Strength:
Solid built, durable truck. Dependable.
Weakness:
Front brakes I bought the truck new. It now has 181000 miles on it. It has been great for 10 years now. The only problems I''ve had were a transmission rebuild at 146000 mi and it is hard on front brakes. In talking to other owners, that seems to be a common problem in early 90''s Fords. The engine is still solid and uses no oil. The body has held up well with no rust. I have the 4.9L straight 6. (Ford never should have stopped making this engine.)It''s not hugh on power but has enough to tow 2 Harleys. I use for daily commute, heading into the mountains for hunting and fishing, moving and whatever comes along. |

4.6L V8 has serious design problems 5 speed transmission has serious design problems Seats designed to make chiropractors rich! First new vehicle purchase for me. Coming from a "Ford" family, I thought I couldn''t go wrong with an ''01 F150 Supercab 4x4. Was I ever wrong. I have owned the vehicle less than a year, and have less than 22,000 miles on it. In that time it has had the 4.6L V8 replaced twice due to oil leaks, the master clutch cylinder for the 5 speed replaced once, and has been in the shop in excess of 30 days total. The new benche seats are a cross between a bucket and a bench, and are uncomfortable beyond all. The transmission should be bullet proof, and is anything but. The engine, while having lots of power, appears to only be good for 15,000 (the longest that either of my first two lasted). I expected a lot better from Ford. I am now looking at the imports to see if I can find a Toyota or Nissan to meet my needs. I''m just glad that Wisconsin has a Lemon Law. F-150 Regular cab XLT Sport
Strength:
Like the XLT Sport package, many options. Much more interior space than a regular cab Tundra. Great power from the V6. Seems to be very good quality.
Weakness:
Wish I''d gotten the limited slip rear axle. Engine sounds kind of noisy (sounds like lifters or valve noise). Lots of plastic trim makes it more difficult to wax. This is a great truck. I''ve got 15K miles in 7 months. I needed reliable transportation that could also haul my work equipment. I opted for the 4.2L V6 instead of the V8 due to fuel economy. With the 5 speed manual it gets 20-22 mpg on the highway at 80 mph. In the city it drops down to 15 mpg with my lead foot. The 4.2L has pleanty of power for cruising or towing. I''ve towed a 6,000 pound generator with it several times, and it had no problems. I would not recommend the auto transmission with the V6, as it will suck the life out of the motor, making it dismal to drive. no kitchen sink 2000 F-150 Lariat Supercab Offroad pkg. with 5.4 liter Bought this truck new two years ago. Wow, what a truck! This truck was bought to pull a 30'' travel trailer and can do it with ease. I get great mileage when not pulling and net bad when pulling. My wife and I tried all other brands out there and the Fords just plain outride the competition! We have had no problems with this truck and it sure turns heads with the dark chestnut paint with gold trim! The leather seats are the most comfortable than the competition and with the captains chairs you get the optional 6 disc changer (great feature). This truck is the best! Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCab
Strength:
Features, Lariat package, color selection, fit and finish are top notch, good interior materials, flawless paint.
Weakness:
The 01 4.6 engine was supposedly bumped in power but it is a dog compared to my two previous 4.6 engines. The transmission doesn''t know what it wants to do. Seats are miserable and backseat is tight. This is my third current model F-150. I had a 98 and a 99 that were trouble-free. This 2001 is a real piece of junk. The 4.6 engine is gutless and vibrates, surges, and stalls at random. The transmission is beginning to act up and not shift properly. The power drivers side window bangs around inside the door. Ford has tried to fix the engine three times, the window twice, unsuccessfully. They now think that the transmission is causing the engine problem. This is the most expensive vehicle I''ve purchased to date and powertrain problems are unacceptable in any price range. The window problem doesn''t bother me as much. The new seat design is nice but after two hours you can''t walk, they are too firm. I love the features it has; power pedals, signal mirrors, 17 inch chrome wheels but I''d rather have a stripped model that ran right. I am very disappointed and after owning a junk 98 Explorer, I need a break from Ford. This is the 9th brand new Ford in a row for me and the wife. Three of the last four have been bad. My wife just bought a Toyota Highlander and I am shopping for a Tundra. Similar Products Used: 98 and 99 F-150 XLT supercabs with 4.6 V-8s. |

I tower over all the other cars on the road and it gives me a nice false sense of superiority! Everyone looks at me in this big bad beast and would never guess that i''''m really just compensating for something very, very small! When i''''m in this truck, I have the illusion of being intimidating. It''''s great!!
Weakness:
Ugly! (duh, it''''s a truck) poor handling (it''''s a truck!) slow (you get the point) I raised this bad boy. I got a good 2 feet of ground clearance. Yeehaw!! Similar Products Used: None |

F-150 XL
Strength:
Looks, handling, confortable ride, decent power, good factory stereo sound.
Weakness:
Engine failure after 65K, constant brake rotor/pad issues. Major engine problems on a 65K truck that has been "babied" since I bought it brand new. I was just informed that it needed a new engine because of severely low oil pressure. Tasca Ford in East Providence, RI said "it''s the oil pump, but we won''t replace it because experience tells us that the engine will go within a month." Such confidence! Excessive coolant loss and weird oil color suggest to me that the head gasket is the problem. Why would an engine with less than 66K need to be replaced when it has NEVER towed anything or been driven hard? It''s not even a work truck! Brake rotors have been machined once under warranty, then replaced at 45,000 miles. Dealer told me it was a waste of time contacting Ford. Fine, then I will go back to Toyota for my next vehicle. Its got umph!!! It also has TONS of room.
Weakness:
A little high so getting stuff out of the bed can be hard sometimes... but OH WELL! I am still the envy of the other soccer moms :) Envy of all soccer moms!!!!! I have the best truck. I love every bit of it. I have an F150 supercrew lariat 4x4 off road with a 5.4 V8. You have to climb to get in it and I love it. I love the four wheel drive. I love the crash test ratings. I love that it is big enough to hold an infant carseat and not require the front passenger to eat the dash. I love having a truck bed instead of my former suv cargo space. I love that ford will make a front bench seat in leather. I also like the gas milage not bad for a big truck. Most of all I love how ppl get out of my way now!!!
