Strength:
Fair ride Good looks good towing capacity
Weakness:
Clunks in driveline Standard 4.8 litre engine weak. Several rattles I just today took my brand new 2003 "Clunkrolet" Silverado with 7000 miles on it in to the dealer for the second time for the infamous clunking problem. The first time they used the "magical special grease" which lasted about a week before the clunking returned. The standard response is it's "operating to the manufacturers specs, they all do that and it's normal." Normal my a$$. Fords and Dodges don't go clunking around the roads like my Silverado does. It's an obvious engineering problem. I read where one fix was a nickel plated slip yoke and I mentioned that to the service guy today and he said the 03's already had those on them. Well, then that wasn't a fix was it? I also read where they were replacing the drive shafts. Anyway, one way or another, I want the problem resolved. I'm waiting on the dealers call as I write this to see what they are going to say. I suspect I already know their response. Someone mentioned lemon law. That might be a start. Or maybe a complaint with the Feds. I know for sure I will be calling GM's complaint line. We have been a GM family for 30 plus years. My wife drives a 2003 Buick. But I swear that after paying $32,000 for a vehicle with such a glaring problem and getting an "it's normal" excuse from GM I will sell the "clunker" and go with the 2004 Ford truck. GM's Service Bulletin states: "While some owners may find the clunk noise objectionable, this will not adversely affect durability or performance." They're damn right, I FIND IT "OBJECTIONABLE". My advise to someone thinking about a Chevy/GMC truck is to think again. |

Chevy Silverado Z71 Ex Cab
Strength:
Plenty of power/passsing & pulling Looks good Lots of room.
Weakness:
too many to list, major ones are: clunking noises and wind leaks, Drivers side door leaks water, headlights and driving lights burned out, Radio LED half on half off and whats up with this piston slap that GM calls normal????? enough said Bought with 80,000 miles now has 87,000. Truck has 5.3ltr V8 with tow package. Truck is used primarily for work but also purchased to pull 26' Travel Trailer. I have read other reviews and have almost all the same problems as everyone else, wind noise, Clunking noises from transmission and drive shaft, brakes feel funny at times, etc, etc, etc. Read the other reviews for list of other problems. Although none major (yet) still problems. I still haven't made my mind up yet if I am happy with the truck or not. Similar Products Used: 1993 Chevy Silverado 2wd/5.7ltr 1994 Ford F150 XLT 2wd/351 |

Grand Prix GT Coupe
Strength:
looked great good handling comfortable & affordable decent gas mileage(if you kept your foot out of it)
Weakness:
Radio/Steering controls went out Stereo speaker problems/crackle auto dim rearview mirror broken head lights retained moisture brakes acted funny in wet conditions Driver side power window motor replaced buttons broke on dash controls DEPRECIATION!!!!!! I purchased the car used in 1999 with 29,000 miles. Drove daily with no major mechanical problems. Lots of lights and buttons to play with. Stereo jammed until speakers and steering wheel controls went out. It had a mind of its own at times turning sound up and down on its own. The longer I had it the more little expensive things started to break. Just traded it with 87,000 miles for a 2004 Grand Prix GT1. Crappy trade-in value but decent car thats why I purchased another. Chevy Silverado Z71 EXT. CAB
Strength:
Power, comfort, sound system, smooth ride, built in protec bed liner, memory seats, and much more.
Weakness:
fuel economy is a concern for some but remember it is a truck not a Toyota. The best vehicle I have ever owned. Great truck in all weather conditions, and very comfortable over long drives. Great Bose sound system and very user friendly cabin. I would not consider another pickup after driving this one. There is plenty of power and it is very smooth off road as well as on the highway. Protec liner is great as is all the latest features like heated leather seats, power everything, power folding heated mirrors, and so on. Similar Products Used: Tahoe, F 150 |

Silverado 1500 (extended cab)
Strength:
Power and acceleration are outstanding for the smaller V-8 (4.8). Handles well around turns. Good braking for such a heavy and large truck. Plenty of passenger room front and back.
Weakness:
Only weakness I found is that the parking brake is a little to high up. When I drive my knee hits the pedal if I lean my leg out. But other than that I Love my truck! Best truck I have driven yet. I was a Ford man, but after driving this machine, I am now a Chevy man. Love the size of the X-tra Cab, bigger than the F-150. Has great power and ecceleration (3.8 V8 auto). Happy with all of the features and comforts; auto dimming rearview mirror and driver side mirror. Similar Products Used: Ford F-150 Dodge Ram 1500 |

more power than i'll ever need! Very comfortable! EASE OF MAINTENANCE!!! Ergonomics inside and out
Weakness:
electronics(a/c switches) won't activate every once in a great while if its been sitting in the sun for a while.(buy a sunshade- problem solved) not me, but i read MANY reviews where people had problems with chevy not honoring their warranty!DON'T BELIEVE THE SALESMAN -DUH!! I like my truck! There's a big difference between the 1/2 ton and the 3/4 ton. I did a lot of homework before buying my 3/4 ton truck and there are a lot of people dissatisfied with there 1/2 tons. In my "own opinion" i think the componets don't match up well on the 1/2 tons. I noticed a lot of people complaining about the 1/2 tons drivetrains noises and many had failures within there respective warranties. But i also noticed that the ones with failures/noises had simply not followed the owners manuals instructions. Don't get me wrong, i doub't all of them did but i noticed that many people were driving 70mph in 4wd, not following break-in procedures, etc.. The one thing would recommend is whatever vehicle you buy immediately take it home and do complete inspection on it!If you are unsure what all to do take it to some "respectable" (which is another story entirely) auto mech. and have them do a 100 whatever point inspection on it. I'll bet you'll be surprised what the manufacturers assembly plant didn't do while your vehicle was on the assembly line.
