Strength:

Strong and fast 5.7 Litre engine. Can tow alot even though it is only a 1/2 ton. Very comftorable, good handing and ride, easy to drive(for a truck)

Weakness:

We haven't had any engine problems or transmission problems with this truck yet. The only kind of problems that we have had are electrical. The first problem is that you'd be in a store, or in your house, or anywhere and the truck would start by itself. that ended up being something with a short on the remote starter. Another problem is when you'd open your door, your head lights would turn on. The windsheild whipers would not work for quite a while.(computer related) and when they did work they'd adjust their speed all of the time on their own. when you'd be listening to the radio, the cd player would turn itself on and start playing songs for no apparent reason. Last but not least the truck has 40,000 miles, that's right 40,000 miles and we've already had to put a new exhaust sytem on it.. This time we've gone to aftermarket exhaust(dual exhaust) instead of the stock GM exhaust.

GMC makes a great truck, but I'd be a little afraid of all of the "comptuer controled" devices on the truck. But besides these little things it has been a very good vehicle. I think that this truck would be good for just about any body that is looking for a good vehicle.

Strength:

I've owned my truck just at 9 years now. GMC Stepside, 350. I just replaced the engine last Christmas and at that time it was still running but had 280,000 miles that engine. That's right! 280,000 miles!! About 2 years after I bought the truck I put a 5 inch "Super Lift" on my truck and I can't say enough good things about the GMC. So far I've had atleast 15 people switch to GMC due to how reliable my truck runs and as good as it has been to me. I've even gone as far as pull these newer truck out of the mud. Ford just humping off the idea's of Chevy, trucking to keep above water and Dodge can't make a decent enough engine to call their own so they just use the Diesel V10, that still can't take a Vortec! I'm a classic car owner, 69 Camaro Conv and I'm proud to be a Chevy girl!!!

Weakness:

Buying my 35" tires every 3 years. Their expensive.

I paid about $8,500 for my 1988 GMC Stepside and will and I have reccommended buying GMC & Chevrolet products.

Strength:

Good looking truck, runs good. Traded in a syclone (stupid mistake)didn't fit in the syclone anyways.

Weakness:

Let's where shall I start, battery went dead at 4 months old, four wheel drive acuator lever never would engage the four wheel drive first time out, left rear speaker quite working, electric seat quite working, leaky rear pumkin that could not be fixed had to pull entire axle for new one, can't turn off AC, fan control to AC stays in high (have to unplug underneath passenger glove box). Second rear end leaks again by the pumkin. Replaced transmission at 78k, both curtousy light switches on passenger and drivers doors won't turn on the lights inside the cab, passenger seat won't come forward manually. Intake manifold leaks, fuel pump has been replaced. One good thing it's never been wrecked.

I will never buy another GMC!, well maybe the only thing that is saving it is the new DURAMAX model, maybe there is hope for this disgruntled GM owner.

I have never had problems with either my Grand National(101,000 miles) or my Syclone. I guess the saying is true " I got either a Friday or Monday truck" I can't be those $35.00 an hour Union Workers!!!!!.

Strength:

Power, acceleration will tear up many other trucks and older sports cars in a drag race (lost one time to a newer model GMC Sierra), cab room, rear wheel drive is fun on ice

Weakness:

-GAS MILEAGE!!!!! 8 MPG!!!!!!!!! Pathetic...
-Speakers are TERRIBLE...about the quality of Bose
-And the absolute WORST part of the truck, the steering........ it is just.....sad...

-5.0 Liter 350 V-8 1500 SLE Sierra

I got this truck when my grandpa bought it for me last year. I'm never going to get rid of it. I just completely love it.
The steering is terrible... takes a while to get used to it, but when you do it ain't no thing. just cant get the close parking spots at places (a little walking never hurt anyone though.)
Audio system- worthless POS. Speakers are getting replaced as soon as possible, and the deck is already out a JVC cd receiver is in its place.
The engine is great. Enough power to beat all my friends racing anyways. The gas mileage is terrible. i spend about $40 every time i fill up the tank and it sucks. The rear wheel drive is pretty fun though.

But when it all comes down to it, this truck gets a 5 star rating from me.
-The mileage is bad, but the ride is nice as hell. It really is.
-The speakers are terrible, but go out and find a truck with factory speakers in it that sound half-way decent (besides special ordered ones.) They can be replaced for only a few hundered dolars, if that.
-The steering is bad. But I am 16 years old, have been driving it for over a year, and not a single dent, or even a close call for that matter. (Not even door-dings)
I will keep this truck for as long as I can. It has everything I need and will need until i start hauling big things, but that won't happen for many more years.
-Finally, this truck just flat out looks nice. The 8 foot extended cab is an exceptionally nice looking truck. Especially an ALMOST mint condition '89 like mine. I have a few scratches from rocks and a SMALL dent on the chrome wheel well covering. Otherwise, amazing...
That's all
Oh, it is a pain in the ass to repair it. I had to have the door hinges replaced and the door handles and it really sucks to do. I helped, so I know.

Good looing truck, thats were it ends. The old saying is good ain't cheap and cheap ain't good, well in this case I paid alot and received poor quaility and service to boot.

Weakness:

Being a faithful GM purchaser I was extremly disappointed in the quaility.
The rear end sounds like it wants to fall out. Many squeaks , rattles and the such. Poor 4 wheel drive performance in 4 low. Had the transmission and rear end worked on at 7500 miles. The engine has a load KNOCK when first statred. I strongly would not recommend this vehicle.

$27,000.00 I would not buy this truck. I see why imports are gaining market share.

Strength:

a lot of room in the cab, good factory stereo/cd

Weakness:

too many problems.. steering slips, brakes only lasting 20k miles, wind noise in cab, egr valve twice, fuel pump at 45k miles etc etc

In the past, I would only recommend and buy gm products, however, I have paid 22k for the pickup and 30k for the tahoe and have problems that I feel I shouldn't be having for that kind of money. Having to replace brakes has almost become a regular maintenance item and not a repair (and I do not use these to tow anything). I may be small potatos to gm, but I have bought 8 vehicles in 10 years (all gm) and I am looking again now, however I am looking real hard at fords this time

TRuck rides very well, it has great power Plenty of room for the kids and stuff

Weakness:

the wind noise in the extende cab windows is very annoying and have been replaced three times to no avail. The rough idle that the dealer cant fix, and the very thin paint chipping of the hood, bug sheild bought to fix that problem and the dew in the mornings that drip into the electric door controls do to no rain drip rail, thought vent visors might correct that and the lumbar seat adjustments that you cant get to becouse there isnt enough room between the seat and the door when it closed gm should have made them electric on all models

very good price for vehicle, but gm could throw in the compass system and electric seats for what consumers are paying

Strength:

Strong engine, smooth ride, comfortable interior

Weakness:

Price, Firestone Tires

Excellent truck, I would recommend it to anybody. I probably paid too much for it, though. Mine is indigo blue with pewter and graphite leather interior, VERY beautiful. Doesn't come with carpet floor mats, make sure the dealer throws them in. Plenty of power to tow a boat over the mountain passes. Very comfortable seats, I could ride in it all day. Plenty of head and leg room. Back seats are moderately comfortable. Wish I had the 4th door. Watch out for the leak in the right side of the rear slider, dealer replaced mine under warranty.
