Looks good, comfortable.

Weakness:

6.0l diesel engine - pretty much useless.

I bought this truck in the summer of 2003. We put around 4000 miles on it in the 7 months that we owned it.I will never buy another Ford product again. The salesman flat out lied to us about the history of the new 6.0l diesel. When we started having problems with the truck, I did some research and found out that there was a design flaw in the fuel injectors. After the truck shut itself down on the interstate at 65mph. My wife decided that unless the problem was resolved, she would not get back in it.This truck has 8 injectors, Ford would only replace one.If this was simply a defective injector, I would be ok with it.However, that was not the case. All the injectors were flawed. So Ford left us with a ticking time bomb.We asked them to replace all the injectors, they refused. We asked them to buy back the vehicle, they refused. They offered us "free oil changes" We refused. They said we were making a big deal out of nothing. They probably said that in the past about tires and fuel tanks. We had some other minor problems with the vehicle that we were able to "deal with".I don't recommend a 2003 Ford diesel. If you absolutely MUST have a Ford diesel Get a used 7.3l or try an 04. They resolved some of the problems in the newer version.(but not all)How could I be so stupid!!!

Strength:

Powerful engine, best diesel on the market when its running right. Great looks. No rattles. Handles great.

Weakness:

None that I've been able to find except the recent problem with the engine.

Purchased new 6.0l diesel in Feb. 2003. Drive about 1000 miles/week. Ran great for 41,000 miles. At 41,000 miles (I have owned this truck for 10 months) experienced sudden power loss and engine quit running. There was no warning. The Water in fuel light came on. But when I drained the HCFM the fuel was clean. Dealer replaced ICM and accel pedal assembly. Drove it for 2 hours and same problem came up. Engine kept running this time but bogged down and would not accelerate. Also, the Glowplug light came on. I pressed the gas pedal to the floor and the engine bogged for a few seconds & then started running great. Just like old times. Took it back to Dealer. Mechanics experienced same problem, but computer has locked them out and they can't figure out whats wrong. Now when they drive it, it runs like a top, but they are still trying to find out what the problem is. If anyone has had a similar problem with their 6.0 please e-mail me and let me know if its been fixed. I LOVE THIS TRUCK, AND I WANT IT BACK. Before this problem I had nothing but great things to say about it. It ran great, super reliable, no problems with cold starts. It was strong as a bull. It can pull anything and got pretty good milage at 18.2 mpg on highway. Smooth ride, handles well. This truck can go anywhere & do anything. No rattles. A great truck. Despite the recent problems I have had I would still recommend this truck to anyone in the market. I'm not mad about the problems I have had I just want it fixed so I can drive the best truck in the world again.

Strength:

Muscle, fuel economy, looks menacing, no rattles, as it is not a Chevy.

Weakness:

Needs stronger back end suspension. Plan on adding a leaf in the back for $250, if you drop a large 5th wheel on it. The truck is worth it, though.

Terrific diesel truck. Previously, I owned 2 new model Chevy's, most recently the 1500HD. I thought rattles were supposed to be abundant in a big truck. Ford knows plastic, let me tell you. It is solid. . . "like a rock." Chevy was as solid as a few rocks jingling together. Ford installed the new computer program in my 2003 diesel, and it has run like a dream ever since. Calculating fuel economy at each tank with a calculator (meticulously,) I get 16.4 mpg in the city, 18 to 19 mpg on the highway, and 12 mpg pulling a 12,000 lb Montana 5th wheel. I will say that oil changes can only be done at the Ford dealers for $80, fuel filter change at 15,000 miles will run you $200, and each air filter will cost $100. Expensive upkeep, but well worth it. I had to add a large leaf to my back suspension, as my 5th wheel brought it down to its knees. While the engine will pull with unbelievable fury, I admit that Chevy's back suspension is more stout. However, my added leaf has solved that problem. Now, I have the ultimate towing machine.

2001 Chevy 1500HD Crew Cab 4x4, which I loved overall, but hated the rattles and the gas mileage. I also had the new style '99 Chevy 1500 before that. If only it had Ford's dash. . . how silent it would have been inside. I'd have to say, Ford is more "like a rock."

Great Truck! Has 106K and runs strong. The original Firestones went 105K when I got tired of them and upgraded to 35's. Averages 18mpg. I would recommend this truck and will probably replace it with another one when I hit 300K.

EXCELLENT TRUCK!!! I owned a 2003 Dodge diesel for 1 year and had nothing but problems with it (as did many others) so I decided to UPGRADE and go back to a new Ford diesel and I sure am glad I did. Although a few people have had some minor problems with the 6.0l diesels in the 1st few months of release those problems have been pretty much fixed and I have nothing but good things to say about these trucks.

I bought this truck with 22 miles on it and have put over 44000 since. I've changed the oil religiously, done all the maintenence and this truck has pulled everything I've put behind it - without any hesitation at all! I've had one issue with the visor and Ford stepped up to the plate and made it right - at their expense. Shifting on the fly to 4x4 at 60 mph is NOT a problem.

Strength:

Size, ability and apperance.

Weakness:

Ford serve technicians and fords inability to stand behind there product.

My impression of the truck is fair. I have run into a problem though. The truck is burning oil, a lot of oil for a truck with only 23,000 miles. If the truck sits for a couple days it rears its ugly head. Upon starting the motor has a loud ban in the engion. Then there is a lot of white smoke that comes from the tail pipe. The service technicians at ford say it's withing spec's. B.S!!!!!!!! A new truck should not burn any oil. Also, when placing the truck into four wheel dirve there is a pop in the front end after it engages. I will never buy another ford vehicle. (I have owned them exclusively for 30 years). Bring on the Toyota. It might be smaller but I can rely on it and not worry once the bumper to bumer warrenty runs out!

This big truck will still suck up the fuel, but not as much as my V8 triton!

I traded my '99 Ford Super Duty for this beast. I upgraded from the V8 Triton engine to the new 6.0 Liter Power Stroke Diesel and that enine ROCKS!! Talk about some horsepower! Great off the line and up those long hills!! Had no problems passing Chevy's and Dodges!! I have the Lariat package, 4x4 with Off-Road package and Trailer package. I knew I was getting a better truck than my old '99 Super Duty, but I didn't think it would be this good!!

Strength:

Great pulling power, comfortable for road trips, not as noisy as I expected for a diesel. Avg 13.46mpg pulling trailer.

Weakness:

Not as comfortable to drive as my F150. The door armrest is not easy to rest your arm on while driving.

Bought as a work truck. My BF uses it to pull a work trailer and has had no problems to date. In his words, "it doesn't even know the trailer is back there". We recently hauled a Massey Ferguson 175 for my Dad and even with that weight we did 70mph on the interstate with no strain. Has been a great truck so far. We bought a used 1999 F250 S.D. diesel last year for our route driver pulling an even larger trailer and it has done well also.
