"Noise"

2 weeks after purchasing new truck, it started to make a "noise". Stopped by the Dealer and their suggestion was to turn the radio up. "Noise" continued getting louder. Again, back to the dealer they could not hear it-it had rained earlier that day and they said to return when the roads were dry. "Noise" became even louder and a thud developed when the gears were changing. Back to the dealer again, this is the 3rd time is about 2 months. This time they said there was a factory recall and that they would order a part. Two weeks later the "part" is in and a service is scheduled. On the day I went for service, they showed me a letter saying this was "normal" engine noise and there was nothing they could do. They attempted to offer an extended warranty, however the individual who performed that task was out on sick leave. Placed a phone call to GM customer service and after weeks of "research" and letting them know how dissatified I am with the truck, they decided to offer an extended warranty. At this point I have had the truck 6 months and probably will not have it a year. I do not intend to use this dealer again I have purchased 3 new vehicles in 2 years from this Dealer but the service department appears to have trouble being up front and honest. I don't know what I will purchase next but I bet it will not be a GM product.

Great power Great ride Great looks nice truck

Weakness:

None

I have been reading reviews for an hour now. Lot's of people with all kinds of complaints. I guess I've been lucky. I have driven my chevy for 2 years now. ( bought it used) I love it. No problems. The 4.8 has tons of power. It brings a smile to my face every time I put my foot in it. Transmission shifts great. Nice looking truck. I have read complaints about how low the truck sits. This is an asset to me. The handleing is great because of the low center of gravity. I have loaded it very heavy at times (probably overloaded) and it still rides great. The 4.8 is a strong puller, even at max weight. I love my Chevy and will buy another if this one ever wears out. One more thing, I hear alot of people complaining about cheap plastic in the interior. All I have to say is didn't the truck have the plastic in it when you test drove it?????If it really bothered you, why did you buy it?????

Weakness:

small pizza cutter tires from dealer , they really suck , 255/70/15 are the way to go! parts are pricey,

great truck.I put 150,000 plus miles on it when the trans began to slip. got it stuck in the snow once but i put it some where it should not have been.excellant power had a 350 that hauled azz!the truck over all had everything on it but a sunroof. I did all repairs that were minor due to milage and usage .

Strength:

Nice ride when empty. Nice paint. Decent milage.

Weakness:

Suspension way too soft for hauling anything heavier than groceries. Don't even think of going on mountain trails, will bottom out on most bumps. Our minivan does a better job off road. Not made to tow much. Took me for ever to sell it lost about $5K in that deal.

NEVER, NEVER NEVER go to Desert Sun Motors!! Thier repair department lost my truck (on their lot), didn't call me about it and kept it for an extra 2 days to make the repair. They cut the wires to the trailor plug to change a damaged bumper. I never really had any unexpected failures with the truck. I should have researched it more and would not have bought it. I wanted a manual transmission and V8. Who would have thought that combination would only have a 2000lb tow rating. I had difficulty backing my 2000lb trailor. The truck just didn't seem to have the power for it. It would squat with my 400lb motorcycle in the bed. Great ride empty, but not much of a truck. If that is what you are looking for go for it. If you want to haul anything or go even mildly off road get a Ford like I did. Chevy "trucks" are not allowed in my driveway anymore.

Ride nice, handles better. Nice looking exterior

Weakness:

Check engine light.

Loved the truck right from the start. 5.3 extended cab. The trouble is the check engine light keeps coming on. 5 times in less than 4,00 miles. The dealership has changed 2 different sensors and can not stop the problem. Supposely happening with 4 or 5 different trucks purchased there.

i mean, its pretty damn fast for a truck, regardless to all the noises coming from the engine, it seems to be very strong

Weakness:

geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, lemmie think!

ive had this truck for 8 months now, i red al the old silverado reviews b4 i decided to buy it, but now that i have it5, it seems like all the old ones i hear about, seats never stop to rattle, a lot "i mean a lot" of intermittent noises coming from the engine, sqeeking noises from all over the place, electric. problems are non-stop i.e. i had the headlights replaced 4 times "4 TIMES" and i still have one very bright, and the other way dim....water leaks when its raining, mine is a 2 whell drive, its no good on sharp turns at all, as a matter of fact i got pulled over for making tire noises twice!! oh yeah, and the exhaust vibration is a whole different story, what more can i say, never ever again chevy, never...im thinking about putting that little dude peeing on a chevy sign on the back of my truck, what do u think?!

Strength:

Sharp looking truck. Great engine and towing power, rides smooth, has a well thought out interior-minus the abundance of cheap plastic, good sound system. Pewter colored paint with chrome step rails and bed rails really make this truck stand out.

Weakness:

Truck has way too many annoying noises such as the aforementioned transmission problems. Could have been built more solidly. Not worth buying brand new. No 4th door option on the '99. The third door should have been put on the drivers side. Makes more sense. Chevy should have thought that out better. I'm sure most truck owners would agree.

1999 Chevy Silverado 5.3 Ext Cab Z71. Bought vehicle used with 52,000 miles. It looks great and rides well on the highway. Have owned it about 8 months now and have decided that Chevy trucks are not built "Like a Rock." First the truck will not make a sharp turn without the front end feeling like it's locked in 4 wheel drive, which it's not. This problem is basically shredding away the tires and have been to 3 repair shops (2 chevy dealers), 2 alignment shops and no one can fix it. Also the interior squeaks and rattles on the drivers side, the headlights and interior lights appear to flicker when stopped, the fog lights are mounted to the bumber with cheap plastic which cause them to "bounce" all over the place, the truck klunks or "pops" taking off from a dead stop, the transmission klunks from 2nd to 3rd and sometimes 3rd to 4th. However, if you take off really fast, this won't happen. Normal take offs result in the klunking noise. Also had to replace 4x4 switch, but the used car dealer payed for that. Granted I bought this vehicle used, but most of my problems appear to be shared with many, many others. Friend purchased a 2002 brand new and he hates it. Many of the same problems I have apparently still exist now and I'm sure the 2003's are no different.
