Silverado 1500 5.3v8
Strength:
4Wheel steering is great. I leave mine in that mode all the time. Nice ride, plenty of power(5.3v8).
Weakness:
I have not personally spoke to one other 1500 owner who does not complain about the rattling at 60MPH or better. My dealor says its the air-dam I had installed that slammed air against the windshield...Whatever...They don't know! Another thing I noticed is that over 50% OF 2002 Silverados I see have a burnt out driver side daytime running light. Mine still works. But I compaired passinger to driver side and to my amazement, they are loose and shaking on the 3 trucks I have been able to look at. The fog lights and driver side daytime running lights vibrate tremendiously, which probably will result in pre-mature failure. Overall I,m satisfied. I have 14,500 miles now. I do have some morning startup lifter noise and it does quiet within 3 minutes. 4 wheel steering is great. My wife thinks it drives like a sports car. Gas mileage is fair at about 14 city and 18.5 Hwy. The rattling at 80MPH will drive you crazy(no worse than the "wife" though),in any case the sterio is great, so turn it up. |

Silverado 1500 LS ext. cab 4x4 5.3 V-8
Strength:
Good fuel mileage with relation to power. Good ride and handeling.
Weakness:
Drive train. Poor radio for LS model and price of truck. With all the noises concerns about durability. Look up the definition of JUNK in Webster. And it shows a picture of the 2003 Silverado. Truck only used on weekends and with only 3,800 miles. The problems are - Rumble / vibration at 45 mph. Banging shifting from 1-2, 2-1. Clunking when turning. Clunking & clanking from driver side front when braking. Noises intermittent. But at least 2 of the 4 will occur on any given trip. Similar Products Used: 1992 F-150 2000 Isuzu Rodeo |

2500 LS Chevy
Strength:
4-wheel drive and the motor work great.
Weakness:
The front disc brakes are worthless, working on the forth set of pad, right side ears out. Three atempts to fix a dealer couldn't find a problem. Electric windows went out after 3 months, battery post melted out, rear end makes a grumbling sound when turning. Purchased truck new, had many problems with the truck since 25,000 miles, truck now has 79,000 miles. Similar Products Used: I haved owned three other Chevy trucks, never had to replace front break pad before 60,000 miles. |

Silverado LS ext SportSide
Strength:
The truck is nice looking, rides very well and seats my whole family comfortably (6 people). Engine performance very strong, MPG on highway decent. Very little road noise from tires.
Weakness:
Door panel liners are hanging out from door panel (both sides), paint is flaking on door edges, tailgate not lined up properly and chipping paint, pass. rear door rattle, squeaking from rear (haven't found cause yet), hood hinge covers rattle against hood starting at 45mph, dash noise, gas mileage OK on highway, poor in town, A/C not as cold as in my older vehicles, braking SLOW, paint imperfections (runs) along rocker panels, stereo signal poor, noticeable hop in rear on some cornering. I work for GM so I don't pay full price for my vehicles...And it's a good thing because I am very disappointed in this vehicle. I build cars for a living (Pontiac Vibes and Toyota Corollas) and our pride in our construction seems to be a bit more than those in Indiana where this truck is built. I am very picky because of this in my quality control looking at a vehicle. But GM can do alot better I think in design and QC'ing of their vehicles. I think next time I will look at a vehicle alittle MORE carefully the next time I purchase a Chevrolet. My next car WILL BE a Toyota Corolla because I KNOW who built it and what kinda pride was put into making sure the customer gets a NEAR PERFECT vehicle. Strength:
It is a strong truck, have only pulled 2,500lbs. pop-up and it great for that. MPG is great as high as 22 (5.3 V-8)
Weakness:
Power windows fail, either the module or the motor goes out repeatedly every 12 - 18 months. If not one side its the other. Universal joints needed to be replaced at 45K miles. Now some bearing on the drive shaft is squeaking. At 37K miles I was getting a lifter tick, took it to the dealer and they replaced all the lifters and blamed it on lack of oil changes. Up on till that point I used nother but Mobile 1 (best oil you can buy) and changed it every 4K miles, I also used mobile 1 filter (also the best). On the good side, it is a strong truck, have only pulled 2,500lbs. pop-up and it great for that. The failures I have had leaves me with doubts. I have always had a Chevy but never a full size truck. It is strong, the capacity is great (compared to other 1/2 tons), the ride is good. Seating is great along with all the features they offer but with 45K miles and I have doubts about keeping it. Too many failurs. Similar Products Used: None |

Silverado 1500 4.3 V-6
Strength:
Nice looking truck and gets good gas mileage.
Weakness:
Bumpy ride, noise factor, and dangerous in wet conditions - too much RPM for the light weight. The vehicle is dangerous in wet conditions - has done a 180 twice turning from a dry road onto wet pavement. Also, starting from a stop position, tires spin-out. I took it to Goodyear to have the tires checked and was told they had similar complaints on this vehicle. They suggested that it is overpowered for the light body. Needs a lower ratio for the rear end. Have also experienced noise on the right front that they cannot find. Similar Products Used: Have owned two previous GMC trucks and never experienced problem with wet conditions. |

I have a 2000 Silverado Pick Up that until recently has been a great truck. It just passed 79000 miles and started to run much hotter than normal. After having the obvious things checked or changed (thermostat, cleaned radiator coils, flushed cooling system, replaced cooling fan clutch, replaced heat sensor, replaced lower radiator hose) I am out of ideas. The truck does not get hot in any systematic way making it very hard to diagnose. Has anyone had this problem or have any ideas. |

Weakness:
Does not play well with the weaker breed(FORD & Dodge) I have been lucky to be part of a Chevy family. I rode in a '91 Camaro upto last year. The '97 Silverado was beeimg passed down to me,and I was not about to give up that opertunity. Have turned a lot of heads with the 3"4" drop, Flowmaster dual exhaust, and the one color paint scheme. Has been and will always be the best truck out on the road (twin GMC Sierra included). Power Ride Good A/C
Weakness:
None Best vehicle I've ever owned. It has a great ride, it's quiet, good power, good mileage for it's size, and the LS has a great option package. I've taken it on several road trips and thoroughly enjoyed them, the A/C cools the cab off very well in spite of very hot temps. I can't say that about my experience with my past two Dodges.
