Strength:

Great concept. Lots of nice features. Unfortunately, not mechanically sound.

Weakness:

Transmission, gas mileage, vehicle shakes, A/C cycles constantly, brakes grab, very unsafe, very poor reliability.

Very disappointed in the quality. Have less than 10,000 miles and already had trans and rear end problems. Trans still whines. A/C problems, brake problems. My advice don't buy.

Strength:

Power, nice color (silver with leather interior), every option available. Smooth driving for a truck, it has a bed!, nice adio system, but it really could use a little bit bigger sub in the back. It only came with a 6" sub.

Weakness:

None yet.

Amazing truck. I loved it the first time I saw it in 2001! I had to have one. It's a bit pricey, but if you can afford it, go for it. I wish I had done a little more research via internet before I went and purchased it, because the dealer knew NOTHING about the truck!!! He told me that they didn't come with an optional sunroof, and lied about a few other things as well. But despite all that, it's still a great truck, I actually look forward to driving now!

I test drove the Escape as well, and it's like a toy compared to the Sport Trac.

Strength:

Roomy, rugged enough for a man but a woman could definately benefit. Love the rear slide down window and the cargo extender.

Weakness:

Very hard to find after market wheels and tires. Wanted 22" wheels but cannot fit the sport trac. Metal door handles and trimming inside is starting to rub off and the warranty doesn't cover that from my understanding

After shopping around for different SUV's for the money the Sport Trac is an all around wonderful vehicle. Smooth ride and wonderful Pioneer 6 disc sound system. I've driven SUV's like the Escalade and Navigator but the Sport Trac is not far behind in luxurious features.

Strength:

Power rear window Cool look Smooth ride Durable bed Great interior Tons of room (both leg and head)

Weakness:

Gas mileage Seems a little timid where acceleration is concerned Some wind noise BUT...all are overshadowed by the positives of the Sport Trac

I purchased my Sport Trac about 1 week ago. Too soon to tell if any of the new car gremlins will come out. But so far so good. I love my Sport Trac and would recommend it to anyone wanting the room of an SUV without giving up the bed of a pickup. Great features and great look! Great service at the Ford dealership in Salina.

Strength:

Comfortable rideing, plenty of room, awesome stereo! Electric sunroof and climate controls and rear slideing window and sturdy accessible running boards!!

Weakness:

A little more base needed in sound system

Love This Sports Trac! Traded in a 2001 Pontiac Aztec for the SUV and the best trade I've ever made! Very comfortable rideing, plenty of room, Great A/C and Sound System is nice with the 6 CD changer would like a little more base sound. No Complaints what so ever with the vehicle....plan on keeping this awesome truck for a L O N G time! Love the electric sunroof and climate controls and the large rear slideing window! Bought a fiberglass ARE lid for the pickup bed and it makes the truck. Love the design of the running boards very accessible to getting in and out of the truck. One word for this truck! "Awesome"

Model Reviewed: Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4x4

Strength:

Rugged and durable. Nice audio system, and cool floor mats / rubber flooring.

Weakness:

Underpowered V6, needs a V8.

Sport Trac offered, that the F-150 does not. Some of these things consist of: The easy to read white-faced gauges. These came in handy both during the day and at night. I also liked the rubber flooring. It was so easy to clean, and you could use just about anything on it and not have to worry about it staining. The rubber flooring was a good idea and should also be offered in (all) the rangers and F series pickups. The Sport Trac also had some nice trim around its audio / climate controls, and also by the door handle. This gave the Sport Trac a very sporty appeal, and made it eye appealing. The power rear window was also really cool to have. It allowed people in the back seat to get a nice cross breeze. The Audio system (Pioneer) in the Sport Trac was pretty good to. I personally would have wanted more base, but it got loud when you wanted it to. The Six disk in dash was a nice option to because everything was right in front of you as opposed to hidden in the council or in the trunk. The F-150 also has its high points over the Sport Trac. Mostly the V8 and the heated seats. But the Sport Trac had a certain unique style to it that said “This car is capable of a lot more than just being a pickup.” Fords theme for there SUV is “No Boundaries” and from first hand experience with the Sport Trac, I can tell you that this truck could handle all the off road fun that I threw at it, and much more. To me, this SUV was the true definition of what Ford means when it says “No Boundaries!”

Strength:

Looks, versatility, style & comfort. Good, if you have a small family or if you may have to haul small loads. Clean up is a cinch.

Weakness:

Wind noise, rattle in the tailgate & extention, BRAKES are FUBAR.

We loved the Sport Trac when we first got it. (July 2000) It was a looker!! We have been able to haul all kinds of items ranging from Pine Straw to a large Go-cart. I use it long distance to work and sit in traffic both ways.(Rush hour lasts from 7am-10am and 3:00pm-6:30pm) The ride is very comfortable. Friends would always ask us to drive when going out for the evening. So many recalls in the first few months. Some applied to us, most did not, but of course, we had to take it in for them to "check". What a waste of time. Then the tire thing happened. What a nightmare!! Had to take it in four times for the service department to "Check" to see if it was on the recall. They wouldn't tell us over the phone. Finally got that done. The wind noise is irritating. If I wanted to listen to wind noise, I'd stayed in NJ @ the shore or move to Aruba. Took that in another three times for that & still not resolved. The rattle noises should not exist. If you buy new luggage, would you tolerate the wheels squeaking as you go thru the airport? Buy a Lexus, my... The brakes are a whole new issue. I've had nothing but problems. This will be the second time in six months that they need to be resurfaced. And, no, I'm not hard on the brakes! Overall, we were pleased with the vehicle, but the problems are wearing us down to trade it in & quick!!
