seat in regular cab. Roomy glove box plus an overhead storage place. Good sound system. Electrochromatic dimming mirror with compass and outside temperature display. Good heater and window defrosters. Dark Graphite interior matches the standard color of GM steering wheels and snap in panels.
Weakness:
Carpet material is cheap looking for upscale truck. Reflection of dashboard in the windshield on sunny days is annoying and reduces vision. Vision is also restricted by thick window and roof pillars, etc. At 400 miles a ball joint replaced and front wheels aligned. No other real problems. Paid about $26,000 plus tax. No extended warranty. 1500 Reg Cab,Long Bed, 4WD AutoTrac, Locking Differential, Air, Power windows & seats, CD Player, Polished Aluminum Wheels Similar Products Used: None |

Styling, payload, towing capability, smoother more stable ride than with older models, braking
Weakness:
Fit and finish , not tight enough Nice truck overall, but the little details matter when paying this much money for a new vehicle. GMC should not skimp in this area. It may be what brings customers back for a second time. They should go back to the drawing board when designing exhaust system- if it is an exhaust problem and not something else. Changing gas did not help. It's too soon to say if I would recommend this truck to anyone else considering it. Similar Products Used: Ford, we'll see how they compare |

Sierra (SLE Extended Cab)
Strength:
I have the 5.3L and the power is Great. Towing is good, pulls a 26ft camper with ease. Very comfortable interior. Gas mileage 19 avg p/g.
Weakness:
Too many minor problems, electric windows made a grinding noise, driver side ext. cab window leaked, had problems with keyless entry and ABS. Despite that all fixed under warranty: Except for the minor problems I do like and would recommend it. The service from a local dealer has been terrible. Had it in more from problems they created than fixed but finally they finshed. As mentioned before in some reviews, I think once you get all the little nit-picking though irritating problems out you will like it. Also wish I had the 4th door. When buying check dealer reputation, they can make you angry with service. Similar Products Used: 94 GMC Sonoma, 95 Chevy S10 ext.cab (good trucks for the most but I wanted more room) |

The styling is great , this is saying a lot from a former ford only buyer. the truck is a regular cab long bed. and the dealership is great (Westfall GMC) but GMC customer service is lousy, I called three time about rhings I wanted to know and the answer was always "contect your dealer".
Weakness:
Customer Service, if you buy one be sure you have a good dealer. I paid $23,005 and it is well worth it. Anyone who need or want a new truck should consider GMC as I think it is the best truck on the road. I had the usual first problems but the dealer took care of the promply. /ext. cab 3-DR 2WD
Strength:
The motor (4.8 V8, 270 hp) is awesome -- smooth, supple, and powerful. The truck is tight, solid, smooth, and quiet with great handling and braking for a p/u. The interior is roomy and comfy (excepting the front passenger seat), especially the back -- it's the biggest in its class, and adults can sit in modest comfort back there. The sound system is great.
Weakness:
There is some annoying wind noise from rear quarter windows at >60 mph (they say there is a TSB out to fix this). Front passenger footroom is absurdly tight for a full-size p/u -- the tranny and some ductwork intrude seriously. I'm 6'5" and fit very comfortably on the driver's side but can't get completely comfy on the pax side. My fiancé (5'3") has no problem. The styling is... well, it's a Jimmy. I love this truck and would highly recommend it. I bought it 3 mos/3000 miles ago ($22.3K), and with the exception of wind noise, everything works great and I have had nary a problem. I use the truck mostly for driving to work and hauling stuff from the home center, but it can also work hard. The base 4.8L V8 has power to burn, and the 4-wheel disks with ABS stop the beast with confidence. Mileage beats my old 4WD Cherokee (around 16 in town). The rack-and-pinion steering is precise, and the body is stiff. The instrument cluster is clear, simple, and informative, all controls are well laid out, and the drink holders are huge (they hold my big, 22 oz coffee cup). I have the 40/20/40 split bench, which is extremely comfy -- I can drive for hours. It leaves me with no desire for buckets and lets me squeak in an extra rider if I really have to. My only other beefs -- the upholstery could be a notch better in a truck at this price, but it's adequate. The floor mats are chintzy. It would be nice if the rear seat could be removed entirely without tools. |

Strength:
This 2000 GMC Seirra 4WD extended cab is a smooth ride. Engine is very strong and pulls Horse trailer well. Nice two tone Black with lower pewter paint and fender flares.
Weakness:
Brake pedal travel is excessive. Sound system buzzes too much -- if I crank it up I don't notice the buzzing as much, but, at low volume there is too much buzz coming from the rear speakers and is anoying When talking price, we all know the cost of all vehicles are out of control. If you want the product, you pay the consumer driven prices. If the trend was not to buy anything until prices dropped -- I would get on board. (i.e. the price of Harleys) Similar Products Used: 1987 Ford F150 2WD supercab bought new. Overall quality was greatly inferior to this Jimmy. Went through a lot of fuel tanks, exhaust manifolds cracked, exhaust pipe rotted to often and too much body rust too soon. 1990 Dodge 150LE bought used. Solid powerful gas sucking reliable truck. |
