Ford F-150 (2010 and older) Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

The Ford F-150 pickup can haul more cargo and tow a heavier trailer than any of its competitors. And with a fully boxed frame, the F-150 has the strongest chassis in its class. Engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than your most difficult tasks, the F-150 is Built Ford Tough to come through with the dependability you expect in this full-size pickup.

The current F-150 does come in a host of cab, bed, powertrain, and suspension variations; there are three cab configurations with multiple wheelbases and box lengths each, providing choices to satisfy just about any trucker's need with the F-150. Properly outfitted, the F-150 can tow 10,700 pounds--while earning five-star frontal crash-test scores. A choice of V-8 engines comes with either four- or six-speed automatic transmissions, but no V-6 engine option is offered.

Strength:

dependable 6 cyl. engine, 5 speed tranny with granny 1st, 2wd but with the right tires will go through almost a foot of snow

Weakness:

the day I made my first payment, the ignition module went. Still looked good on the back of a flatbed!

this truck has been the best investment i've ever made!! I bought it with 99,000 miles on it, and I've done nothing but routine maintenence on it for several years. I tow a boat and camper with the 300c.i. 5 speed , and other than getting tired on the hills( with 210,000+ miles) it still runs better than the ford explorer I bought and the Contour I got my wife. $1200 dollars got me new cab corners, wheel wells done, and a nice new red paint. The explorer stays HOME!

Strength:

Toeing ability, it's tough look, and it reliability.

Weakness:

The back seats are too small, and the drink holders are too big

It works great for toeing. You can load heavy things in the back, or hook up a trailer. The front seats are nice and spacious too. But if you're riding in the back, you'll more than likely be squashed. The drink holder are too big as well. I've had Mountain Do intereir a few times.

Strength:

Combo of headroom and tall windshield gives the best visibility for tall drivers of any 1/2 ton on the market. Comfortable 60/40 split bench seat. Steering, suspension, brakes are greatly improved over pre-97 Fords.( smaller motors are NOT an improvement.) Less tiring to drive than most vehicles including some plushy passenger cars like the Honda Accord.5 spd. manual much better than the auto trans for the 4.2 and 4.6 motors.Starts easily even at minus 30 deg.The heavy rubber flooring in the XL is more practical than carpeting in the XLT model. The XL value package gets you some very useable options in cluding very good Goodyear Wrangler tires. The manual transfer case shifter takes 2 months to break in , then is very smooth to use. The 4.6L with Manual gets 21-23 mpg CDN, while a rental vehicle I tried with 4.6L, supercab and auto trans got 18-19 mpg CDN for comparison

Weakness:

Poor ride and control on washboard gravel. Limited towing ability--the 4.6L motor is pushed to the limit to pull my ultralight 2000 lb. travel trailer.Wind resistance is as big a problem as weight, but it shows that the 5.4L motor is necessary to pull even the lightest travel trailer.

Honest appraisal of this truck and comparison to others tried. My truck is a 2000 f-150 4WD reg. cab, SWB,5 spd. Manual, with the 4.6L V-8. Very good light duty truck, comfortable, great visibility, but the 4.6L motor is not the choice for any towing. The 5.4L motor is a better choice for towing and will cost approx. $ 500 more in gas for a year's driving.

Strength:

Good looks, plenty of power with the 5.4, decent mileage for a real truck.

Weakness:

Unreliable, unreliable, unreliable!!

Beautiful truck; but beauty is only skin deep. This truck is the most troublesome and expensive vehicle I''''ve owned. Plenty of power, and gas mileage has been about average for a 4x4 truck with a best of 18 mpg on the highway, average of about 15 mpg city/hwy. Started having problems just before the factory warranty ran out with the typical leaking cylinder head gasket. Had a new head replaced by Ford. Just after warranty ran out, the driver''''s window started making noise when it went up and down. Then the truck started running poorly and stumbling on acceleration, bad MAF sensor. There is a clunking noise under the truck that the dealer can''''t find and can''''t fix. The wipers come on for no apparent reason every so often. The MAF sensor went bad, again, and the truck is running poorly, again. No more new Fords! I''''m going back to a Nissan Pathfinder for the wife, and a restored `79 Ford F250 for me.

Tons of room....great engine...many aftermarket parts (Body lift..grille guards...etc) great truck! not a flaw!

Weakness:

this is to address anyone who complains about their Ford truck making too much engine noise?.....its a TRUCK...not a car....Trucks are made to be used off-road....on the work site....hauling things...not to drive around for show...thats what wussy TOYOTAS are for :)

Great truck....I haven''t had an ounce of trouble with it....V6 4.2 w/ 46,000 miles...auto...XLT...bought it with 36,000. I treat it wonderfully and it does the same for me! Towing and pulling with the V6 is surprisingly easy. 205 hp is enough for me. Sounds like every truck with a V8 has problems nowadays. Wonderful truck :)

Bought tis truck to replace 88 Ford 150sc. The V-6 was noisy and about half the time it sounded like the bottom was about to drop out. did not drive or ride as well as the 88. gas milage was less then sticker by about 2 miles per gallon. all my other ford products have consistantly got at least 10% better gas mileage then was on the sticker

Advertising by ford that it will stand by this truck

Weakness:

ford will not stand by this truck. I took it to ford for a 30000 mile check up and they did not notice that the differential was making noise. 2 months later, it is being repaired big time. The same dealer has been looking at this truck for 4 years and not said anything about unusual noises from the back. So much for service checkups.

The differential bearings are being replaced at 31,000mi. I have not pulled anything and have treated the truck like a pet. Not even off road travel. The axle bearings are also being replaced. I either have a lemon or ?. $1200 cost

Strength:

Lot''''s of power and useable torque, looks nice, decent ride.

Weakness:

Cylinder head leak, handling is downright scary, unreliable, weird suspension noises. Interior feels cheap and has lot''''s of quality problems.

I bought this truck to replace my wife''''s `97 Nissan Pathfinder. We wanted something with more power and more utility so we could eventually buy a 24'''' RV trailer to camp with. We drove all the trucks from the Big Three and my wife liked the F150 the best, plus we got a great deal on the price. Our problems started a week after we bought it when we noticed the smell of burning oil coming from under the hood. Luckily, it was still under warranty and the dealer replaced the passenger-side cylinder head. Research revealed that this is a very common problem on the new Ford Triton V8s. After we had the head replaced, we noticed a strange clunking noise under our feet. Two dealerships have yet to discover the source. Last week, the engine developed a severe miss at 1400-1800 RPM when driving. No "check engine" lights come on, so the mechanics don''''t know what''''s wrong. I owned the Nissan for 53,000 trouble-free miles and NEVER had to have it worked on. I can''''t believe Ford is charging $32,000 for this POS. They should pay US to drive their poorly engineered death-traps. If you think this truck rates high in crash testing, check out the off-set frontal crash tests; worst in the industry! Handling is also very dangerous. Drive down the highway at 60 mph, then change lanes quickly to simulate avoiding a collision. You can feel the rear-end want to fish-tail and you nearly lose control doing a fairly mild manuever. Can''''t wait until Nissan comes out with their new full-size pickup Spring 2003. I just hope this thing lasts that long.
