Ford F-150 (2010 and older) Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

The Ford F-150 pickup can haul more cargo and tow a heavier trailer than any of its competitors. And with a fully boxed frame, the F-150 has the strongest chassis in its class. Engineered and tested to withstand more punishment than your most difficult tasks, the F-150 is Built Ford Tough to come through with the dependability you expect in this full-size pickup.

The current F-150 does come in a host of cab, bed, powertrain, and suspension variations; there are three cab configurations with multiple wheelbases and box lengths each, providing choices to satisfy just about any trucker's need with the F-150. Properly outfitted, the F-150 can tow 10,700 pounds--while earning five-star frontal crash-test scores. A choice of V-8 engines comes with either four- or six-speed automatic transmissions, but no V-6 engine option is offered.

Model Reviewed: F-150 XLT Lariat Supercab LWB

Strength:

This truck is invincible! The previous owner had an "original" driving style that seemed to put it into a lot of trees and ditches. Dented her up, but didn't phase the functionality a bit. This is the limo of pickups: Supercab, followed by 8ft of bed. Yet, it still has feather touch steering and can manuever much better than my standard cab Chevy. With four extremely unmatched tires (1 goodyear bias belted mudder, 1 firestone radial street, 1 uniroyal radial street, and an american general bias street) it still rides incredibly smooth and has little to no body roll. Electrical system, even though all wiring looks stripped and messed up, is mostly functional! Sounds like a race car. Could pull the moon out of the sky if I had a chain that long.

Weakness:

On cold days, you actually have to warm up the rebuilt 302. Wait, you're supposed to do that anyway. ok, then I guess mileage is a bit rough. Back and forth to town (10 miles at 40-55mph) and around town, it gets about 7mpg. Interstate however, gets up to 17mpg. How about that spread? Little slow on acceleration, but that's the gearing.

I bought the truck with around 150000 miles (mostly offroad) 100000 on the rebuilt 302. $325 was a very fair price. Many of the problems were easily repaired, it just took somebody who knew what to do. I bought it just for a work/backup truck, but I keep seeing my self using it in place of the Chevy more and more. Only thing I can't do with this truck is go to California! They'd arrest me at the border for emmissions (previous owner's hommade dual exaust.) This ol' beast may take a while to get there, but she can run nearly 100, and she's actually geared for pullin. If you want a truck that just won't die, go find yourself an old Ford. The best never rest.

1988 C1500 Cheyenne w/4.3 V6. The Chevy's kinder on gas, but turns like a school bus compared to the Ford. Chevy's faster, but it's an unfair comparison because it's a much lighter truck. The Ford, with only front brakes engaging, stops better than a fully functional Chevy.

Strength:

The 460 engine with the special heads, degreed cam, headers, etc. push this comfortably over 400 hp, on unleaded regular gas! I pass any diesel on all long and short grades. Any stock truck while towing a ton less weight will be overtaken on an uphill grade.

Weakness:

All that horsepower and 4.11 gears add up to about 8 miles per gal.

Reason for rating is that this truck is a higher quality ride, looks like new, and was about 10% the cost of a new three qtr ton full size.

Strength:

Beautifull exterior/Interior looks, power, dependability-ruggedness

Weakness:

Headrests rattle, tapeplayer motor makes terrible moaning noise, shifts a little rough from 1st into 2nd, oilpan gasket goes bad, rust

Overall F-150s are a smooth sleek truck with lots of power, I never did any towing worth mentioning with it but I can tell it could more than handle it, good acceleration, however definetly not a sports car (even though I may have tried to drive it like one), terrible body lean around corners even going slow in town, an anti-sway bar would be nice, the worst part about this truck and all other F-150's pre 97 is they are RUST BUCKETS if you live in an area with snow or they use salt on the roads it WILL rust out, and in a hurry, my dad has been a bodyman for years and can NOT fix the rust above the rear wheel wells, it resurfaces about a month after fixing, "fixed" it twice on my old truck, and now my 94 is breaking out already :(.

Strength:

Great looking truck, good sound system, handles very nicely without a load, engine is adaquate without a load, nice pickup

Weakness:

Front breaks, like all my ford trucks, had to be replaced at 10000 along with the rotars. Front torsion bar broke at 20,000 miles and was told this was common on F150's. Suspension is too weak in rear had to add helper springs. Towing my horse trailer, not enough power. Handles poorly in deep snow even with the four wheel drive. Bottom line I should have stuck to the F250 with the larger engine.

Overall performance was great, when you consider I only have the F150. I still will choose it against any other make vehicle. My wife loves driving it and without a load it rides smoother than our car. Cruise control on the Ford trucks is great because it maintains speed even when towing or pulling up steep hills (within reason of course). When selecting the size truck you want don't expect it to do more than its rating.

Similar Products Used:

F250HD 4x4. For rough handling pulling and handling under load the F250 far exceeds any other vehicle I have driven. The F150 just isn't up to comparing with the F250, which is to be expected.

Weakness:

the extended cab door is not easy to get in/out of when parked next to another vehicle.

I haven't had any problems with the truck. I've used it quite extensively to haul lumber for my new deck. The baby seat fits well in the extended cab; just have to make sure you get the smaller car seat base. It has nice power and pickup and the manual trans. is fun to drive.

Over all, a great truck.

Weakness:

None found.

Bought new 2000 V6 2W and manual. It has been a great truck with no problems. With gas I have been getting around 17 city and 21 highway. Good towing/hauling with what I have and does well in snow. The place I bought it from, the staff have been friendly and helpful when I have had a question.

Note that this is a truck not a car and will never be or act like a car.

Looks good, tows good (mostly).

Weakness:

Where to start... About two weeks after I bought the truck, there was a clunking noise from under the truck, sounded like U-Joints, but that wasn't the problem. Service department said to keep driving it and the noise should go away after it get some miles on it...(whatever). After about a month the noise was still there (of course) so I took it in, spent 3 weeks in the shop.
The stereo speakers had to be replaced and the windows stuck on me once, now the drivers window is slow to roll up.
My buddies Chevy is faster and it has a smaller engine. He has a 5.3 I have the 5.4.
And the passenger side airbag popped out when I hit a curb going about 5 miles per hour.

I'm going to trade it in when I save enough money, mabe buy a Chevy this time.
