brakes, gas milage (but it is a truck) Truck has over 62,000 miles on it. It was in the shop 1 time at about 3000 miles because the check engine light came on. The main gripe i have with it is the front brake pads replaced at 25,000 miles and the front rotors and all pads replaced at 50,000. Other than that it has been the best truck i have ever owned. I have order a 2004 and i hope i have as good luck with it as i have my 2001. Similar Products Used: 94 f150 99 f150 |

F150 4x4 XL, ext.cab, 4.6l.
Strength:
Starts, decent ride, adequet passenger room, ground clearence, fuel milage (aprox 17 mpg highway).
Weakness:
Doors rattle over rough roads (3dr), poor accelleration and lack of power, too many mechanical problems for low milage on a well maintained truck, cab noise (poor insulation), poor seat comfort on passenger side (no lumbar support), no storage space inside. I bought my F150 last year at Cariboo GM. It had only 70 000 kms on it. Since it was older, I decided to buy a 2 year warranty on it despite the low milage. Thank god for that extra bit of piece and mind. Since then, 20 000 km's later, I have replaced the Torque Converter (automatic trans.)upper control arms and ball joints, rotors, door switches for interior lights, and pitman arm. Despite the weaknesses and strengths the overall unit is a fair buy for a truck that rides like a truck. My reccomendation is to go with the F250 for towing or hauling. in my opinion if the ford got used like a trk it would really fall apart
Weakness:
clutch problems from almost new--such as pedal wont return all the way up--shakes the truck when u take off--clutch master cyl very noisy-wont come out of 4-wheel drive--binds so bad when in 4wd u can only go straight when backin up-exhaust leaks- i got this new ford trk for a birthday present and thought--wow best present ever.to my surprize this has been the absolute worst vehicle i have ever owned.it has been in for a reoccuring cluth problem along with a lot of poor workmanship issues--seems it comes back with more problems from the dealer than it went with-i hav tried 5-6 times to get these issues repaired at the dealer level and now am dealing with ford mtr company to try--im thinking it will be a lemon law trk--i wish now i would have got an old chevy for my birthday-at least i would have a dependable trk Similar Products Used: i own a 1972 chevy chevelle--i know its a car but that is what i use my new f-150 for and i have owned it for over 20 yrs with 221,00 miles i have have less trouble with the chevy in 20 yrs than i hav |

Ford F-150 Flareside XLT
Strength:
Fairly reliable. I've never had any serious breakdowns yet. Transmission is still running strong at 255,000km. Stock rims don't look all that bad, but I replaced them anyways. Interior is much nicer than the Chev's 92 version. Very fun truck to drive. Flareside version looks sharp with some upgrades (I've added things like a Billet Grille, Rollpan, Euro tails, nicer rims + rubber, etc).
Weakness:
When I bought the truck it came with a totally beefed up exhaust system. Mufflers, Headers, the works... Also came with a K&N Filter. Now I thought these were supposed to IMPROVE gas milage. I get just over 11MPG (And the engine is only a 302!). Both fuel pumps are fairly screwed up also(Which I have heard is a problem with most Fords around 1992). The engine is not the most powerful (Good thing it has overdrive because passing people is sometimes a challenge, but it can burn rubber off if you know what your doing (I am running P295/50R15 and it will turn those 12" wide tires right off). Paint tends to chip fairly easily (But I guess it does drive a lot of gravel). The dash on the passenger side tends to move around (I have a friend with a 92' ford also and he has the same problem), and can rattle around if your stereo is too loud (I have 2 12" subs so if your running the stock stereo your fine). Rear sliding window also rattles a bit. My first truck. I've always been a Chevy fan but I have driven a 92 and 93 GMC and I like the Ford a lot better. It's fully loaded, which is nice. Engine is a V8 302. Similar Products Used: Have driven 2 different 92' GMC and a 93' GMC. |

Weakness:
I didn't get the supercharged version which came out in 2002. :( Girls never stop staring. This is my first vehicle and it has definately set a high standard me. I am now ADDICTED to Ford. Every other car I have riden in (especially imports) doesn't satisfy my driving needs. This baby can do everything such as carry high payload of "stuff" and chicks plus it looks good doing it. I feel like the king of the road in the most comfortable seats my 'bum' has ever touched. I haven't had one single problem in the 21 months I have owned this baby. I am seriously....in love! Versatile huge comfortable cab fun to drive does great on snow and ice and mountain's great visibility turns reasonably sharp great family vehicle
Weakness:
none yet - it has been a great vehicle. I hope it will be extremely reliable. My old truck died. I needed a vehicle that could haul adult passengers, a reasonable sized payload, do well in snow and ice (Montana), and do well on eroded, rocky, unmaintained forest service roads. I think I bought the perfect vehicle. It is truly a fun vehicle to drive and rides extremely well. I am tired but not exhausted after a 12 hour trip. It get's reasonably good (not great) gas milage for such a big vehicle. Thus far it has been reliable. I like my truck and look for excuses to drive it. Similar Products Used: previous pickups include: 1950's International and a 1957, 1968 and 1986 Chevy pickups. I have always had a pickup to drive, so I use them for a very long time. |

You name it....unreliable, undependable, defective factory paint, stalling when idling, engine failure at only 67,000 miles...and I babied this truck from day one! Also Ford is terrible for customer service. I thought I was buying a vehicle that would give me many years of good use. Lemon, Lemon, Lemon. Have had nothing but trouble with it during my 6 years of ownership. While still under warranty, I took it in several times for the "check engine" light coming on on lenghty trips...and for the engine cutting out badly at stop lights and stalling...kept being told that nothing was wrong and was probably bad gas! Then at 67k miles, within a ONE MONTH period, the master cylinder went out, the starter failed (almost causing a fire under the hood), I had to replace the ENGINE!! (one of those "rare" things I was told by Ford), all the spark plug wires needed replaced, and the cruise control stopped working. To make matters worse, I was involved in a minor fender bender (<$2,000 damage) and was told by the bodyshop that my paint is CHECKING...that I have DEFECTIVE paint...from the factory. Ford acknowledges this but refuses to do anything. So, $5,000 later (paint still has not been corrected), I am driving around in a lemon...which stalled on me twice last week... and am getting absolutely no assistance from either Ford or the dealership. |

F150 4x4
Strength:
Reliable, comfortable to drive, not as loud as I expected for a 4x4. Average 17.84mpg, 14-16mpg when pulling trailer.
Weakness:
None that I have experienced. We purchased this truck at 3 years old and 89K miles for my BF to use for work. He drove it for a year and a half pulling a work trailer and never had a problem with it but the load was starting to wear on it so he decided to buy an F250 (which we traded our 1999 lemon of a Jeep G. Cherokee for). I have driven this truck from 8/01 until now and I must say that I am a converted Ford fan! It now has over 150K miles and has forgiven the previous abuse. I would definitely choose a Ford over a Chrysler anyday! Side note: While BF was pulling the trailer with it a small twister uprooted large pine trees just in front of him. He floored it and was able to clear the truck although the trailer was hit. If it hadn't been powerful enough, he may have been killed!
