Strength:
So reliable I don''t know why any one could concider anything else. very easy to fix anything under the hood(in my opinion) low end power, extremly fun to drive.
Weakness:
There is not as much high end torque as I would like but I really don''t need it. Not enough after market parts :) I bought my truck from my brother after he ran into a van and messed up the front end. it didn''t take very long to get rid of the dammage and now it looks as good as it performs. I''ve got the 2.3L 2wd and it is bone stock with the exception of the K&N air filter and a couple of bolt on body mods. For having such a small engine she can really move, here in colorado she runs right up the steepest passes and holds her own on the interstate. The handling is also superb. Put the right set of tires on it and you can out corner any truck on the road. the brakes are also excellant. I''ve never locked the wheels and I only have rear ABS. the only problem with the brakes is the dust, Than again I''m very hard on them so it is probably my fault. she also does a good job hauling stuff around, the suspension takes any load really well. I haven''t done very much with trailers but I have pulled 1.6 tons of river rock(don''t do this if you have any steep hills to climb, on second thought don''t do this, period) She also does a great job of pulling chevys out trouble;)The gas mileage was a little stinky but the K&N air filter and a couple of intake system mods really helped.if you are soft on the gas and keep your RPMs low you can pull 24mpg highway and 20mpg city with a stock engine, it only gets better from stock. I have had no problems with my baby aside from the usual maintenance, I got 173000 miles on the factory clutch, and I don''t go easy on it!!!! KEVIN HOLMES
Strength:
I USE THIS VEHICLE LIKE A TRUCK. I PROBABLY WORK IT HARDER THAN ANY OTHER RANGER I HAVE SEEN AND I HAVEN''T BROKEN IT YET. THE OWNER''S MANUAL SAYS THAT THIS TRUCK SHOULD N0T PUSH SNOW. -- IT WORKS FINE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. STILL DRIVES LIKE AND LOOKS LIKE NEW. I NEVER EVEN WAXED IT. LOOKS LIKE A RANGER, WORKS LIKE F-250 BUT STILL FITS IN THE GARAGE
Weakness:
COULD USE A HEAVIER SUSPENSION FOR REALLY HEAVY LOADS. NO REAL PROBLEMS, PLENTY OF POWER, HAVE 85000 MILES NOW. ADDED TRANSGO SHIFT KIT TO HELP THE TRANSMISSION SURVIVE THE SNOWAY NOWPLOW ADDED THIS FALL. ADDED TIMBREN SUSPENSION FRONT AND REAR TO INCREASE LOAD CAPACITY WITH A SNOWPLOW AND PULLING HEAVY TRAILERS. I HAVE 4.0 WITH SUPERCAB. I PULL 3000LB TRAILERS AND ALWAYS CARRY AT LEAST 500LBS OF TOOLS IN THE BED. Similar Products Used: None |

Gas Mileage I have been leasing the my Ranger for almost 2 years now and have been happy with it. I have the v6 160 HP 4.0 Liter engine and automatic transmission. It has been great off-road and in bad weather. On the highway the truck rides smooth and for the most part quiet. I rarely even need to use the 4-wheel drive. I wish the truck got better gas mileage. It also seems to take its time shifting. Similar Products Used: 1993 Ford Escort |

Strength:
About everything- tough, good suspension (pre 98 model before they went to car or chevy style suspension), good power with the 4.0 motor with few mods, bulletproof so far, limited slip 8.8 inch rear end and Dana 35 front stock, nice interior and stylish exterior, plus it smokes S-10''s on and definetely off-road
Weakness:
Gas milage not great but i''m not exactly light on the pedal, and now i have a turbo to put on it so that will make it worse No complaints. This is the 4.0 motor manual tranny and so far its bulletproof. I''v punished this thing to death pulling enclosed trailers, boats, and even some chevy''s. I off-road it frequently and so far i''v only got stuck once when i got high centered. I''v went through water holes so deep the water went over the hood and almost up to the windshield and the pickup never missed a beat. The only problems i''v had is a leak from the front differential but that was caused by hitting a half buried rock at 40mph while offroading so it was my fault. It was an easy fix with some jb weld and hasnt leaked since. I''v got plans to prerunner it out with camburg suspension because no other truck makes as good of prerunner without alot of work (can you say 18 inches of front travel with stock mounts and 20+ rear). Rocket 625
Strength:
Good Engine Pull. Nice interior.
Weakness:
Notchy First Gear - Heavy. I am fairly satsified with this product. I have owned an 88 ranger and now the 96. My 88 had problems with the paint the 96 seems to have solved. So far the Motor has been stellar. 4.0 runs like a 2.2 in the higher ranges. Has torque in the lower RPMs. The ride is not quite as good as the 88 and i miss the 4 speed Auto. First gear seems notchy. The interior is quite and very plush. I enjoy having power windows and locks. The brakes seems to wear quckly. This is a very large / heavy vehicle. As above Because I had an 88 Ranger Ec and it was the best vehicle I had ever owned bar none I decided to buy a new 98 SC model. Boy was that a mistake. In 10 years they have made some improvements but there are more minuses than pluses. The problems are straight engineering nothing more and this is unforgivable in my opinion. The wheels are capable of holding 1 litre of water, due to the design of the wheel. this will lead to corrosion, as well as serious imbalance if frozen. The passenger seat on the 88 is mounted on 2 sliders for access to rear. the 88 has only 1 slider which gives 13" shoulder room to access rear. 88 has 26" Drivers seat gives a pain in lower right hip bone after 2 hour trip. 98 is very choppy ride and gives a pitching sensation front to back on uneaven road. Going over a rising falling railroad crossing the rear wheels will come right off road. In case you don''t think I know what I am talking about I still have my 88, as they would give me nothing for it so I kept it and use it in winter. I am reminded just how superior this vehicle is twice a year spring and fall. I even look forward to winter. I realise Ford can do nothing about this but repeated attempts to talk to someone in engineering has brought no results Bill Daykin Similar Products Used: My old 88 Great little truck |

Reliable, well-built and thoughtfully designed.
Weakness:
None I can think of I purchased this truck new and it has been a blessing from the get-go (except of course, for the payments). I have never replaced anything except the battery and I have 149,000 miles on it. Get the 4 liter, V-6--it is worth the extra money. I LOVE MY TRUCK! XLT 4 Door 4x4 4.0
Strength:
Torque, Styling, Braking System, 4wd operation, sound system, ride.
Weakness:
Mileage, though could be improved with driving style. Comfortable seating and ride, making it an enjoyable truck to drive. Improved sound system over previous years - I recommend either a single cd or six-disc system. Stylish look and perfect stance to truck. The 4.0 was by far the best choice of engines, with plenty of torque and power either off the line or on the fly, though mileage is not as expected regardless of driving style. Cup holder and consolette should be either raised or increased in size in the future - I was hoping Ford would learn this from previous Ranger model years. As far as satisfaction overall, no contest - it''s a keeper! Similar Products Used: 1999 Ranger, 1997 F150, 1987 Ranger |

The white Ranger Terror
Strength:
Zippy, Good handling, Girl attractor
Weakness:
Gas millage is not were I would like it I love my little ranger. I drive a lot and this little thing gets me there in a hurry. There is one road that I drive three or four times a day that has up hills, sharp corners, and often spontanous horse trailers. It hugs those curves like a dream often 25mph faster then what the sign says. Going up the hill is no problem giving me the name "White Ranger Terror." If one of those pesky trailers pop up it will stop on a dime. On the plus side girls think it is very cute. Similar Products Used: None |
