Ford F-150 (2010 and older) Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

The Ford F-150 pickup can haul more cargo and tow a heavier trailer than any of its competitors. And with a fully boxed frame, the F-150 has the strongest chassis in its class. Engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than your most difficult tasks, the F-150 is Built Ford Tough to come through with the dependability you expect in this full-size pickup.

The current F-150 does come in a host of cab, bed, powertrain, and suspension variations; there are three cab configurations with multiple wheelbases and box lengths each, providing choices to satisfy just about any trucker's need with the F-150. Properly outfitted, the F-150 can tow 10,700 pounds--while earning five-star frontal crash-test scores. A choice of V-8 engines comes with either four- or six-speed automatic transmissions, but no V-6 engine option is offered.

Strength:

Seemed like a great truck when new. Gradually started having a lot of problems. (see weeknesses)

Weakness:

Paint is terrible. The front brakes wore completely out at 40,000 miles destroying the rotors in the process. The dealer refused to replace them free although they saw the truck regularly for oil changes, etc and nobody noticed the uneven wear. Then the most devistating thing happened. On August 9/2000 the right inner tie rod end un-coupled and I lost total control of the truck. Luckily, I got it stopped without an accident. A repair shop informed me that most of the suspension parts are also shot. I believe the main cause of this is the fact that ford chooses not to put grease fittings on the ball joints, tie rod ends , etc. The aftermarket parts have grease fitting on them. So, a very dangerous situation exists with the steering of 1997 F-150's.I have contacted Ford and am waiting for a reply. I will update later. In the meantime, judge for yourself if you want to buy a ford truck.

Paid 37,000 Canadian. Would NOT recommend.

None. However I have a 1985 Grand Marquis with the original front end. They have grease fittings and approx 150,000 miles on them.

Weakness:

4.6lt engine not enough guts for any medium hauling, Transmission went out at 10,000 miles, sound system could be better,

Overall the truck rides as good as any car out there. All controls our very easily accessible and function perfectly. The truck has more good qualities than bad except for the following:

1. 4.6lt engine is a nice engine for city and highway driving but if you haul or doing any above average 4x4, opt for the 5.4, it's worth the price difference and milage.

2. What is with a transmission that only lasted 10,000 miles before loosing reverse and the top 2 gears in a driveway. The dealership replaced it ASAP but it was winter time and they gave me a Taurus in its place for two weeks. You try to take all your construction tools in the field in the trunk of a car after paying $26,000 for truck designed to accomplish this feat.

3. Sound system is one the worse in its class. Volume is terrible, very little difference between half and full. Also, has poor sound quality for a stock radio. The only plus is the range of radio reception is very good. I agree this what they make after market systems for, but, for the price of the stock systems they should be a hell of alot better or at least give us truck buyers the option of the Ford Mach System.

Strength:

Good acceleration for a truck, can toast the riced out civics off the line. Great pulling power, front seat is roomy, rear isn't a Caddy, and this truck don't zig.

Weakness:

Gas mileage, but what do you expect from a big domestic V8? Also, it's a ford.

Good, but Tundra is better. Why buy American, when you can get a better import for less? Like a said though, it is a decent truck.

Toyota Tundra completely flattens it in every possible facet of existence.

Strength:

This is a great looking truck! I love the old body style. My truck is customised and becoming a real beauty. It is really reliable. The engine pickup is impressive(5.0 L). I take it on long camping trips on bumpy dirt roads. I have 2WD and am surprised at it's ability off road. At 80,000 plus miles, I am greatful that I still can trust it in any situation. The super cab is large and the seats are comfortable enough for even friends as big as me (6'4").

Weakness:

My only problem has been alignment. I have had to have it adjusted about four times. I think that this might also be from taking it on rocky and bumpy roads. Otherwise I havent had one engine problem in approxiamately two years. I only had it tuned once. The gas mileage is about 12-14 mpg in town and 18-20 mpg on the highway (not too bad). The lumbar broke on the passenger side.

I paid about 16,000 in 1998, including a 12 month/12K warranty. The truck had factory alloy rims(which I still have and like), 5.0L V8 (200 Hp at 4,000 rpm), 8,000 pound tow package, 2WD, Super Cab, short bed, Pioneer CD, No Dents and nice two tone paint(truck is now white), custom factory front and rear bumper, chrome all over, and a camper shell.
-Custom parts for this model are generally cheap and abundant.
-The last year with a truly classic, tough truck look
-I have a 7' short bed which is perfect for camping in with a camper shell and has plenty of space for cargo. (and looks good)
-a great truck for active, outdoor people that still want to look good driving around town.
- I have a billet grill and custom chrome bumper with a billet insert and halogen fog lights (400 dollars), smitty bilt nerf bars, custom two stage white paint job, Rebel Snug-Top, Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks, BFG Radial All-Terrain tires.

Strength:

Styling, Power, Torque, Drivetrain, 4x4, Comfortable Interior. A great runner that put's the chevys to shame. Legendary 300 Inline Six engine. Ease of working on and a pleasure to drive. Nice stock stereo system. Everything a guy or gal could ask for. Brakes, suspension, and steering are top notch.

Weakness:

None. But if you want to be picky (extremely) The ease of use of the rear tire carrier.

This vehicle has really been thought out by Ford. It is one of the best design for it's year (1994) The sytling, the ride, the powertrain, and the engine. Ford's 300 inline six engine is said to go beyond 300,000 miles. It really is a shame that this engine that they produced for so long had to be put on hiatus. It has the same kick as the new v-6, but has more torque and seems more well built and tougher. The 4x4 is all manual, which is fine by me, never fails and always works. I have a 302 Explorer with an automatic and i use it to haul a 26 foot boat. Ironicly the 300 will tow it more effciently and faster with less working of the engine. It's not the fastest truck however i wouldn't trade it for anything! The first two months i bought it i whipped the hell out of it doing brake torques and everything. When i realized how much of a work of art this truck was - I take it easy on her now. Also - I went to work on the engine (i put a oil temp guage in) and it has been the easiest engine i have ever been able to work on since my 1969 Chevelle 396! The Best Trucks Never Rest!!!

Looks, handles, and rides good.

Weakness:

the motor is junk! just bought the truck 2 months ago with 28,000 miles on it now has just under 31k and the motor has to be replaced, because it threw a rod. My truck is not the only one I know of either, dealerships in towns close to mine have told me that they have replaced a couple others that have had similar problems. In my opinion this is a motor with good power for a v-6, but yet also a weak motor that can barely handle any stress put on it.

At the time I bought the truck I thought it was a good deal. I just didn't know that two months later I would be without a truck for a while because the motor blew. I would recommend the ford if you don't have a lot to spend, but if money is no object spend a little more and get a better truck. A CHEVY!!!

Strength:

I use it for construction, and never lost a day due to repairs, I find this pick up to be extremely reliable.I really enjoy the torque and horsepower this truck offers, and although it's a 4x4 it handles pretty good. The ride is better than alot of cars out there, the safety factor is also great.I've used(and abused ) this truck and it has always performed to my satisfaction. In case anyone is curious, I have 140,000kmson it and I'm looking forward to another 5or 10 years service from this truck.

Weakness:

Not a great gas saving machine!
I do not like the room in the standard cab, that's why I opted for the super cab
the tires supplied from the factory are poor at best I put a set of 6 ply Michlens on to suite my needs

I paid $24000 for this truck and I already recommended it to a friend and he feels the same as I do.If your loking for an economy type pick up this is not the truck for you but, if your looking for a good solid working truck BUY the F-150
