Ford F-150 (2010 and older) Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

The Ford F-150 pickup can haul more cargo and tow a heavier trailer than any of its competitors. And with a fully boxed frame, the F-150 has the strongest chassis in its class. Engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than your most difficult tasks, the F-150 is Built Ford Tough to come through with the dependability you expect in this full-size pickup.

The current F-150 does come in a host of cab, bed, powertrain, and suspension variations; there are three cab configurations with multiple wheelbases and box lengths each, providing choices to satisfy just about any trucker's need with the F-150. Properly outfitted, the F-150 can tow 10,700 pounds--while earning five-star frontal crash-test scores. A choice of V-8 engines comes with either four- or six-speed automatic transmissions, but no V-6 engine option is offered.

Rearend makes a noise when I let off the gas Ford says its normal and I've heard other Ford truck owners say their's does the same thing

Excellent truck.Myne has the 4.6L V8 with the automatic in it,solid running motor gets good gas mileage and runs 110% all the time.I like the 3rd door option with the ext. cab models too.I'll probally keep this truck as long as I can

Strength:

Great durability, towing capacity, and payload. Has always started on the 3rd crank of the ignition, and has never left me stranded. The 4.9L engine. Too bad they stopped making them!

Weakness:

8.8" rear end (would have been better with a 9"). Also, a cheap plastic bushing holds the clutch pedal to the clutch master cylinder. I've had to replace several of these, and finally had it machined with a cotter pin. This was dangerous, as when the bushing broke or wore out, I couldn't shift. The internal slave cylinder is a bad design. Also, it would be nice if the 4.9L had a little higher RPM range.

I bought this a year old and with 50,000 miles on it. Since then, I've racked up over 120,000 miles total and I fully expect to keep it running for another 120,000 miles. I later found out that the original owner had a bad front end collision. It's a 5-speed/4.9L straight six, that gets 13.7 mpg highway or in town. It doesn't have "sports car" handling like I've heard some people complain about, but that's not what its for. It's got good low end power, but gasps for air over 70mph. I tow a 18' boat at 65mph with it, but it runs out of air on the hills. Soon after I bought it, the internal slave cylinder went out ($500). Two years later, the rear end grenaded, but was covered under my extended warantee with only 2 days left. A $1508 repair covered fully by a $1500 warantee. I just replaced the original clutch - which I find amazing that it lasted this long with all my towing, and some front end bushings. Not unexpected for a 4x4 with 120,000 miles. I've been very pleased with it, and have had only a few problems with it.

Strength:

- POWERFUL 5.0L V8. - Looks (Stepside bed) and squared off frontal design...looks like a TRUCK. - Very reliable. - Soft suspension - Smooth shifting AOD 4spd. trans.

Weakness:

- Wooden bed was never treated, and it starting to rot - Suspension creaks every now and then. - Since this is my restoration project, it is HARD to find replacement parts in good shape.

Wow. This truck has been awesome. The body style of this one, is the rare OLD styled Stepside bed, with the wooden floored bed and the solid steel tailgate. Not only does this truck really have the 50's styling that I find so appealing, its a very mechanically well built truck. It has the discontinued 5.0L 302ci V8, which I think is a bullet-proof engine. Most of it is still stock, besides what I did to it (K&N Coldair Intake, Dual Core Radiator, Throttlebody spacer, Magnaflow Dual exhaust, etc), it runs like a damned top! A 17 year old engine, with no replacements on it, only takes about 1 second of turning the key and it fires right up, with a rock steady idle of 650 RPMs. Another plus on the power, I know you Chevrolet fans aren't gonna like this, but I've beaten 3 Silerado 2500s and 2 Z71s! I've also pulled a full size Chevrolet conversion van outta the mud with this too. You can see my truck on my site @: http://honch.8k.com under "MY F150."

Strength:

Other than the unresolved defects, this truck operates as one would expect.

Weakness:

This truck contains two defects that Berge Ford and the Ford Motor Company refuse to repair. The entertainment system initally overheated so bad that the Cds would skip. The supplier, Visteon, retrofitted a cooling fan. This fan is excessively noisy. When shifting between 1st and 2nd gear the transmission emits an audible clacking sound.

While this may be the biggest selling pickup truck, the quality is less than acceptable. Design defects and ineffective retrofits make for a dissatsified customer. Ford's customer problem resolution process is flawed. Even though they admit these defects exist, they refuse to resolve them.

Fit and finish are great; no rattles; TERRIFIC POWER; the lowered suspension improves handling; factory equipped with chromed 20" rims; practical 4 door/4 seater; believe me I could go on and on and on and on!

Weakness:

Don't buy this vehicle with a concern of gas mileage. If you have to ask, don't bother buying one.

If you like to have fun, but need a truck, this is the one! Started to pay way too much for the overrated Blackwood, but so glad that I stuck with the good ol' Ford. The supercharged 5.4L is a blast to drive and sounds great when your foots in it! Coming from a BMW 740i sport, I wasn't expecting to be impressed, but I was! No, it's no BMW but I think it's the best package deal of performance and practicality anyone could want. If you live up north like I do, get snows! This torque monster will spin 'em loose on simple wet pavement when you're not even trying.

Smooth comfortable ride and styling. Sufficient power and execellent touque.

Weakness:

None.

I'm completely satisfied with my first truck purchase. I test drove the Dodge 1500 and the chevy 1500. In regards to Dodge, I found the truck to be power freindly but too big and uncomfortable ride. The chevy, very luxuriuous but too pricey with too many problems relating to fires from faulty fuel pumps. Chevy daytime running lights also burn out soon after purchase. The F-150 was the answer with a car like ride, great looks and good hiegth out the factory.

Strength:

Comfortable ride, great view, and performs as well now as it did brand new. Very reliable and great ride.

Weakness:

some design flaws (i.e. oil lines to oil filter), Gas mileage.

When first posted to Cold Lake Air Force Base in 1998 I wanted a vehicle that could get me into the big city of Edmonton, a 3 hr drive from Cold Lake AFB no matter what the weather. The vehicle starts at -40, has run like a Swiss Watch. I did have a sensor in the tranny replaced on warranty and recently had the oil lines to the Oil filter as well as #4 spark plug wire replaced. The Ford Dealers like to charge a fortune for parts and labor so I'll try and stay away from them. All in all a really trustworthy vehicle and one that keeps me interested even after 4 years. It still looks great, runs great and seems to be getting better gas mileage as it gets older.

Strength:

Comfort, reliability, handling. My wife prefers to ride in the truck more than her car.

Weakness:

Poor gas mileage even with the small V8. Might as well get the big engine and have a little more power.

After owning a 1988 F150 straight 6, 5-speed for over 10 years, I sold and bought a 97 F250 7.3 diesel 4X4. I drove it for less than a year, got tired of the noise and fumes and traded it in on this little jewel. It had 30,000 miles on it when I bought it. At first I didn't like it - after getting used to the power of that 7.3. As time went on I complained about the poor gas mileage and the strange way it would shift. In the mean time my friend bought a new 99 Classic Z71 which was a beauty of a truck. From the get go he started having one little problem after another. I still complained about my gas mileage but little else. After driving my truck now for over 2 years, I still complain about the gas mileage and little else. I now know why I kept my 88 F-150 for so long. The 97 F150 basically keeps on trucking with little to no upkeep - starts every morning, the 4-wheel drive is there when I need it, AC works fine, sound system is good; this truck seems to run better with age - I now have 65,000 miles on it. I tow a boat from time to time and use the truck fairly often for hauling with it loaded down. The worst problem I've had was I broke the rear leaf springs on both sides. I had it fixed at a spring shop and had them add an extra springs for good measure. This has improved the ride as well as hauling capability. I put a set of slightly oversize Cooper mud/rain traction tires on it. That did the trick. This truck now displays all the characteristics of another 10 year wonder as I continue make little upgrades here and there. Had it compounded, waxed and glazed a month ago and now she really shines. With all the 0% interest offers going on, I was tempted to trade her in -on a new Z71 - but now... Naaaaaa - she'll do just fine for a while longer and so will I as soon as I make that last payment coming up month after next.

Smooth ride, lots of power for a mid size truck, good lucks, definetly fun to drive.

Weakness:

Sometimes I get V8 mileage and the braking sometimes seems like its not even there. Well its something I gotta get used to going from a 4 cylinder car to a 6 cylinder truck.

This is my first time owning a truck and I love every minute of it. The 4.3L definetly hauls when you give it gas and is stylish. I like the throaty sound of the exhaust at rev and how it sounds hitting the override. They are easy to hook up and the ride is nice and smooth when you need it to be and rough when you are looking offroad.
